Xenomorphine

The movie makes references to "small arms fire", but not whether it was fired by pulse rifles or not. It's doubtful a colony of that size would need anything approaching that firepower. More like shotguns and such as standard, to double as both riot and pest control, if ever need be.

The "seismic survey charges" indicate that they were having to MacGyver together whatever they could.

It's quite possible that they didn't clearly know what was going on until very near the end, not having a clue that a certain snake-like parasite had grow to the size of something capable of quickly, stealthily abducting people at its leisure.

There should be a "hull integrity" meter that goes down throughout the whole game as the station slowly gets turned into swiss cheese by all the alien blood.  Hell, maybe one of the items you need to acquire is a space suit à la Dead Space so you can access all the sections that are exposed to vacuum.

The Novelization expressly states it's Pulse Rifles. Apone says so :).

The film however, doesn't.

True enough, but then I was under the impression we all took the Novelizations as gospel ^^

Some might but not "all".

At some point, Weyland Yutani drugs and captures you for questioning. You need to endure a sequence of torture, before being subsequently rescued. If this happened, you could be introduced to the fake-weyland earlier on, and he would have made a more interesting antagonist.

After the ending, where Bishop downloaded all of the information, Winter would go to bunk and get some shut eye. Some real shut eye. Some sleep that didn't involve puking and feeling like the worst hangover in the history of mankind.

All of the other marines would likely be busy, possibly still debriefing. But you had seen some of the worst shit down there, the Captain let you go early. You were still feeling sick from Weyland Yutani poisoning you.

After nearly vomiting in a bucket you brought with you, you lay down in your bunk. The lighting is dim, and everything is quiet. Letting out a groan, you close your eyes. For a few seconds, everything is silent...you start to relax. As Winter says "Finally...a break..." the player begins expecting the credits to begin rolling. But after ten seconds, a voice speaks. A familiar one. "My my, all alone are we?" Snapping your eyes open, Bishop places his hand down to your mouth, pinning you down with his Android strength.

"Did you really think that a meager Military model could just...download, my personality and memory files, with no repercussions?" he said, raising an eyebrow but otherwise giving you an emotionless stare. Some spittle would spurt from Bishop's fingers as you gagged. "Ah, I see it is nearly complete..." he would say, eyes trailing down to your chest. As you spasmed, your eyes would jolt upwards, and you would briefly remember how the Raven had captured and cocooned you. With this, you would realize the real reason you were sick. With a muffled groan, blood would sputter from your chest, but despite your attempts Bishop kept you restrained. "Ah...Winter, she's beautiful..." he would say, drawing his hands away. Your eyes would slowly trail down to your chest, a newly-born Xenomorph hissing as it coiled in the gore. The player would easily see that this Chestburster seemed to have a crown, or crest of some sort. A Queen. As Bishop would scoop her into a containment unit, he would look down at you with a sneer. "Weyland Yutani thanks you, for your cooperation. You are dismissed, Winter..."

Fade to black. Roll credits.

It's a headache trying to argue anything when we don't all have the same 'canon'. We need one of the mods to become the canon lawyer :D

It's quoted as such when convenient  but novelizations can go all over the place. A lot of the time, they reveal more details about the screenplay and such that aren't filmed, but this leaves the canon issue quite hazy.

Since the colony had no ship, no way to leave the planet, it had to have had some sort of sheriff, magistrate, or head security officer. With the size of the population, at least a few officers would be necessary. Thinking of 'Outland' but with far fewer (and probably more stable) residents, and no off-world traffic to speak of.

The inability of the colony to do much is troubling... for pete's sake is there no danger of rival nations? Pirates? Thieves? Etc etc...

How could a colony last at all with no early warning and 3 weeks before rescue arrives? The CM: Tech Manual even talks about how thin the USCM are stretched, with some areas not being patrolled for long periods. This is as canon as the novelizations, probably less if that's possible, but it's easy to believe that the galaxy is a bit harsh. What if some pirates or bandits or whatever just showed up to ransack the hell out of Hadleys? They sure as hell couldn't defend themselves well, and rescue would still be 3 weeks out. You're screwed.

They had to have had some rifles, at least. Probably had an arms locker in the security station or something, and maybe a 'militia' of sorts with protocols dealing with hostile confrontations (of all kinds.)

In this instance I don't imagine the colonists would have pulse rifles.  Just the small arms (pistols, shotguns) mentioned in the dialogue.

I like to treat the books as gospel, they've got a lot of interesting expansions that help parts of the films make a bit better sense in places, or just some interesting thought provoking pieces.

Not that it really matters, because neither of us can prove the other right or wrong. C'est la vie.

You ASSUME they didn't have... Maybe it was used to evacuate the last few survivors... We were never said they did, but also we were never said they didn't.... SO, what they DIDN'T say, can be used without CANON troubles... Therefore, yes, there could have been ships, we just never got to see them... The same thing with Hadley's Bar and the rest of the complex... We mainly stick around Operations and Med Lab... WHat about the rest of the colony?  LOTS of places to go exploring...  ;)

Oh, my mistake. I seem to have attempted to post a response to a topic that has been completely derailed.

Carry on.

I think you'll have some pissed off players if you end it like that.
