What do you think they mean by those?

I'm guessing by shocks they mean walking through a silent, pitch black corridor while you listen to your motion tracker come to life and an Alien jumps out at you. Suprises on the other hand could mean anything; new life cycle stages, new hybrids, Jockeys, Predators (I hope to God not) heck we might even fight along side Ripley!  :P

Having Ripley in the game would screw up the continuity pretty heavily, I personally wouldn't like to see it.

As far as shocks & surprises, it more than likely relates to scares & plot twists.

They've already stated multiple time they're not going to f**k with the system, and they don't have the RIGHTS to Preds. IF there is anything "shocking" about the story it will likely be with the jockeys if anything at all. This is Gearbox not the BS.

Ripley's dead.

I thought this was set during or after Aliens:-\

From what I remember, it's set some time around Alien 3.

I readed that the game will be between Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection, I think Ripley is dead.

It would be interesting if there were somehow flashbacks in the game, where you could play as one of the marines in a battle from the movie ALIENS, either Hicks or Vasquez or whoever.... of course the flashbacks would all have to end in accordance to the movies. That way, you could fight alongside Ripley, and still stick with the post-Ripley story.  Of course, no one in the game could personally have the flashback, since everyone in ALIENS will be dead at that point   ;D
.... but it could be worked in somehow.

Alien3 takes place about a week or so after Aliens.

If the Sulaco continued back to Earth in hyperspace it would've arrived about two weeks later.  If - as Alien3 suggests - it dropped out of hyperspace during the fire it could be difficult to find unless it's navigation beacon is still working in which case it'd be simple to find.

Given the game takes place two years later I think we can deduce what happened, though the presence of Aliens onboard lends credence to the premise that others found the Sulaco first, and the transponder may have been damaged or shut off for "dark salvage".

How do you know it's 2 years later?

They prolly said so.

Something that just occurred to me though - why aren't the hypersleep chambers in the promo pics burned out?

Because it's another Conestoga class ship?
Or it's just another hypersleep chamber on the Sulaco?

Can you read what I sent you in the Caption PL? I don't remember how clear it came out. It may be another class, or it may be the other bay not jettisoned. (Which is far more likely if you read the caption text) Quite frankly it depends on how big the fire was. Regardless the ship was capable of holding many more than it had. and the devs are rather clear that the story begins on the Sulaco. The Alpha pics seem to show a colony setting as well, so it's possible some of the salvagers or WY managed to get eggs or hosts off the ship and take them somewhere wherein hilarity ensues.
