Officially a Resurrection Then? (Read 9,150 times)

The Necronoir

Before the old incarnation of Aliens: Colonial Marines was cancelled years ago much emphasis was placed on the fact that the single-player campaign would be taking place between Aliens and Alien 3, beginning on the Sulaco and bridging the gap between the two movies as the USCMC sent in a squad to figure out what happened to LV-426 and the previous team. With this latest batch of screenshots it looks like this might actually be a resurrection of that original concept.

If you look at this scan (graciously provided by boythatkills) it clearly states that "Even though Ripley's sleeping chamber was jettisoned, there are others aboard the Sulaco that your team will explore". Proof positive as far as I'm concerned.

Nope. Not the same game, none of the same people, and very different storyline after you get off the Sulaco.

So according to the story then, there were other marines on the Sulaco?  Hmm, then why did they not contact them to send out a rescue party instead of manually piloting the dropship down?..

I don't think that's what they're saying.  They're saying they intercept the Sulaco and investigate.

How can you be so sure? The way Fox handles its licensing all work done on the old A:CM game would have reverted to them when the project was cancelled. It was also mentioned by the developers of Predator: CJ that Fox maintains a 'lore book' of all things Alien and Predator that companies have access to when working on new projects. As such I think it's more than likely that Gearbox received the prior concept work done on CM and have been developing it further in their own direction.

Game Informer article said so.

A for Fox's 'bible' it's extremely loose in terms of preserving continuity.

Promise... new game from scratch. The only relationship between the two is the name was just perfect for both titles, and we both wanted to explore the Sulaco after the events of Aliens/Alien 3. But that's due to it being a really great idea and not due to any intentional revival of the original project.

It's not an association we're upset to have since it's a game that we wish we could have played! But we certainly expect this one to replace the older one in people's minds (and search engines!) soon. :D

Also this story takes place AFTER Alien 3, not between.

It was this quote that confused me:

"Even though Ripley's sleeping chamber was jettisoned, there are others aboard the Sulaco that your team will explore"

Why is that confusing? Look at the size and layout of the ship. The entire team fit in one dropship, but there were two onboard. Subtle hint?

I don`t think so that there were two on board. I think that you will enter Sulaco from outside. Any one knows if there is a PC version planed?

Yes, the game is being developed for the PC as well.

As far as the comments about the cryo-tubes, I honestly don't see what there is to be confused about. All it seems to refer to is that you will explore areas of the Sulaco containing cryo-chambers.

For PC too? Great! And about Sulaco, it is rather logical that after A3 there was no liveing person on board, so investigation team must enter from outside.

Well if you read around I'm sure you'll find some transcripts of the article. I'm quite sure they said it's new marines sent to investigate. Wierder even said so.

Hint to what?  There were four onboard (Hicks, Ripley, Newt and Bishop) and they all got jettisoned.  There should be no one aboard. Unless there was some crew we never heard about.

Some marines from outside may have boarded the ship, to investigate.  It still doesn't explain that quote.
