The only thing I remember about the 80's was getting my first NES. Which set me down a path of unproductivity FOR LIFE.
Even though I was five by the time 1990 grew around that was the era I did most of my growing up in. That said the early 90's were pretty similar to the late eighties, as far as I can remember. We were still watching 80's movies because they were just now being released on VHS.
Man, I missed out on a great era, time to hijack Doc's Dolorean and head to the 80's. ;) :D

I can agree with that because Hanna-Barbara made great toons in the 80s, too! 8)
I do owe my love of cartoons to the 1960s as well. Having been born in '65, I grew up on reruns of the older cartoons from the '60s and earlier. By the mid-'70s, I was entering my teens and felt I was too old for cartoons and started focusing more on motorcycles, girls, sports, girls, music, girls, and something else. Oh, yeah: girls.
But mostly bbws.
I'm a 90s kid and proud of it. That was the best time to be growing up IMO because we witnessed a lot come and go in 10 years. We saw the dominance and fall of VHS to DVD, the flop known as mini-disc players, the invention of MP3 players along with the rise and fall of portable CD players, the rise of LCD and touch-panel screens, the evolution of the cellphone, the invention of the internet (and along with it, kids discovering internet porn!), the decline of Saturday morning cartoons, the grunge movement, the invention of CG in movies...
What a time 8)
You think it was the best time because that's the only one you grew up in.
1880s kids saw the invention of the motion picture. 1900s kids heard of the first flight and got to watch it rapidly revolutionize the planet. 20s kids heard sound in movies for the first time and 30s kids saw colour on the big screen, the Great Depression, and the start of World War II. 40s kids witnessed the birth of the atomic age. 60s kids saw a man land on the moon for the first time. 80s kids, not 90s kids, saw the birth of the Internet and the invention of CG in movies. LCD and touch-panel screens didn't really take off until the 2000s.
90s kids got shitty pop music and flouro-coloured everything. I'm as nostalgic about the decade as the next person who grew up in it, but saying it was the best time to grow up because of DVDs and the flash-in-the-pan history of the Walkman is pretty silly :P

I got to see all that, plus the spread of color TV (I remember my dad bitching about buying a color set and some of the shows were in B&W), I witnessed most of the Apollo missions (I got to see all of the moon landings), I owned a Pong game, I owned the classic Commodore 64 and used it to hook up to Bulletin Board Systems. I've seen the rise and fall of Disco (gak!), the rise of Punk, the battle between VHS and Betamax... shit, just go to Wikipedia, type in "1968" and start reading forward.

OK. Let's compare.
1970's Pros: Real Muscle Cars, Movies (Alien, Star Wars, Heavy Metal, Jaws, The Exorcist, Rocky, Superman), TV (Charlie's Angels, I Dream of Jeannie, CHiPs, Kung Fu, 3's Company), Rocky Horror, Laser Disc, Mini Skirts, Afro's, Vans, UFO's, KISS, Alice Cooper, Soul Train, Led Zepplin, VW Bug, Tie Dye, Arcades, Flower Power, Soul Music, Rock-N-Roll, Stephan King, Roller Skates (made popular).
1970's Cons: Disco, Muttin Chops, Bell Bottoms, Biker Gangs, Partridge Family, Left Over Hippies, Leisure Suits.
1980's Pros: The Space Shuttle, The Internet, Movies (Predator, Terminator, The Shining, Ghost Busters, Gremlins, Tron, Nightmare on Elm St), TV (Alf, Robotech, The A Team, Dukes of Hazzard, Knight Rider, Golden Girls, V), Ozzy Osborne/Randy Rhoads, Cell Phones, Walkman, Hair Bands, MTV, Star Search, VHS, *69, Personal Computers, Solid Gold, Public Service Announcements (Draggin Lady, Brain on Drugs, etc.) and the "Boom Box."
1980's Cons: Turned Up Collars, Compact Cars, Mullets, The Cold War, Men's Short Shorts, AIDS, Rap Music.
Feel free to add what has been left off :D They seem to be similar in pro's and con's from this perspective.
1970s pros: Genesis still had Peter Gabriel in the band, Pink Floyd's height of music making, the powerstache, Tangerine Dream, F-in Richard Pryor!
1970s cons: Disco (re-added for emphasis ;D )
1980's pros: Tears For Fears, Luther Vandross, ALIENS, The Wall (the film had a better soundtrack than the actual album)
1980's cons: CRACK COCAINE (never done it, never will)
DEM MULLETS.
I always make fun of my dad for disco but he swears it was fun time and that a person shouldn't knock it until they try it.
Zounds like crak cokaine talks to me...
f**k all of you, disco rules.

1980's Cons: Turned Up Collars, Compact Cars, Mullets, The Cold War, Men's Short Shorts, AIDS, Rap Music.
Feel free to add what has been left off :D They seem to be similar in pro's and con's from this perspective.
Aw come on. Back then, rap music was respectable unlike the generic crap you hear today.

At least it's not that hybrid of Rap and Country in one. My brother listens to it and it's the worst f**king noise ever in the history of organic life.

Can you give me an example? Also, I can assure you, there is most likely a worse genre.

I'll get back to you on that.
What genre you have in mind?
It was like this hybrid shit of screamo, rap, and pop all into one. Let me find it.
Everything from this band.

Rap may of been a poor choice of words on my part, but it's in that general direction. I just have to ask for a title or two when I get the chance.
Stopped at 20 seconds 1st video, not bothering with the second. Yea that's probably worse actually.

Obviously this is the only type of shit I listen to.
I like some rap but now its gotten pretty craptacular. Used to listen to Nappy Roots, the Roots, Outkast, and a few others but haven't bought anything by any of them for a minute. I'm not sure if Outkast even makes music anymore.
I like most genres of rock.

Growing up in the 80s must've been pretty sweet, especially for metal heads and seeing the coming of thrash and speed metal.
