Where are they today? ;D
Busy doing VFX work I expect.
They seem to have move past trying to direct movies and are only into special effects now. If only Paul Anderson had given up as well...
Funnily enough I stayed behind to watch the credits for The Predator last night and I saw Hydraulix credited as working on effects for it. There was Colin's name as a VFX supervisor.
The Predator ship interiors and hologram/UI graphics were quite AvP: R like.

Which explains a lot. Didn't care for that at all.
I don't know if they deserve the crap they get, yes they made a bad movie, two actually and they do seem to have preferences but originally they were going to try to do Requiem in space before that was shot down, they also had a reduced budget. And lets be honest, they didn't write the script (As far as I know). There might have also been some interference as well.
Although, I remember someone on set, either the brothers or someone else telling another crew member to "shut the f*** up" when they mentioned the lack of lighting.
There were just doing a job that they shouldn't have been IMO.
Hydraulx has shut down two of its three studios. Only source I can find at the moment is this Reddit thread:

Apparently the company was dodgy as hell to work for and nobody has a nice thing to say about it.
And let us not forget the incredibly weird and creepy treatment of pregnant women in both of their feature films.
So, Hydraulx shouldn't have been doing any jobs.

I recall reading in a Golden Raspberries Award nominee that SKYLINE (2010) was up for a Razzie. They shamed Hydraulx for using non union CGI artists to create the $10 Million micro-budget SKYLINE film* (*Hydraulx way of showing off spectacle on a thrift budget).
Despite the controversy over working conditions; as a consumer I can definitely say I liked their work for VFX on many good titles.
TERMINATOR 3- RISE OF THE MACHINES, 300, The Avengers (Marvel film), X-Men the list is endless.
Oh and Aliens Vs Predator-Requiem and THE PREDATOR.

Considering Liam O Donnell did an AVP-GALAXY podcast to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of AVP-R while promoting his direct to Blu-Ray/DVD BEYOND SKYLINE it would be interesting to see why this VFX company went off a cliff.
If even half of what these people are saying is true - mismanagement.
One comment about "the bad boys of VFX" was particularly interesting. Never heard that about them before.
EDIT
Jesus Christ
QuoteIf you know how to kiss ass, you will be the best employee there. If you are unhappy with your supervisor and you complain to your higher ups, nothing will happen because the said supervisor is best friends with one of the brothers. If you go complain about the forced overtime, you would be fired. If you don't agree to the micro management of your supervisor, you are done. Some supervisors in some departments hire only girls because they are easier to control.
QuoteAdding here one brother was worse than the other in terms of berating. Quite a few leads also took pleasure in this and much yelling.
QuoteThe supervisors were all but outright telling me the place was a shithole as I was sitting there.

No direct deposit, only hard checks.
They asked me what I heard about the owners. When I spouted some biographical shit I knew about them they stopped me and asked what I really heard about them, and proceeded to explain how difficult they were.
All single monitors, and they still used mental ray. Not a huge thing in its own right, but spoke to their cheapness and that they didn't want to invest in technology.
... not surprised. Are any of you?
A new perspective on this causes AVPR to be even worse, and I didn't know that was possible.
Because now I know these guys are truly worthless.
Yea watching the behind the scenes did show them in that light.

Not knowing the ins and outs of the effects industry - yeah I kinda am.
It's a lot more shady than I would've thought. I get it's show business and people often get rooted around - but not paying staff is more than that.
I'm not surprised to hear a VFX studio was run poorly, but their particular brand of mismanagement is hardly normal.
gotta go
BACK TO THE ROOTS
So HARDCORE you'll go IMPOTENT, or your money back.
Here fo' th' GRITTY.
Weren't they on here at one point? I remember someone on here saying that got angry with some of the fans here.
One of them is on this very page as it happens... ;D
Hey I actually dig AVPr but we all have alibi's on this page.

Colin had an account... well he still have, he just haven't used in 10 years. You never saw those Colin vs Sil debates?
I can't remember, I don't think so. Was it bad?
Not with Sil if I remember. You can still see the posts on the AVPR speculation archive. Here is Colin: https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=257.
I wish Colin would have listened more to the people here, the movie would have a better reception if he had changed even a few things while there was still time.
I signed up in 2011... oh boy I must have missed some great stuff during those avp years.
I was actually looking at top posters the other day and more than half are banned, so definitely missed something.
Whether it was pleasant or not is another story.

His writing style is more single sentence tweets and shut-downs than actually engaging with AVP-GALAXY posters there.
I skimmed and yes it is true movie making is way harder than people realize. Do a community College (USA) or Level 3 course in Media and Video Production to see how tedious and meticulous it can be. This gets lost when you have one idea but your staff on set have others.
As I keep saying just watch "the making of ALIEN 3" (the 2003 DVD) to see what a clusterf**k movie making can be.
It just seems to dog the ALIEN series more than any other movie franchise. Quite frustrating really.

I think there were several attempted good old fashion coops that were squashed to death through nuclear means. The last one and only one I witnessed was more of a whimper. A few casualties and I'm pretty sure one death. It's not even funny how many depressed folks we have here.
Sometimes "coops" can be an appropriate response, depending upon the circumstances.
But I doubt anyone here did anything really to warrant it, as sexism, racism and the-like clearly aren't tolerated on AVPG.
The one I saw wasn't anything like that and it was explained to me, just because you talk a lot dosen't mean you get to dictate policy on the site. In the end several other sites were born. Pretty boring actually.
Explained to you by who?
The people who did the banning? Not to say they're wrong, but that's a biased narrative.
Actually from the side that got banned. :P Then in 3rd person by the other side; as in reading it on the forum. For some reason I do save the rants, if possible. It's amazing how people get overzealous about things as silly as make believe entertainment.
Then again that's probably why I can like something like AVPr, while others will get ill over it.
I can't tolerate "AVPR" so, I understand.
