whether we would go back to save the cat ?
Nobody would do that if an alien was actually present and we didn't know where it was.
and no one would stand in front of the wall vagina and look at it while the bastard inside prepares to kill.

That's just a horrible situation that happened to Ripley, but I'm sure many would go back for their cat. That's like a family member.

If I didn't know where the Alien was on a great big ship, I'd try and save the cat.  If the Alien is between me and the cat on a small ship - sorry puss, you're on your own.

If there's easily avoidable thing stuck on the wall between me and the cat - I would easily avoid it and get the cat.
