So I recently bought the book and I know you cannie find it anywhere online so I figured I'd throw the fandom a bone and type it up on my laptop chapter by chapter till it's done but I also thought about doing it as an audio book doing a chapter at a time, only thing is I'm Scottish and while I don't have that thick an accent some might have trouble understanding me but I also know some prefer audio books, anyone got a preferred one over the other or would you like both I'm a bit of an invalid so it makes no difference to me
While I think copying out chapter by chapter is a nice idea, you might find yourself falling foul of copyright law.
An audiobook recording might not trigger the same reaction, though. You could do it as a series on YouTube.
Audiobook

Audiobook. There are multiple fan readings of old Alien novels that haven't triggered the copyright law, so that might be the best option.
Please, and thank you so much for even considering this!
This needs to be released in an omnibus with the other DH novels.
I got a physical copy for something like 70 EUR and loved it, although the book broke apart later.

Well what I might end up doing if people want it that way I'll probably type it up anyway to make it easier for me to read out loud so there's always that for others

No worries my dude been wanting them to reprint it for years and it never happened so when I got it and about 7 other books I figured I could help out folks in the same boat, wasn't bloody cheap but it was a good deal lol

I hear you man I got mine for £110 but it came with 7 other predator books so once scs is done I'll probably do flash and blood and forever midnight and hopefully at some point turnabout, I'd love them to do that but it's weird how they did so little printing of the older books
If you scan the pages, or even just take decent photos of them, the text can be automatically transcribed into digital text pretty easily. iPhones can do it internally.
I personally would be eternally grateful if you did either of what you are proposing. Really want to read the book but it is silly money.
Question: I own a PDF version of Predator: South China Sea due to it being unavailable in my country and the cost to acquire it is... extremely unfair and expensive.
Am I able to share it?
I don't know the legal ramifications since the licensed publisher no longer exists, and as mentioned above, people have circumvented copyright issues before.
We'll allow it.

Good man 🤘 fandoms best when it comes together
Thank you! ;D
I also have the other 3 borderline-unobtainable Predator novels (Forever Midnight, Flesh and Blood, and Turnabout) in PDF.
I'd be more than willing to share them too but I don't want to push my luck.
I'd love Turnabout if you're open to sending via DM.
Own Forever Midnight, still not read it.
I'd be interested in them. Still searching online for them at a reasonable price.
I got Jeff VanderMeer to acknowledge my existence on Twitter fairly recently when I told him he wrote the best Predator novel ever written.
I also asked him if he'd ever consider writing an Alien book, and he said yeah "if he came up with a good idea".
Keeping the dream alive!
I also thought that South China Sea was Alex White level quality, but so was Turnabout.
The rise in quality from Forever Midnight is quite amazing, while Flesh and Blood is a very good novel too.
Still remember when I found out everyone was raving about this, I immediately went to get it, even being 2 years late it was more than worth the price. :P

Anyone knows why Titan didn't republished DH Press Predator novels in omnibus, just how they did with Bantam ones? Licensing problems? I mean it's a shame, everyone praises South China Sea or Turnabout, but it's almost impossible to get them now. Also it would be cool if Titan published some new Predator novels, If it Bleeds was superb, and I'm yet to read Eyes of the Demon, but some single, longer stories would be good. Especially when they do such a great job with Aliens noveld. Yeah, they had some stinkers and middling ones recently, but overall, they have great Catalogue of books.

No one knows for certain, but it is strongly believed to be licensing problems... It might have been the case that Titan only purchased the rights to DH Press' Alien novels, but passed on their Predator ones.
I am a bit burned out by the Predator Anthology books and would love to see something like this get released again. Even if it's just a re-release.
This is amazing. Thank you
Just finished reading this for the first time. Thank you
@Retropocalypse for the upload and
@Corporal Hicks for sanctioning it!
By far the best Predator novel I've read. So many interesting elements and little features about the Predator, it's habits and weaponry. Lots of compelling characters also.
The ring that instantly turns prey into skeletons, ingenious! And the depth and number of descriptions of previous hunts throughout the universe, too.
Only criticism I'd possibly have is a thing I find any time a written piece pits a Predator against massed numbers of enemies, it kind of just becomes a repetitive torrent of endless kills that lose their effect after a while, but this only lasts a few pages.
Overall, great book that really shows the Predator as a truly vicious, terrifying, malevolent force. Definitely one to be revisited again and again.
Finally got around to this a few days ago. It's instantly in my top 5 bits of Predator media, including the films.
Damn right, CB. Glad to hear it's still loved.
I read this about 4 years ago and still think about it, a lot.
Amazing book bulging with energy.
Somehow, I missed that Dutch reference though.

From Xenopedia:
Although never identified in the story, author Jeff VanderMeer has confirmed (or at least strongly implied) that Onyx is Dutch from Predator
I found it pretty obvious tbh.

It's not subtle at all, but it's fair enough to have forgotten it in the face of all the other strong imagery.
Does the Onyx background fit with the newer "Old Dutch" lore from Predator: Hunting Grounds?
Okay, I finally read it, thanks to upload from
@Retropocalypse, so thank You for that. I had to force myself a little to read it in digital form, because I can't stand not having physical book in my hands, but it was only way for me to read this, so be it. I enjoyed it a lot, though I wouldn't rate it 10/10. It got its problems. More weird Elements didn't click for me, all those descriptions of past Predator's hunts, they were just too outlandish and fantasy-like for a Predator lore in my opinion. Also what's the point of bacteria Turning Nikolai into living dust? I dig the idea of Predator bringing some extraterrestial disease from space, but again, it became just to weird for a Predator story for my taste, and it wasn't even necessary or important for the plot or anything. Maybe that's the reason why whole Temple battle, though interesting, was dragging on a little. Also Maxime overstayed his welcome, he was just doing nothing in the last Third of the book. But those problems aside, rest of the novel is great. I love the idea of placing the action on illeagl hunting resort on island. It was perfect setting for Predator's hunt. I love how so many characters with distinct personalities and goals were put in it and how their arcs are converged with each other towards the end. And finally I love the Predator in this. He's Seasoned hunter with a lot of advanced gear and Experience. Also he is a total bastard with his mind games and pshyhological warfare. Overall great read, I'm glad i read it, especially that there is too little Predator novels on the market right now. Titan should Fix it, especially when they seem to lost some steam with Aliens books.
The author definitely brings his own gimmicks to the story (things like the transformation you mention), and you're right it's a bit out of place in a predator tale. I was alright with it because I like similar shit from the author and it's at least an interesting additional take about alien infections.
I'm not sure what you mean by "fix it", the book probably couldn't and definitely shouldn't get edited or rewritten, but I'd love for it to get another print run and get better known.
If you're a fireteam, you wouldnt want to bump into this particular Predator
Requiem tried to portray how an elite Predator would operate but stumbled in the execution, so the aliens often came across as weak/incompetent
The South China Sea Predator has the tactical wits and skillset of a veteran hunter/killing-machine...one of the most formidable portrayals out there

I also like weird cosmic stuff like it, just not in Predator or Alien stories, that are more down to earth. Not to say that there can't be any weird stuff in them, I just think that in South China Sea it went a bit too far, especially when it wasn't even so important to the story, so it felt like throwing random stuff at reader. I ultimately like black goo in Alien stories for example, but when it is used specifficly to mutating other creatures, without whole creating new ecosystems and life crap.
And I was talking about not being much Predator novels on the market right now, nnd by "fixing it" I meant that Titan should start publishing New Predator stories. They are just focusing on Alien and it got stale a little, but we don't see any Predaror novels, and for me it just felt really good reading one, it would feel that way evem if it wasn't so good.

First ever predator or alien novel I'm reading. Halfway through, it's really good so far.
It gets a lot weirder but I don't feel the quality itself dips at all.
This book should at least get some mentions in other Predator EU lore, a NECA figure, or anything.
It's a bit as if it doesn't exists, and for a lot of people, it doesn't.
This predator is clearly one I would love to see on screen even.
I'm half way through South China Sea. Excellent.
I'm pretty surprised that
Spoiler
only two main characters had died when I'm way past half the book.
Regardless, it has succeeded in staying really engaging.
I finished it. Very good and some unexpected things happen in the last few chapters.
I can't wait. I actually read it really slowly, I don't want it to be over lol.
For anyone finishing this, check out Predator: Turnabout next.

Its a rare expensive book that doesnt get printed anymore and wasnt translated into other languages so. Funny how the best predator novel is barely known. Like I wouldnt be surprised if I was the only brazillian that has a physical copy of this here. Not many fans willing to pay that much for an old novel, at least I got it before the value of my currency went to shit.

Damn you got the best right away, no predator character in the others will compare to this one's.
I wonder how many prints this book got in total?
I would rate Turnabout slightly higher than South China Sea, its a bit more tight story and more personal.

Turna is a good written novel I just don't like the guy just one shooting multiple predators, most are cannon fodder, the preds are boring there.

Same, both characters and predator are way better than we usually get. SCS is like the Predator 3 for me.
True, Turnabout is a not a Predator-side story.
I think it has one page from the Predator's POV, that is a sort of "what if", or what the main characters think they would be seeing. Even mentioning a few Predator names, if I'm not mistaken.
However, Flesh and Blood is also a great DH Press novel that has a lot of good Predator POV stuff.
Spoiler
Colqhoun and Tau down. Nikolai too, Marikova supposedly ?
This book is really good at suspens.
Just to update on this seeing as I haven't I do still intend to do the audiobook, that being said I've been homeless for a good few months and almost all my stuff is in storage for obvious reason,by homeless I mean no home of my own and not on the streets and hopefully that will change soon, flesh and blood and forever midnight will come after too if people can understand my accent well enough
I wish you the best man.
Spoiler
f**king Nikolai is unkillable lol
I loved the weird chapter how the villain started to decorate the lodge with Christmas lights (or was it Easter?).
It was easter decorations.
Just finished. It was really really good. The end dragged a bit, but the payoff is worth it.
