Not really much in the way of news but:

https://collider.com/prey-2-predators-amber-midthunder-comments/

QuoteOur own Perri Nemiroff spoke with Midthunder about the film and asked about the future for Naru. At the end of Prey, she was alive but clearly on high alert for whether or not the Predators would return to her world and so Nemiroff asked Midthunder where she thought Naru was going to next. Would she be ready to train her people to take on the Predator if he were to return or would she want to just move on.

Musing on what could face Naru in the future, Midthunder said:

"That was always how I felt about it because, you know, the movie is such a journey that definitely as the character by the end it feels like — well, also, there's the — I think that it does in part feel like that. I think it's a hope for the best, prepare for the worst kind of a situation. I think that it feels as though they're not gonna come back, but there are ultimately obviously all kinds of threats out there that are unforeseen. Even like the French fur trappers in that interaction and stuff like that, those are all discoveries of things that are out there that they had no idea about. So I think that it's not necessarily preparing for more predators or whatever; I think it's just there [are] unforeseen threats and we gotta be ready."

Doesn't really say much of anything, story or production wise, but at least it's something I guess? So yippee for more Prey 2 news at least

Something is still something. Shes mentioned unforeseen threats in comments previously, so that's actually interesting. I definitely feel like there's something on paper for Prey 2, and now it's just a timing issue.

My guess for this movie
Colonizers arrive as she starts being hunted by a young Greyback, ending of the movie sees her die defending her clan and Greyback kills the rest of the colonizers in her honor, before leaving them be

I mean, Prey did originally start out as a team up movie, so anything's possible.

They could go multiple routes with a direct sequel to Prey, but one thing is for sure, if Greyback does return at least then we will know for sure that we will see the Winston design again!

I'm not convinced Prey 2 is actually in the works, rather it's the animated feature we just got told about. From the Hollywood Reporter interview: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/predator-movie-an-alien-sequel-speed-3-1236042464/

QuoteAfter Prey became a success, Dan [Trachtenberg] came back and said he didn't want to do Prey 2. And we're like, "What do you want to do?" And he rattled off a bunch of ideas that were really crazy but really cool. We've actually done two of them. Two are coming out next year. One I can't talk about yet, but the other one is the live-action Predator film with Elle Fanning that just wrapped in New Zealand. That'll be out theatrically sometime next year.

Hmm yeah that's a very good point that comment does make it seem Prey 2 is not on the agenda at all.

The trades keep mentioning Prey 2 is happening and AM is coming back, but they've also been careful to say nobody's attached to it yet. So it's going to happen, just not yet. I wouldn't be surprised if they went quiet on Prey 2 till after Badlands comes out. What this article said was that DT didn't want to make Prey 2 next, which is what lead to Badlands and the Anime.

Prey 2 might happen but Dan might not be that involved

Yeah that's the take on the comment I had also. He didn't want to do it but that could easily have just meant right now.

If his role going forward really is to effectively godfather the franchise, then I fully expect someone else to direct Prey 2. He'll definitely be involved in writing it, I'm actually convinced that something has already been written for it. Not a full script but at minimum a treatment.

One of the biggest reasons that I would like to see Prey 2 is just to not let the idea linger that the Predator clan slaughtered the tribe, as that feels too cartoonishly petty.

There's no way it was just a massacre, and the Predators left. Naru knows how to both avoid and fight them.

I would like to see how Greyback gets the flintlock and if that's done in Prey 2 then that's what I want to see.

I would just hope they wouldn't make it where he loses and she, Naru or whomever defeats him and decides to spare him and then as a gesture of good faith gives him the pistol. I Wouldn't be surprised if they did something boring and safe like that.
