My god...the alien its a f*** monster! Now i can understand the changes on the legs...The originals were too "human-like", so the alien animations in a videogame will be too silly

Ok, i have to quote this from the article related to somethin i have post a few days ago

"In the demo the alien entered the level at a set point. In the final game it might enter any evironment at any point"

Finally!...not the "press that button = the alien shows up"

Now im happy

Thank god we dont have the legs and feets from 1979...they were the worst part of the suit, and made the alien look a little ridiculous

I personally love the creepy humanoid feel of the original. But jeez that magazine screenshot of the alien having to bend its back to fit inside the hallway...loving the mass on this one.

Wondering how that size would play out if we get a couple of vents sequences?

+1

plus you barely can see the whole creature in the movie, thats why the had to go with something else...a simply human like walking alien is a bit off in a game, bug walk is bit boring and less creapy, and this was the 3rd option to make it completely different, at least its not a dino

I dont think its completely different, still very Gigeresque...the head, the skull inside the dome, the chest...just bigger than the original , plus less humanoid legs.

I'd rather flip ACM and AVP99's ratings around. Hey at least they made the Alien look scarier than any other of it's predecessors.

Did you just try to say that A:CM was better than AvP Classic...?

Oops, I wasn't very clear with my comment but when I said "I personally love the creepy humanoid feel of the original" I pretty much meant "I personally love the creepy humanoid feel that the human like legs gave the original," in response to your comment that you felt that those legs made the Alien look a little ridiculous.  I like the way the 1979 Alien echoed the human body, as some sort of distorted biomechanical beast.  Of course there are some shots where the suit looks a bit awkward, but I also feel that nowadays, the digitigrade legs like the ones being used for the game are a bit over-used in "ooo it's a scary monster/alien because it has legs like a dinosaur!!!" department.  :P

Scott didnt take a shot of the alien walking, yeah i know they were "test footage" but they avoid all that stuff in the final product. The human legs looks cool in a picture, but not in motion...coz make the alien look like a man in a suit. In that screenshot from PC gamer (the one with the full alien body) i cant imagine the alien with human legs...wow, no way

The human legs were fine. They don't look out of place in the crab-crawling outttake.
Title: Re: Alien: Isolation in PC Gamer
Post by: Seegson on Jan 14, 2014, 10:50:06 PM
The crab-crawling was a bit weird, and wasnt in the final product...in a videogame the alien its gonna be over-exposed, "he" its gonna sprint sometimes, and the human legs wont work there

Like usain bolt with a super-head
Title: Re: Alien: Isolation in PC Gamer

I'd take it over Usain Bolt with awkwardly twitching double-jointed legs.
Title: Re: Alien: Isolation in PC Gamer
Post by: Seegson on Jan 14, 2014, 11:04:00 PM
But you cant, coz the double-jointed legs arent human...so, in motion, they dont seem to be human. Thats the main point. The "man in a suit" problem when the alien moves its solved that way (so bye bye Usain). In the original film Scott solved that not showing the alien walking.

Anyway, the hack minigame seems to be cool. I really hope we xan interact with some kind of AI mainframe in sevastopol..."mother"

The double jointed legs aren't human and look awkward when tacked onto something that has a human posture. They've made a point of making the Alien more upright in this game than we see in other games, because it was more upright in the original movie. The legs which they're trying to use to break up the human appearance are now going to look God-damn stupid unless the thing hunches over into a generic scary monster stance when running, which is what they keep telling us they wanted to avoid.

Post by: Seegson on Jan 14, 2014, 11:15:20 PM
Well, the alien is "upright" in some parts of the demo footage (when he can ,offcourse, he is dam tall).

Perhaps Creative thinks that the alien look more stupid (using your own words) with human legs in motion, so they use the double joited ones. I think the same way, so im happy, and i dont think they are gonna change that.

No shit they're not going to change it.

Funny cause they've worked just fine in four other games.

Funny coz you were bitching about alien desing in all thouse games, as usual.

In fact, if Isolation finally have a MP option, you will write a wall of text explaining  why "its a bad idea"...after the last one, crying about the opposite.

I like the humanoid look of the original because it evokes a sexy, slim human, the humanoid look and almost feline like feet with slim legs were a part of the aliens sexual image, a sort of distorted, biomechanoid horror with a sexual human shape. I was never a fan of the dinosaur legs. Some of you said the originals made it look like a suit or that they would look bad in motion, yet we see plenty of aliens in motion in Aliens. Granted, the feet were slightly altered but for stuntmen only, but the legs were exactly the same, and of human form naturally, and the aliens looked amazing and perfect with their silhouettes and human form in both Alien and Aliens

The sexual/nightmare angle and its implication is pretty much erased with SEGA's catalog, and so is the notion that there's an echo in the Alien's design back to where it came from, and all the body-horror vibes that go with it.

It's pretty much a garden variety CC enemy with some signature animations thrown on for the most part, and most of the variations of that have attributes or design motifs designed to call out the changes with completely overdeveloped telegraphy (spitters have giant glowy sacs and spend seconds hawking up acid, the crusher is the size of house and 90% head, despite the fact a normal size and shaped Alien flattened Hicks/Bald British Guy #X with pretty unilateral impunity)

Except wrong because the one with human derived proportions actually pretty much got things right for the technology of the time, AvP2 Predalien excepted, and I posted as much. You're gonna have to troll an order of magnitude harder than that to even get an eyebrow raise.

Ultra-fast shots of jump, crawl etc...not walking, or running. In the first film the alien barely moves at all. "The magic of hollywood"

Good article, but I have to disagree with their review of Alien Trilogy.  While it certainly was an action game, it had a hell of a lot of tension and atmosphere, and was pretty creepy at times.  Some of the Derelict levels especially were like descending into hell.

^ This guy knows what's up.
In general what they're proposing about the core gameplay and the descriptions the reporters give about how it feels to play sound great, and if the Alien's movements look good in the context of the game environments I won't be bothered by the legs.
