A new 5-issue Predator series will debut in May, written by Chris Warner and featuring the return of several characters from past comics!

Beat me to this info by 1 min lol.
This is interesting. Like the art style. I wonder if Dutch, his brother or Harrigan will have a role?
The premise is almost like Xenogenesis, only hopefully more competent.
Looks interesting, art is pretty decent.
I can dig it. I like how it's bringing back old characters (and essentially "re-canonizing" those old stories in the process).
Reminds me of the "South China Sea" Book.
What I find interesting is this theme of reacquainting us with the concept of Predators hunting Predators. Not saying that this series will but the announcement takes care to talk about Bad Blood.

I have never read the book but did get a slight vibe of it from synopsises I have read.
I love the cover to Issue #1 already and its great that we get some old characters back. Guess some Predator stories are easier to Recanonise than Some Alien stories
Nice glad to see more returning characters and it not being just Dutch's brother again
This is a surprise. So it looks like that some of the old EU might be canon again. Kind of like how some of Star Wars Legends is, right?
That would certainly appear so.
Kind of got mixed opinions about this.
I expect no less. Lol
Did Fox/DH ever actually say that they were de-canonizing the non AvP predator comics?
I assumed the re-boot only really applied to aliens and somewhat to AvP, the present day Predator stories never really backed themselves into a corner vs the films like aliens did by infesting earth.

I just assumed they decanonized EVERYTHING but the films, I mean it's not unreasonable to assume that since well... back in 2013 they did say they were hard rebooting everything.

They really never did, but yeah the old Predator comics would largely be very easy to re-canonize (and it looks like that's the route they're taking). It helps that 99% of them are set either in "the present" or some point in the past.
Since we're getting returning characters, fingers crossed Maya Bergstrom from Homeworld has a cameo. Probably not, though.
I wonder if the humans tasked with fighting the Preds will be called Spearhead. A Xenogenesis reference would be pretty bold.

May 3rd release.
And a variant covers are all being done by Francisco Ruiz Velasco.
The premise reminds me of Freddy versus Jason versus Ash: The Nightmare Warriors. In a good way!
I reckon this will become the focus of "present" Predator comics, while the "future" ones will work with the Aliens and Prometheus comics.
I am excited for this!
Nice art...

Regarding the re-canonization of some of the old Predator EU, I personally think it would be neat if Dark Horse found some way of re-canonizing some of the old Aliens and AVP EU with the new stuff. Some stuff, like the whole Earth War arc, would obviously have to be ignored though.
Man...I hope this doesn't suck
hmmm....sad that Chris is not doing the art. best Predator artist by lightyears.
The art kinda looks like the art in Predator 2009

We've got another thread about it, but it'd be trivially easy to re-canonize large swaths of the old AvP/Aliens EU. Heck, i wouldn't be surprised if they took the Star Wars Legends approach.
I hope this makes up for Pred vs. Dredd

:o
Just read the first issue. Nice little set up issue, as i expected. I think the art works well. Characters seem to be fleshed out nicely. We could be in for a very good Predator comic here.
I have similar feelings as well, not sure about the art yet. The preds look weird but they still look pretty cool in a few panels. I like the connections to the older comics. Its mostly set up but i think this will be betfer than the last predator series from 09.
Looks like the next issue will introduce another old character, im hoping for Detective Schaeffer
I was hoping the same. Could also be the girl that survived in Bad Blood.
The redrawing of that scene in Big Game with Nakai holding the Yautja's head...really sucks compared to the original art.
I will eagerly await NECA doing the Predator from the book's intro. He looks badass.
I really enjoyed the comic and love the artwork.
A bit too cartoony IMO
...but I understand the late 80s/early 90s are gone forever
They seemed a little more tribal? I enjoyed the first issue. I liked the art and the characters are interesting.
I really enjoyed the first issue. Artwork is pretty nice (I'm digging this take on the Predator) and I'm enjoying the setup and the concept of a Predator hunting team. Also cool to tie them back into the other series. I like that. Pretty keen to see where this one goes.

Is it not Detective ? ;D
OK, so if they are tying these back to older Predator comics, that means they are back in the canon now, right?
And what are all the nods back to the older stuff? I'd like to pick up some of the older series, and may as well start with stories that are possibly becoming canon again.

The main character in this series is the main character from the 'Big Game' series. Also, another main character in this is a descendant of the main character from another Predator comic, the title of which escapes me.

OK, sweet. Thanks. I just bought both of those series on eBay. Seems to be cheaper to just buy the actual comics than to get the omnibuses. They are bloody expensive now.
Are they really? That's really unfortunate because they were a bargain when they came out.
Yeah, everywhere I've looked so far they are either out of stock, or over 40 bucks. Same with the Alien Omnibuses. Some of those are still going for original price, but one or two of them have ridiculous price tags on them now.

Holy shit, that's one hell of an obscure callback.
The funny thing is if Nemesis is now "canon" again, then Mycroft Holmes (and by association, his more famous brother) exist in the Predator universe again. :P
Still waiting on a Homeworld reference...

They like #2.
Just read it. I must say that i am enjoying this. The set up is pretty good. Art is consistent. I like the characters. Enoche is a much more likable guy this time around. Not as big a dick as he was in Big Game.
Spoiler
I called this awhile back but the returning character is Mandy. The survivor of Bid Blood. Glad theg have her here.
Pretty cool issue, starting to warm up the art more now. Im liking where the story is headed and this predator really has my interest.
Also i love Doug Wheatleys cover art, i cant say that enough.
I loved issue 2 and I look forward to seeing what happens next.
I really dig the detailed artwork.
Spoiler
Poor Mandy Graves, the way the Predator crushed her hand looks like it really f**king hurt... I remember reading Bad Blood but it was so long ago that I remember very little of it. I should give it a re-read someday.
My Big Game and Nemesis back issues arrived today, so I'll be reading these at work tonight before I start Hunters.
Enjoy...both are great IMO
You need Bad Blood as well.
Uh oh. How come? It's connected to Hunters as well?
And I loved Big Game. Wasn't sold on Nemesis. Maybe if they'd not included Mycroft Holmes and Lestrade in it, but they did.

Bad Blood is connected to hunters but its also a pretty great predator series. Its wacky, hyper violent, and really really bloody.
Ok, I will try and track that one down too.
I don't think Bad Blood is more violent than Big Game
Predator comics from the early to mid 90s were pretty much all hyper-violent.
Big Game was really good though. It totally captured the Predator's ruthlessness IMO...great action.
Got around to reading the first two issues, and I'm hoping things pick up in a big way. The series has been a bit two heavy on the set-up and dialog dumps. I also can't decide if it like or dislike the art. The coloring is great, and so are some of the spreads, but I'll have to see more of the Preds to decide if I like how they're depicted.
I quite enjoyed the set up from the first two issues. There was a nice amount of action threaded throughout.
I wish they would recanonize the old stuff from all the series. Maybe do reprints of the Omnibus editions that change a few dates & names around. Viola.
Then you have a launchpad for sequels to all those old stories that can incorporate elements from the newer films.

I agree with this so damn much. Since everything after Genocide stayed away from messing with the movies, this method wouldn't run into the problems of the first couple Aliens comics, where they just changed the names of characters who were just straight-up Ripley and co.
It would still run into problems. Some minor; some not.

It was okay, the art is holding it back a bit for me. I dont really like the way the artist draws the predator masks and faces. The action also feels somewhat generic with this art style. However Wheatleys cover art is fantastic.

I knew the islanders were up to no good, also it looked like there were a lot of predators in those canoes, I thought there was only a total of 3 left after they killed the first?
Only one more issue left, not sure how they can tie it all up in a satisfying way in just one issue but we'll see.

Predators canoeing are islanders dressed as them. Notice the fingers do not end in claws? Also the dreads look flat and fake rather than smooth and round and ridged. Also in the cover for the next issue it says "Predator vs Not-Predator" plus the words "The Human Factor" make me think these are humans. Also in the cover of the next issue, compare the two fighting Predators, look at the fake dreads on one of them, similar looking to the ones on the canoe.

Sorry if this is a bit more than you are asking.
Spoiler
turns out that the people living on the island have been there for around a century. Well they are the descendants of people that settled there. A group of Predators crash landed and beached on that island and the population of people captured them, whilst taking heavy casualties, and then set them loose on the other island. This island was going to be a game preserve. Now they release random animals there for the Predators to hunt. The Predators are effectively prisoners.
That's pretty cool, thanks for sharing.
Holy cow, that was a pretty great issue. It pretty much saved the series for me. Not a lot of predator action but i really dug how the story played out. Ending was pretty great too imo. Really enjoyed it.

Great podcast lads. Loved this comic, probably one of the best I've ever read. They absolutely nailed the predators in this. Brutal, cunning and most importantly mysterious. I could be mistaken but I don't think the word Yautja was used once in this tale, no talk of blooded or unblooded or stupid predator names like "rusty blades" or "broken teeth". Like nails on a chalk board to me.
In this story they are stripped back down to basics and their actions tell you all the back story you need to know.
The part where a predator lets a character go and points in a direction with a bloodied weapon and mimics the words "go to hell" just tells you everything about that particular aliens code of honour in combat. The creators of this story really got it. And the designs of the predators in the flashback scenes were so good.
My only complaint would be that "Big Game" came out almost 30 years ago and Enoch was in his early twenties at a guess in that comic. The guy should be pushing 50 at least by now but he barely looks like he's in his 30's.
no one ages in comics do they?
