There's a story in the bible about kids calling a bald man a baldhead, after which he asks god to smite them or something like that.
Then two female bears appear and kill 42 kids.
I have been making fun of my uncle's bald head for most of my life, to think that I have been so close of being sent god's wrath bears during all this time. Feeling pretty alpha now.
I once went to a UFO cult. I was even Younger and naive. Of course it was pure nonsense (adrogynous human-looking aliens from the Jupiter moons who come to Earth to save us from the evil grey aliens or whatever) and a waste of my time. But I was laughing my ass off during the meditation and mantras ;D :D
When I was a kid in the summer back in the day, a long time ago we'd get dropped off at my great aunts to be babysit. Well back then was the sega genesis era of games so we'd get bored and go outside and play. Behind her house there was a sinkhole. In that sinkhole somebody had tied together sticks and branches and tree limbs to make to elevated walkways and filled the bottom of the sinkhole with spears. It looked pretty tribal.
But IT ALSO looked like the level in the first mortal kombat when you could knock people off into the spears.
BUt anyways, I lived around weird people. That is all.

Quote from: American HeritageDuring November of 1896 the United States experienced its first publicized UFO flap, and it is perhaps not surprising that it should have occurred in California. After all, Erich von Däniken would have us believe that the prehistoric petroglyphs in Inyo County represent interplanetary flight; Fray Geronimo Boscana, the missionary at San Juan Capistrano, described a "two-tailed comet" overhead in 1823; and in 1883 the scientist John J. Montgomery began his heavier-than-air experiments by putting a glider into the air over the sun-browned hills of Otay Mesa, south of San Diego.
All this, though, was pretty small change compared with the arrival of "The Great Airship."

The Murder of Candace NewmakerQuote from: KotakuThroughout the game, there are multiple references to "rebirthing," and "Newmaker." Players treating Petscop as an ARG have discovered that these are references to Candance Newmaker, a real person. Newmaker was adopted at five, but she was apparently a troubled child who allegedly killed pets. Seeking help for their rocky relationship, Newmaker's guardians tried something called "Attachment Therapy," which is supposed to help kids connect with their parents. The goal is to make a kid revert back to an infant's state of mind, which supposedly makes it easier for parents to control their children. None of this stuff is backed by actual science, however, which might explain why things went horribly for Newmaker.

Smithsonian describes its brain as "shaped like a donut." And weirdly enough, its esophagus actually runs through that hole.
But here's the catch: While the brain is colossally complicated, it's actually pretty small as a share of the giant squid's full body mass. While a giant squid can weigh up to one ton, based on the carcasses that have washed ashore and the limited video evidence we've seen of the them, their brain only weighs about 100 grams, which is just over one-fifth of a pound. Still, that's the largest invertebrate brain on record.

This object is a relatively nearby spiral galaxy that appears to have a hole in one side of its disk, with fewer stars than normal. Now, an idea put forth in SETI is that some advanced aliens can hop from star to star within their host galaxy, and they build Dyson spheres around each star to harvest as much energy as possible.
"That's a giant shell or swarm that completely surrounds a sun, which would hide it from our view. So if we caught a galaxy midway through that process, or if they stopped before shrouding the entire galaxy, one expects to find a galaxy with a hole in it," Lacki told Gizmodo. "That's probably not what is going on with NGC 247—we expect the sunlight to heat the Dyson sphere until it glows in infrared light, and we don't see that from the 'hole' as far as I know."

Quote from: KotakuA strange new product appeared on Steam last week: a Nintendo Entertainment System emulator that translates the 2D pixel graphics of classic 8-bit games into 3D worlds built with voxels. It's called 3dSen, it has standard and standard+VR versions, and it lets you experience a select slice of the NES library from unusual new perspectives.

Psychiatric diagnosis 'scientifically meaningless'
https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/07/190708131152.htm
QuoteThe main findings of the research were:
- Psychiatric diagnoses all use different decision-making rules
- There is a huge amount of overlap in symptoms between diagnoses
- Almost all diagnoses mask the role of trauma and adverse events
- Diagnoses tell us little about the individual patient and what treatment they need
The authors conclude that diagnostic labelling represents 'a disingenuous categorical system'.

Interesting. I'm not saying that there are no mental illnesses, but sometimes I can't help thinking that psychiatry can be harmful to a person with a special behavior, i.e by no means a crazy person but just different. And yet, he/she's going to be drugged to death so he/she won't be a nuisance to a selfish society.
Quote from: The GuardianA mysterious monolith has been discovered in a remote part of Utah, after being spotted by state employees counting sheep from a helicopter.
The structure, estimated at between 10ft and 12ft high (about 3 metres), appeared to be planted in the ground. It was made from some sort of metal, its shine in sharp contrast to the enormous red rocks which surrounded it.

Actually, how would you feel if we told you that the potted flower next to your chair, as well as your brain and the four walls surrounding all of you—each and every one—possess an internal mental characteristic? What if the world around you was not an inanimate stage, upon which you, the owner of a soul, played the lead role, but was instead fully awake–just like you?
