Does the alien from covenant(the protomorph) count as a runner? They way it moved seemed similar to the Alien 3 dog alien.

The lore considers the Alien from Covenant - the Praetomorph as it now officially referred to in the RPG, not Protomorph. Protomorph was just a nickname from a very crappy website - to be an entirely different thing. The Runners are specifically things from quadrupedal hosts, regardless of how other Aliens get on all-fours.

Ridley Scott has talked favourably about the Runner from Alien 3 in the past, so there may be an influence in its design. I feel it's definitely apparent at certain times.
