this mustve been discussed before im sure but Outland is like sooooooo similar to Alien it could be set in the same universe right?

theres obviously been many other SF films that have been modelled on Alien since 1979 but Outland seems the closest..(some of the same crew also worked on Alien just a couple of years before)

its really similar - The sets, space suits, truckers/oil rig workers in space, hyper sleep, evil corporation (Con-Amalgamate could be a predecessor or rival company of Weyland-Yutani), Jerry Goldsmiths score, the opening is similar with the title appearing backlit with the similar eerie music. Even the tagline is similar - "Even in space the ultimate enemy is still man."

remember when first saw it being disappointed there was no aliens in it (not xenomorphs - just aliens in general as a SF space set film without aliens or some strange phenomena felt as if it were missing something)

not sure when exactly its set but think it might be before Alien in which case a prequel set in the same universe with Alien 'DNA' (in this case some of the same creative crew behind the sets/costumes/props/minatures/music) was done 30 years before Prometheus :D

John Mollo and a lot of Alien's crew worked on Outland :)

Outland is pretty good, actually. It's not really horror in space though, more like a classic western in space. But the parallels to Alien in the films cinematography and the framing of the story elements, are pretty obvious.

Alien3 nicked the computer readout sound effects.

Local Trouble

I think it fits in even better than Blade Runner does.

BR set in the Alien universe works about as well as Terminator

Local Trouble

Has anyone actually compiled a list of potential obstacles that might prevent Terminator and Blade Runner from existing in the same universe as Alien?

I'm looking at you, SM.

BR could sort of be (as in Prometheus BR) but i dont think Terminator would work (especially now the Weyland chronology has charted everything that ever happened in the Alien verse)  - unless the war against the machines was just a bad spell humanity went through before winning and then using all the advanced tech the machined created to develop FTL ships, cyborgs etc (isnt there an Alien v Predator v Terminator comic series? - mustve explained it in someway like that)

Anybody who actually watched the films in question ... ?

Blade Runner is trickier.... 2019 date... genetic Replicants arent androids... erhm... doesnt contradict anything outright in the alien universe... and Ridley was playing around with the idea of having the "Weyland-Tyrell" corporation in Prometheus, right? :P

The conclusion of the second Terminator film could see that the war against the machines didn't happen. Old Johnny boy possibly prevented it. Even so Cyberdyne could comfortably fit in the Alien universe. Perhaps even being an acquisition of Weyland. In fact, the original Aliens script had Cyberdyne be the firm that created Bishop, but it was later changed to Hyperdyne.
