I was reading an interview with the director of "300" and he says, in the scene where the Spartans come across a destroyed village and meet the little girl who is the lone survivor. "This is a direct reference to Newt, the lone survivor to the savage alien attack in Aliens."
I thought that was pretty cool and I know there are many more reference's in stuff like:
