Not surprising. The population is much larger than it was back then. And advancements in medicine has led to increased life expectancy. Lots of elderly people, and that group is the most likely to die from the virus.

Is what it is. You can live in Fantasyland all you want. Thats happening alot these days. Most of the people dying are the elderly. People live a lot longer now than they did back in 1918. We're also able to better manage heart disease, diabetes, and all sorts of health conditions that would have resulted in an early death back in 1918.

What we're dealing with now is a massive population, filled with elderly individuals and people with comorbidities. Of course a lot of people have died. Tons more are gonna die. Nature and poor decision-making are taking their toll. And numbers do count. A house fire might kill 4 people. A fire in a crowded theater is going to kill more. I'm surprised it took this long.

Gunmen Target crowds for a reason. You kill more people when they're packed together. That's why the covid death count in the cities like New York was so ridiculous early in the pandemic. More hosts.

West Virginia wasn't doing so well because they were healthier. For goodness sakes, look at the people who live there. But now everybody in the South wants to go to Cracker barrel and party. Consequently, all these unhealthy people down here are starting get sick. They're not staying home anymore. And they're not getting vaccinated either.

And none of that is counting the future strains that are going to arrive through our Southern border, now that it's open for business.

Just imagine how many of them are spreading it every Sunday when they go to church.

You're lucky you live in an isolated cabin where the only visitors you get are wounded animals or naked fugitives.

Can't tell people anything. You ask em if they're vaccinated, and they'll say Tucker Carlson said it has microchips in it.

Smh.

Fine. But good luck facing raw covid with "the beetus".

Rich.

NZ population 1918: about 1,150,000
NZ deaths from 1918 Flu: about 9000

NZ population 2021: 4,822,233
NZ deaths from Covid 19: 27

The aging population and comorbidities are equally valid factors here, and yet...

There's your main answer, nothing else.

A lot of people not taking it seriously and not doing the bare minimum to protect themselves and others - and that's everyone from the everyday person to entire governments - is the number one leading cause of COVID deaths.

Hell, some people are deliberately coughing on others and having "covid parties."

This is why natural immunity just has no hope, or really has never had any hope, of being successful - at least in this region, Huggs.  These folks think that they can take their chances of fighting it off naturally, and yet look at them.  Many have had diabetes since their 20's/30's, COPD, amputations, htn, and somehow they think they're going to fight this thing off?   :-\  I mean, that's a pretty risky dice roll.  And not just for themselves, but surrounding communities too.

Speaking of West Virginia, the UCI 2021 World Cup just happened about a week ago over there in Snowshoe.
