Title: Trauma Map Pack Announced: Alien Isolation DLC
Post by: Corporal Hicks on Dec 02, 2014, 10:27:37 AM

Creative Assembly has just announced the second Survivor map pack for Alien Isolation, Trauma, and issued a challenge to the community:

“'Trauma', will see you exploring the three new maps as Sevastopol's medical officer, Dr Lingard, who you may have already encountered in our main game.

Racked with guilt and feeling responsible for bringing the creature on board, she holds herself liable for the death and destruction that ravages the station as the Alien is unleashed.

Wanting to ensure that her research on the creature can never fall into the wrong hands, Lingard sets out to destroy all the data and do as much as she can to help the remaining survivors.

Playing as Lingard, you'll be facing the challenge of competing against other players to get the fastest time and the highest points score across three new Survivor Mode maps, 'Reoperation', 'Crawl Space' and 'Overrun'.”

Trauma is the second of five Survivor maps due out and is available from today.

I haven't played the first set yet - I was waiting to buy the season pass which I think I'll do tonight. Quite looking forward to giving it a go!

I haven't tried either of the DLCs - or Survivor mode in general, really - but I might give it a go some time. Please share your thoguhts if you do pick this up, I heard mixed things about the previous add-on.

Just finished it and I'm not very impressed tbh. The alien only showed up for me on the first level, which is nicely fleshed out, at least on the same line as the previous pack. The second level is essentially facehuggers everywhere, which still aren't random for me, and a couple of androids. You start with the flamethower and there's fuel every two steps. The third level was all androids and it's incredibly brief, it was as 2 minute walk for me.

I've not tried Corporate Lockdown so can't really comment on the huggers - but the Alien is supposed to be random. You tried it again to see if it has more of a presence?

Survivor doesn't have a selectable difficulty setting does it? Because on easy the Alien almost never shows up in the main campaign, at least not until towards the end. By comparison, on hard it's there almost constantly.

I was enamoured by the main game but the DLC hasn't interested me so far. I'll give it a miss.

It's the lack of any attempt at story that's put me off. I'm sure the gameplay's OK, but they didn't even do any cutscenes or voiceover work for the first DLC pack.

It reminds me of the Assassin's Creed DLC. A bunch of maps and not much else to alter the core gameplay or develop the story in deep or at least meaningful ways.

I find the lack of attempt at story even more frustrating because they're picking interesting characters to play as. Ransome and Lingard were ripe for development.

Wow the description is far better than the DLC itself.

Yeah, I'm very much a 'story and characters' kind of gamer. It's the hardest thing (imo) that a game can pull off, and Isolation has buckets of story and intrigue that they could, but haven't, expanded on.

It's scripted not to appear at certain times, same as in the main game just not as obvious. For me it won't appear during the second and third maps no matter how much noise you make.

I wish it was more story driven DLC too but unfortunately I doubt we'll see it. I like the basic premise of Survivor. Reminds me a lot of Alien Trilogy.

That a shame. Are other reporting similar issues?

I'm downloading the updates now but I'm suddenly not as enthusiastic.  :-\

Don't think it's an issue at all. It seems pretty intentional.

I hope they're not trying to reduce the difficulty.

I hope they're not trying to reduce the difficulty.

If no one plays it, there was no point in making it to begin with.

That said, it's ultra boring, and yes the Alien will not normally enter certain areas by design... but he can chase you into them if you present a straight shot.

I havet touched any of the dlc because none of it seems to be story driven or anything. its all timed  against other people. which honestly has little interest to me

I think it's more about the experience without sinking the time into it. If you fancy a 10 minute go, without being pulled in and finding its suddenly 3 hours later, then Survivor is a nice enough dip into the world.

I do wish they'd have done a proper story driven campaign but I'm able to enjoy these. Like I said before, Survivor reminds me a lot of Alien Trilogy and I really dig that.

ah good, I was worried you hadn't got it during the sale, but since the sale is still on, and I saw in your other thread that you got it, no worries :)

I was kind of annoyed that I bought it with a 25% off coupon not long ago, seems insane to do 50% off when the second of 4 DLCs has only just come out!

All the better for us! Best time to get it if you're interested in Survivor. I wonder how well the DLC is selling?

Does any of this:

"Racked with guilt and feeling responsible for bringing the creature on board, she holds herself liable for the death and destruction that ravages the station as the Alien is unleashed.

Wanting to ensure that her research on the creature can never fall into the wrong hands, Lingard sets out to destroy all the data and do as much as she can to help the remaining survivors."

Actually happen?

Yeah, it does. That description provides more context than the game itself tho.

I finally got the time to give the DLC a playthrough and I have to say these Survivor levels and a LOT harder than the main campaign.  Hell, every time I got on a level with the Alien, it always seems to know where I am.  I think the developers may have tipped the new levels in favor of the Alien; when an Alien repeatedly returns to the room you happen to be in on multiple plays and never seems to go anywhere else, things start looking suspicious.

It did this to me on Hard mode in the campaign, it always knew where I was and would patrol in and around the room until I either waited for ages for it to go away for made a break for it. One tactic I learned was to just keep moving (walking obvs) and often it will be one step behind you when it comes out of the vents.

Yeah, on hard it's a persistent bastard. You have to try and slip away while it patrols your general area. On easier difficulties it'll wander away almost immediately. In fact I barely saw it on my easy run.

Huh, it never did that to me on hard; the Alien always patrolled the areas equally, it never seemed to have an advantage knowing where I was.

A little test to prove it is next time you play in medical on hard (I'm fairly sure this will work in other areas too) when it's out and about but cant see you, go in a locker. If you wait for a bit the Alien is almost certain to turn up and stand outside your locker. I started avoiding them for this exact reason. Ironically I always found vents to be the safest place.

That might explain it, I relied much less on lockers on my hard run than on my normal one.  I played the game 2x on hard and normal and have done a basic play through of all survivor maps (no optional objectives completed), but for some reason I still haven't got my 100 kills by Alien trophy. :(

impressive, i was on over 50 after my first hard playthrough.

I still didn't have my 100 deaths after two and a half playthroughs (although admittedly one of those was my "One Shot" run). Survivor is your best bet for racking up Alien kills as quickly as possible - just run out into the level and wait to get nommed.
