He also had the balls (or insanity) of doing what he did to the alien cocoon, even when that cost him dearly. His slow death by acid was quite a non-desirable onw I'd say, even for a character you don't like.

I'll give him that. Maybe I was too quick to bash him just because he was so hot headed

His wife wasn't pregnant. His girlfriend/partner was Navarro
oh shit really? xD. I really need to watch the movie again hahh. Not paying theater again though until dvd. I think this movie was to watch it at theaters once only.

Nah he acted valiantly when the cocoon scene..., well we can see it either crazy or nobly. He tried to protect the girl anyway. Was it dumb what he did?, he didn't have any other weapon anyway. Many would have done the same me thinks

Rudiger

Pretty sure Navarro was Bjorn's adopted sister, not his partner / girlfriend. Kay, his cousin, was pregnant with his child. I'm guessing this was some kind of call back / reference to Covenant, which featured married couples as colonists. Now things have seemingly gone tits up in the off-world colonies, people are less concerned (or have less choice) about who they pair up with. They probably didn't make it too explicit / obvious for marketing reasons.

The Cruentus

Makes you wonder how the covenant folks were going to have a future, since 2,000 people isn't enough to prevent inbreeding. If its been happening on Jackson that has the same population, its would have happened to them.

Anyway while Bjorn was an asshole, I don't think he would be the most reviled character in the franchise. Wren from Rez easily beats him in assholeness.

Remember the embryos.

Also, the Covenant was only the first colonial detachment posted to Origae-6 (per The Blueprints). More people likely would have been shipped there if the initial settlement had been successful.

The Cruentus

That's true, how long was the journey? was it ten years?

Around eight years. Also, the FTL drives on the Affiance-class underwent upgrades over the years, so travel times would be shorter as time went on.

Sevastopol

I've known a couple of Bjorns in my life. I think he nailed the insecure asshole type.

QuoteI can't see any bigotry in hating androids because one of them left your relatives to die in some sort of "triage" when a mine was collapsing. It was actually the only reason not to take his character as an absolute unlikable twat

So if a black person decided to "triage" when a mine was collapsing and left your relatives to die, would it be okay to hate all black people?
The thing is that Andy is not a black person, he is a synthetic.

Synthetic are not humans and just because Rain had positive experiences with Andy (because he was programmed to do so) while growing up, that doesn't mean that Bjorn did.

Bjorn doesn't see the individuality in synthetics, he just sees the machine, so it's not about white, black, asian, etc...

You're so close...
Don't patronize me with the "you're so close...", especially because Andy being black was clearly not a factor in the casting, given how we see here in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrwypATHZ44) that the actor that played Tyler could also audition to play Andy too.

Bjorn's hatred and distrust of synthetic is completely rational and logical given that androids and their programming got his mother killed, not to mention that on some level, that argument of yours could easily be used to paint Ripley as a racist because of her distrust of Bishop at the start of Aliens, given her past experience with Ash, but we all know that it is ridiculous to even consider such a thing.

It's not an irrational hatred of people just because of the color of their skin.

Andy's programming and new directives by the Company meant that Navarro and Kay were expendable, so, regardless of whether sacrificing them was the better option or not, humans (such as Bjorn) in the moment may not see it as such and will lash out at such cold decisions.

Weyland-Yutani's will extends towards their synthetics and the orders that they were given, so Bjorn's motives for hating synthetics are also connected with his experience with The Company.

I mean, hell, these characters want to leave their colony for an independent system, outside of Weyland-Yutani's control and reach.

I take it back.

You're not even remotely close.

Bjorn was an entertaining asshole, I thought. I enjoyed him while he was around; thought his personality was sketched out effectively by the script and by Fearn. Felt every bit like the sort of unscrupulous, clownish, narrowly-lovable-despite-abundant-flaws type you might end up having in your social circle as a younger person. He was kind of nostalgic, in a weird way.

"One of the most hateable"? He doesn't really provoke that reaction from me. Bjorn was just a down-on-his-luck young man. His unrestrained hatred for androids and other emotional regulation issues make sense given his circumstances (if he was living a life of privilege where he had access to plenty of mental health resources and refused them, then I might think different), and I don't particularly care about who he happens to be f**king, as long as everybody agreed to it.
