Don't forget people can be romantic for the ending of the original film and feel like what Romulus does to undo that ending is unnecessary and borderline insulting.

We're here for the vibes - but sometimes the vibes are off.

I feel you.  I'm still feeling my way around here.  I am a huge Alien fan since way before the internet.  I noticed your subscript (?) about being annoyed by different directors making it a challenge to create a cohesive and logical description of the Alienverse.  Personally, I think it is Awesome and has been a great strength of the franchise, in fact it is one of the things that I have consistently flagged as Awesome, that the first four films each yield incredibly disparate 'takes' or 'spins' if you will.

A full in depth discussion of whether the Alienverse should be 'contained and quantified' or 'romanticized' almost certainly exists somewhere in these forums, and I am ready to engage in that productive argument, but I am pretty sure that I will always end up on the side of "You do you".  Whether you enjoy the quantification of it, I might even call it the 'Star Trek'-ification of it.

So long as you can imagine those long lonely hallways in the depths of space, we will always be on the same side.

To me, it retconned (in a certain sense) the ending of Alien into what people think AlienĀ³ says, pretty nihilistic that Ripley never won.
She won. Just not in a rosy kind of way.
