Here's a little sample of what I am working on:
A faster, less serious and re-scored alternate cut of first Alien movie in grindhouse style.
I like the vibe of this, would be curious to watch the whole thing ;)
Still much work to do. Completing alternate soundtrack right now.
Also, I'm considering using some of the deleted scenes from Anthology Set, maybe even those of poor quality, is there a list of all additional footage from that set? (including any outtakes which may be included in longer documentaries).
I'm considering some kind of alternate ending too, but that would be tricky.
Corporal ?
I'm afraid I dont know what you mean.
I was summoning Corporal Hicks, he's site's admin. You should PM him for info you need, I think he'll be able to help
You can probably find what you need here - https://www.avpgalaxy.net/alien-movies/alien/deleted-scenes/ or here - https://avp.fandom.com/wiki/Alien_deleted_scenes
Well, I know those deleted scenes and have read that before, but that's not exactly what I'm looking for - the problem is locating all of this footage on full of content Anthology bonus disc which are no exactly clearly structured, also, I've just found an info in one of the forum threads about some little outtake included in Alien Saga documentary, so just wanted to know how to find it and if there's more of those.
There's a fan edit that throws it all into an edited film if that interests you.
I know, I've seen it and I have it (Alien Appendix vol. 2 Virtual workprint), but the quality of it is even worse that those scenes have on official releases.
There's an updated version. Also, isn't low quality appropriate for the grindhouse aesthetic?
Not that kind of low quality. Compression artifacts have nothing to do with grindhouse aesthetic.
I am only familiar with 15 year old DVD release. Looks like I need to find this new version.

Speaking of which, could you find some use for this in your edit ?
Probably yes :)

Do the original Ridley Scott ending that was shot down by the studio.
You know the one.
How would you do that though ? I guess through some clunky editing. Like when Alien is about to headbite Ripley right before she screams you can cut to the shot of Brett's/Parker's being headbited to make an impression of BC killing her. And then you can put audio of Ripley's final message on top of some footage of Alien, Idk, maybe when it's sitting still squeezed in between tubes ?
Yeah, I've been thinking about including this ending - I have some ideas how to do it.
QuoteThere's an updated version.
With messed up fps. Can't use that.
Deep Purple is my all time favorite band so that track is perfect. Will it be included in the edit itself?
Yes. Opening credits will be almost the same as presented here (just some little tweaks for grindhouse filters may occur).
Also, I've just made that suggested alternate ending (some custom-made shots included). It won't be perfect, but I did my best ;)
Oooh, can't wait !
There's still a room for further improvement, so I'll take my time and think it over.
That Alien theme you've proposed landed at the end titles (at least as for now), but it's still possible (and very likely) it will be used somewhere else too.
I think it'll fit great for the ending credits
Or if you decided to keep that scene maybe that'll be what Dallas is lstening while sitting all alone in Narcissus ? ;) :D
That particular scene is hard to do, because it has music in central channel along with dialogue. I don't know if I'll be able to re-score it.
Lucky for me, approximately 80-90% of the movie doesn't have that problem.
Well, it's your edit. Do what you think is best for it. It's not like I'll suddenly lose all interest if you decide to not put it there

One of the DVD releases includes the production audio minus the music as an extra audio track.
20th anniversary edition.
This comparison ---> https://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=6 lists only:
- Audio commentary by director Ridley Scott,
- Isolated music score,
- Alternate music score (i've found info about "Alternate music and production sound" but it still says "music" ).
I've never before heard about the track without music (on this or any other movie for that matter), but it would be very helpful, so if there's any evidence that it really exists...
It features alternate music, not no music, but from memory there's less throughout the film. I don't recall if the Dallas scene features just production audio, or an alternate track.
Would be worth your time to find it if you can. Ripley talking to Ash about MUTHUR is an entirely different conversation in that version than the finished film for example, so could give you some interesting options.
I've bought that DVD and it turns out that Dallas scene has exactly what I need - dialogue and no music :) Now the captain can listen to anything I choose.

How about Deep Purple Child in Time ;)
I like the gringhouse movies and this an Alien one looks keen. Th emusic is before my time, but it looks like old movie from the 70s
Well, technically it is "old movie from 70s" ;)
Here's a little tease, a screenshot from the alternate ending:
(https://thumbs4.imagebam.com/fb/b2/08/ME7R33Y_t.png) (https://www.imagebam.com/view/ME7R33Y)
Also, I've just invented whole new subplot for this version ;D
EDIT:
Here's, a little clip:
https://vimeo.com/676600562
I see now! ;D It is like "noir"? It has a filter taht makes it look old and dirty. That fits Alien.
"noir" is something else (also "retro" but not the same thing), but yeah, grindhouse should look old and dirty. Also, this means that it's more like a B-movie, more campy & not that serious. And that is exactly the goal here.
PS. and a poster:

Almost finished. Running time is 110 mins, over 90% of the movie is re-scored with music by...
Spoiler
Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Gene Page, Alan Hawkshaw, Nostromo (!), Bruno Nicolai, Antonio Valotti, Kate Nash, Christopher Gunning, Tangerine Dream, Roy Budd, Slick, Lew Stern, James Canwell, The Rolling Stones, Riz Ortolani, Gerald Sampler, The Heavy, Grand Funk, Libra, Pat Benatar, Robert Smart, Billy Squier, Claude Vasori, Lenny Kravitz, David Bowie and Michael Jackson.
I've just done end credits for this version with Black & white photos put underneath the credits, now all I need to do is rebuilding some missing sfx.
I've used that alternate audio from 20th anniversary DVD for several scenes, thanks guys for pointing that out, it was quite useful.

Would like to check this out when finished
No problem :)
Certainly curious to see myself too.
During rebuilding audio I've got a new idea - so I added couple of dialogue lines for Ripley taken from different movies with Sigourney Weaver :>
Also, couple of new shots created for the ending based on Alien:Isolation videos. When a layer of heavy grain is put on top of them, they look quite cinematic.
Any volunteers to be current workprint's test audience? :)

Anyone know where can I find it motion tracker sound from Alien (not Aliens), or at least some sound close to it? (Isolation motion tracker sound isn't close enough).
I couldn't get clean version from the movie audio (there's always music in the background).
This is a long shot but could that sound effect appear in a menu screen of one of the many dvd or Blu-ray releases?
I've found something similar enough on blu-ray menu, thanks for that advice :)
Anyone can tell what's the source of the shot from 2:20 here:
is it present on Anthology set?

Hi
Gieferg. Yes, that bit of footage is present on the Alien Anthology set. It's featured on one of the
Alien enhancement pods. The '
James Cameron Dissects Alien' one :)
Thanks :)
I've missed that and that's very cool shot.

Yes that's were it is
Just included it in updated version of Star Beast edit.
Ooh, and how would one go about seeing this edit?
Looks like I got some nice reviews here and there (https://ifdb.fanedit.org/star-beast-alien-grindhoused/), even if some things turned out to be quite divisive (especially certain song choices). But one needs to have a specific approach to begin with, to digest it properly, that's for sure. Some people just don't really get grindhouse, or they expect this to be something totally serious just like original movie... which it is not. Some other may consider it to be some kind of sacrilege, but it looks like there is quite a lot of those, who enjoyed it :D
A little bonus.
