Who's to say that Weyland-Yutani doesn't buy their ships from another company just like they buy their androids from Hyperdyne?

So what they should have made the space station look like nothing seen before in Alien and then it would be authentic? I can just imagine the bitching if that was the case.

Frankly I think this is hands down one of the best looking games I've seen, and the attention to detail is great.

I also have kind of mixed feeling now we have that pic of the Aien going through the door. From the article it seems clear that they actually did try the original legs, and then decided, and I'm reading between the lines here, based on the movement, I.e. having to crouch down all the time, that the legs needed to change.

Now I get that, because this way the Alien can stay more upright by bending its legs, however I can't help but feel if they had made it shorter then they would not have needed to do this. Ultimately if they deliver everything they are promising then I doubt I will even notice in the game. I do wonder if they have a reason for it's increased size.

The kitchen must be part of a Seegson Co. 'Decent Food' Kitchen SetĀ®, clearly. :p

Actually, I thought about both the modular and "functionally best with means available through different vendors things" before i posted initially and for ships again it probably wouldn't be an issue, but it really doesn't track at all for a space station with "thousands" of people on it at all, especially if the Sevastopol is supposed to be a commercial pass through. It simply doesn't work. Space station with triple or quadruple Nostromo's area with 30 or 50 people with/and assorted droids?

Sure. Actually makes sense. What CA has described the station as being so far?

Not even kinda remotely, unless again all we've seen is YOUR ship or another docked with the station itself. (All the glamor shots have WY logos so that somewhat tracks)

They've actually rather clearly shown the bridge (a bridge), and it's identical. Again this could be your ship or another ship, maybe the ship that recovered the black box to begin with, but it sure as hell doesn't look like any kind command center designed to control the logistics of "thousands" of people on a "trading station".

Everything we've seen so far simply looks exactly like the Nostromo with some double wide sections (for through traffic, one assumes).

The engines are Yutani.

Just ranks up there with identical layout and demarcation by an apparent rival company with no apparent litigation or standardization issues, and having a refinery shaped space station (that apparently doesn't have a refinery on it), cause space stations and ships are totally the same thing.

ala how this:

and this

are structurally and functionally identical

unless you're spending all your time on the Torrens, which is also curiously identical.

It's really not all that hard to believe though, in this instance.  Both the Nostromo, a space ship, and the Sevastopol, a space station, require similar tech to keep them running in space.  There's going to be a lot of differences; I don't expect the Sevastopol to have the Nostromo's bridge (though similar architecture may be present in some parts) and obviously the Sevastopol doesn't have any engines.  But there's nothing wrong with what we've seen so far - hallways, mess halls, and airlocks that would be shared across both pieces of hardware operating in space.

I believe the magazine said that the developers took note of the different decks of the Nostromo (the padded hallways, the grungey ones with all the pipes and ladders, and the sterile flavor of the medical bay), and crafted a few new deck "archetypes" of their own for the Sevastopol.  So we'll have more to look forward to.

Eh, corridors and rooms looking similar / identical are easy to pass off -- mass manufactured, not strictly made by WY, etc. Third party company makes your interiors, you buy the bits you want and slap it together. From memory only the engines were from either Weylan or Yutani according to Cobb's notes, so there's not much saying Chumpco Space Vessel Interiors, Inc. aren't behind the rest of it.

"We weren't sure about the skull, but it was on the original suit and it was important to keep those details."

"Man in a suit? f**k that, we gave it digitigrade legs and jacked it up to 10 feet!"

Um.

Man, I am SO hyped for this now. Absolutely impressive read. These guys are going to nail it, and it makes me wish they would remake that abomination we got last year so we could get the definitive ALIENS experience, too.

I understand where they're coming from in changing the leg design, but I don't understand their reasoning for increasing the Alien's size to 9.5 feet tall. It's unnecessary. 8 feet tall is already huge, it's what's been established, and the Aliens have never been portrayed as big as they're suppose to be in games before. Now we got CA coming along and taking things in the opposite direction and making them too big.

The latest issue of theĀ Official Playstation Magazine UK is featuring a 12-page article on Alien: Isolation. Click on the image below to find new behind-the-scenes details about Sega and Creative Assembly’s new survival horror game.

“(…) One of the first things we did was make the [Alien] 9-10ft tall. From that we were like, 'well, a 9-10ft tall bloke isn't going to be able to walk around this space that's designed for 6ft humans in a very convincing way.' We ended up iterating on the actual physiology in the alien, so it kind of could work in that space. We built an alien that physically can't work, and that informs how the thing moves, and how the creature chooses to behave.”
