Title: Prometheus 2 Is Next For Ridley Scott
Post by: Corporal Hicks on Aug 27, 2015, 08:26:08 AM

With his latest science-fiction film, The Martian, due out at the end of September, Ridley Scott and Matt Damon are making the press rounds to promote the upcoming film. In an interview with Empire, Ridley Scott mentions that his next film is Prometheus 2 and he is currently location scouting:

“They faced another challenge when the film's release date was brought forward. But according to Damon, the typically fast-working Scott didn't worry. "Ridley was done with the movie about two weeks after we shot!" he smiles. "I was already on to my next movie!" adds Scott. "I was starting to look for locations for my next movie, which is Prometheus 2." Back to space so soon?”

Ridley Scott has confirmed that he is working on Prometheus 2 next. Alien: Covenant: One Year Later - AvP Galaxy Podcast #68

Ridley Scott has confirmed that he is working on Prometheus 2 next.

This news make it sound quite likely that Prometheus 2 will have started shooting by January 2016 as previously reported.  In May of 2014 it was reported that Ridley Scott had been in Australia scouting for locations. In terms of actual story there is still very little we know but keep checking back here for the latest news. Thanks to Scified for the news.

Yeah, Baby!  Bring it...  'Prometheus 2' has the potential to offer so much new content.   The first film was a little lack luster, but the fresh approach to this Universe is still very, very attractive.

Looking forward to this.

As long as Prometheus 2 has a solid script behind it I'll be happy.

Alright now this is new that I can get behind. Already awaiting the epic trailers.

Still I can't help but laugh at that picture.

Hope it's actually representative of the film!

Yea, of course but those trailers really got the blood pumping. However I was wondering, are they going with the same creature guys or not?

I can't even remember who did Prometheus. Was it WETA?

I think so but I meant the actual person who created the creatures. Neville Page and Carlos Huante?

Yeah, that's correct.

Here's an interview with Carlos - http://www.avpgalaxy.net/website/interviews/carlos-huante/

Neal Scanlan too.

My mate works for a company in LA that installs editing suites and has often set stuff up for Scott.
I remember him saying in May that Scott was on his way back from somewhere (i think it might have been Jordan) so he was probably location scouting for Prometheus2 .

There was also talk of Australia in May last year.

The outdoor parts of The Martian was shot in the Wadi Rum Valley in Jordan. Likely just re-shoots/pick-ups for that film.

That said, parts of Prometheus 1 were also shot there.

I'm glad we got an actual quote from Scott this time. Hopefully from here on out the trickle of information remains mostly factual. The last three years of baseless rumors has gotten pretty trying.

I got my wires crossed, he had just told me that Ridley was working on the sound mix to The Martian in Twickenham.

In that clip below Ridley say's he's scouting in Australia. Very interesting! Will Paradise be a wasteland filmed in the outback or a super lush place rich with life filmed in a rainforest? Can't wait for that "fantasy" film he's making anyway.

When did Martian finish shooting? The Australia scouting was reported last year.

Prometheus 2 (Paradise?) is a "fantasy" now?

Perhaps Sir Ridley is going to to tie Legend to the Alien/Prometheus canon? Darkness is a mutated fallen Engineer imprisoned inside the virtual unicorn memory-maker machine from Blade Runner.

Seems like filming finished in roughly early March of this year!
The Australia scouting reports dropped in March of last year, however Ridley mentions Australia again in that clip on page one of this thread.

Unless David and Shaw end up in hypersleep or due to some time dilation, Morse wont be born yet.

I'm super excited for this. I'm reminded how much I like the idea of uncharted territory.
PARADISE, if it is still titled as such, will hopefully hold its ground and push the doors open in another direction. What I don't want to see is just a film that explains Prometheus. I'd like to be able to connect some dots but still feel that it was progressive in its own right.
Something I think is largely overlooked, but well documented, regarding the re-writes of Prometheus, is that a lot of prep and design work had already been done, which in a lot of ways boxed in the rewrite. For instance, the ship being called Magellan. Great. They could re-title the ship but they still had to use the constraints of its existence in the film.
This time around, it seems like the script is already tight and fastened before the design work began. Meaning, whatever rewrites they made, were possible from the ground up.

Paradise was the codename for Prometheus 1.

Thank you! As for the article, I'm a big fan of Prometheus. I think perhaps Scott will answer a few things off from the first one. If so, I'm excited to find out.

Morse should get his own TV series (separate canon from Prometheus and Blomkamp's Alien5). I picture him as a kind of gonzo cyberpunk underground journalist running around on future Earth and throughout the colonies. Shades of Spider Jerusalem from Transmetropolitan.

ALIENS: Morse's Code

The first big story arc could be "Star Beast" following his investigations into W-Y and the xenomorphs.

Maybe a collaborative production between Fox and the BBC. Get some of the UK's top sci-fi TV writing talent involved (Doctor Who, Black Mirror for example).

ALIENS: Morse's Code

But the opening screen title must start off as "Alien: -- --- .-. ... . -.-. --- -.. ." and then morph into letters.

Freaking brilliant The Eighth Passenger!

You know, the more I think about it, the more this Morse Code TV show spin-off makes sense. It could work as a separate Alien 3 story thread divergent from Blomkamp's upcoming post-Aliens sequel. It wouldn't need Ripley since by Alien 3's story progression she wouldn't show up until Resurrection 200 or so years later.

It would allow Fox to give the Alien 3 camp their own thing while Blomkamp does his thing. Everyone wins (as long as both Blomkamp's movie and this show were good).

Nobody in Fox is seriously interested in 'Alien 3' (aside from continuity purposes, which now might go out of the window) and if people are seriously making age-related digs at Weaver, you really would have to apply expensive de-aging to Danny Webb for each episode.

http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/news-photo/danny-webb-attends-the-uk-premiere-of-a-little-chaos-at-news-photo/469604450

And as 'Alien Resurrection' dialogue effectively tells us there are no publicly known events where the actual creatures would show up, the viewing figures would be very low.

Morse could go off on his own expedition out to the colonies looking for answers much like Amanda Ripley in Isolation. He'd also look to uncover other shady aspects of Weyland-Yutani. This spin-off wouldn't have to focus only on the aliens. There could be other story threads like the Auton synthetics, general synthetic revolts, Prometheus related elements.

I agree that there probably isn't much interest in this sort of thing among the powers that be at 20th Century Fox. I just thought it could be a fun spin-off. If not a TV series, maybe a novel or comic book. If it did happen as a TV series I would guess they would cast a younger actor now to portray Morse. He's not nearly as iconic as Sigourney Weaver's Ripley. Hey, if Sarah Connor can be recast then Morse probably can be too.

When does Morse get released from prison to go on expeditions? He's a lifer, right? The company would debrief him and leave him to rot somewhere, I think.

Logically Morse was evaquated from Furia to another prison. That is all.

I thought he got out at some point and wrote that book about the events surrounding the alien and Ripley on Fury 161. Perhaps he cooperated with W-Y just enough to get his sentence reduced and then released? The company would want to interview him about the alien since by the end of Alien 3 he is the only living survivor of an encounter with the deadly star beast.

It also doesn't have to be Morse. A series like this could work with a new character. I always did wonder about Morse though. He was an angry guy, but potentially interesting in a spin-off along these lines. Perhaps a non-canon what if comic from Dark Horse would be the best fit for this idea.

It would be better as a graphic novel. The only reason people would watch an 'Alien'-related television show is for the creatures being involved.

And if it's just about a futuristic company's dark dealings, it might as well just be its own original property.
