How can I get an invite to this? :o Granted, it's probably going to be the same thing at Wondercon, but still. Guess Ridley is going to be having a busy day.

Are you cool with seeing tons of footage?
I'm just curious what people's perspectives are on keeping the film a mystery versus seeing as much as possible in advance? When do you feel you've crossed the line?

I'm asking your opinions to help me make up my own mind. Thanks.

They're letting us ask questions to Ridley Scott about the film via Twitter and facebook as ikarop has pointed out.  I tweeted a question asking whether Prometheus takes place in the same universe as AVP or whether or not it's in an alternate universe.  This is a highly controversial question and though I probably won't get chosen, it would be nice if Ridley Scott were to finally clear the issue up.

they dont strike me as a good team. :p im also very curious in what way Ridley was thinking of the movie when he made the script or story by  his self and what influence Lindelof brought to the script/movie? did he really made it better or made it worse did they change a lot etc?
And we can find out when it will be released.

OK I'm a bit confused. This will be the "first screening" of the trailer and the whole event will be streamed live on the web? So what, we'll get a camera feed filming a screening of the trailer followed by questions?

Will the trailer itself then be widely available in cinemas and online then? Or will we just have some lo-res version from this feed?

And when they say "exclusive footage" how can that then be a trailer that becomes widely available? Or is it going to be more like the highly secretive Comic-Con stuff?
???

I wonder if they'll have any news on the film rating at Wondercon along with the new theatrical trailer??  I know the rating has been a bit taboo - then again, they may wait until a little closer to the release date.

Scott has stated he has a responsibility to the studio and that Tom Rothman is pushing for PG-13/12A, scott has stated he has shot a hard cut and a PG-13/12A cut of the film. It's not just blood and gore or profanity which lead to the final rating it's the tone alongside the intensity too. Tom Rothman and his execs will visit the set during production, and if they want something painted lighter or a certain feature obscured, so it appears more family friendly, they can demand set changes as they did with xmen origins wolverine, because they're worried it won't apply to the masses or give the ratings board a headache, if fox are pushing for a PG-13/12A. What i'm saying is it wouldn't be that difficult to tone the film down from an R/15 to a PG13/12A, digitally remove the blood/gore (even though Lindeloff has stated prometheous will not be as gory as the alien films), edit out the nastiest scenes or shorten them, and take out the nastiest profanity, it's not that difficult to do, and i wouldn't be surprised if they spring us with the PG-13/12A surprise very soon. But believe me, i would much prefer to see a harder cut in the cinemas of prometheus, so fingers crossed and let's see what happens.

unfortunately, if they think they can make more money with a PG-13 theatrical release and an R-rated directors cut for the DVD instead of R-rated theatrical release AND dvd, yes, they have done it or have demanded things done in post-production like that

I think ThisBethesdaSea meant that the rating (e.g. PG-13) is determined in editing / post-production.  There is no way that studio execs would be marching around Ridley's sets, during production, demanding he physically change something...except in the scenario where that "something" had a negative impact on the budget.

You guys should look up the production problems Gavin Hood experienced with Tom Rothman on the set of X men origins, even though the script wasn't the greatest from the outset, if you could call it a script lol, Tom Rothman demanded a change in the script, he was constantly clashing with Gavin Hood over creative differences and stated that tone of the film was too dark and he didn't like the colour the sets we're painted, Gavin Hood was away from the set for a few days, when he had come back, Tom Rothman had ordered all the sets be re-painted in Hoods absence, Gavin wasn't very happy as he had this vision and wanted to shoot a dark moody film. Then Hugh Jackman was called back and they had to do alot of reshoots, including some of the fight scenes, and the addition of the adamantium bullet being shot into logans head by Stryker was added too, the weapon X transformation was changed too. So just be aware these things happen, and thats why i'm dubious with fox at times, look it up, there's a few archived reports of the onset problems lying around online where hood and jackman admit to creative differences with Tom Rothman but try and brush it under the carpet, but no one was falling for it.

I'm sure these things happen, in fact, I know they do. But this isn't a new and up and coming director, this is Ridley Scott, a seasoned director who Fox nearly pleaded with to direct this film. This just wouldn't happen. Asking Ridley for a PG-13 edit is one thing, changing things and stepping in on set in his absence is quite another. I don't buy it (but with everything, I could be wrong).:) :)

Now I don't want this to turn into a huge debate like it has before, I'm not trying to open a can of worms andI don't know if people will agree with me here, but I think that Christopher Nolan has proved that you can make an intelligent movie with an adult tone that can also be suitable for a younger audience.
Tone wise I think The Dark Knight and Inception are for adults. They don't have swearing and graphic violence but they are still decent. The Dark Knight has some problems with it's story telling I think but I'm talking about TONE and it gets that right.
So PG13/ 12's/15's or not, Ridley will hopefully get the tone down, that will be half the work done.

The fact is, FOX can do whatever they want with this film, it's their franchise and they are paying for it, or why would there even be a debate about this PG-13 rating in the first place, Scott being allowed to make his own version for DVD says it all! The only thing Rothman is interested in is putting bums on seats, it's also worth mentioning he's messed with Scott before, but he sees things from a financial point of view. Understandable, since the studio have reportedly spent over $100 million on this film and they need a good return, but at the end of the day, what may ruin it for fans like us matters little when it comes to selling Prometheus to the masses, and if Rothman has to make sweeping changes to achieve that, he'll do it.

Yes that is indeed true Roary.

There's a lot that can go potentially belly up with this movie. I just read a critique of Body Of Lies (which was on tv during the week) in the paper and it mentioned how you'd expect it to be good with heavy weights like Russell Crowe and DiCaprio in it, yet "The director here churns out a disappointingly hackneyed espionage thrill" with a miscast DiCaprio. And I think that's a fair point. American Gangster was similar in that it didn't hit the height it could of because Ridley just sort of scraped the surface with the character depth.

So I think I need to try and perhaps be careful with Prometheus expectations. I mean I'm not expecting an amazing movie. I'm hoping for a good one and perhaps a wonderful surprise if it turns out to be amazing. The best hope that we have for it is Ridley's enthusiasm in that he had a great time making it. Hopefully Science Fiction is STILL his true calling.

Yahoo is holding an event on March 17 as well. Their Q&A is with Fassbender and Theron.

The new trailer will be live right after the Q&A so we shouldn't need to record it. I'm trying to schedule my days events around the new trailer and Q and A thing. How sad is that! Ha :). :)

Yes that is indeed true Roary.
And I think that's a fair point. American Gangster was similar in that it didn't hit the height it could of because Ridley just sort of scraped the surface with the character depth.

http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110628013436/icarly/images/8/8a/Unbelievable.gif

american gangster didn't hit the height? i can understand when people don't like body of lies that much, (but for me it's a solid agent-flick) but comparing it with american gangster and than saying it has the same flaws?  ???

you know what been scraping the surface? if ridley decided to do a italian-mafia-flick instead of what we have now.

blasphemy.

I just think that in American Gangster they tried to create this illusion of depth for a mainstream audience. On one hand he's a dealer and on the other he's good to his mother. oooooooohhhhhhhhh such depth.

I think it's an ok movie, but it could be much much better.

Well, I found out how to get an invite to the Q&A--you have to be a member of AMC's Movie Rewards program. Which, like a bull in a china shop I just went and rampaged for. Will have to wait and see if an invite comes my way--probably too late >:/ If so, twelve bucks down the drain, alas :P

Fingers crossed we'll see some detailed footage of the engineer and scott will shed some more light on how prometheus is related to alien besides our old geezer the space jockey, and maybe we'll find out more about the cockpits purpose in the derelict, even if it's tidbits because obviously they won't give the profound stuff away lol, it's just nice to see the viral advertising taking shape, and the cast and crew giving Q & A sessions, fassbender really does seem a down to earth top guy.

Apparently we who are going to WonderCon are the first to see the new trailer shown in 3D. 8) Can't wait to see how Ridley has used the format. There may be some other exclusive footage shown, as well--if that's the case, then it's bad news for people hoping we can sneak some pics: seeing as it's 3D, those snapshots we take are going to be fuzzy and borderline useless :P

You could equip your cams with some polarising foil from some older 3D-glasses ;)
But don't forget this will mess with the shutter speed on automatic cameras, so better crank it up a bit.

On an earlier note there is a lot of documentation that Tom Rothman hates being in charge of anything to do with X-Men.  There is tons on it out there.  I can see him doing a lot of those things just to screw with the director and franchise because he loathes it.  Hell, even look at how little hype there was around "X-Men:First Class".  I had no idea it was coming out at all, and I am a guy that is at the comic store every wed. morning picking up my new books [comics ship on wed. in Canada]

I can't see Fox treating Ridley Scott the same way, I can see them giving him a bit more freedom over his vision and doing the edits later.  Though, with how his last few movies have performed at the box office, maybe they will have him under more restraints.

You've gotta have an AMC Stubs card (it costs $12), and then you have to email one of their customer service people. Not sure if there are any spaces left. Oddly enough, if anyone here remembers when we were all in a tizzy over that rumored PROMETHEUS screening? That's the site I ended up getting my passes through.

Just got an email from AMC inviting me to the screening...again... so it looks like there are more seats left!

Trailer just played. Very intense looking. Shaw appears to decode a message found on an archeological dig on earth, thinks it's an invitation from our "gods" to meet them out there beyond space. She was wrong apparently. Glimpses of Space Jockey stalking crew. Scary stuff. More details to come. Panel in progress (with special guests Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender!!).

I suddenly feel very strange about posting how stupid it would be for the jockey to be stalking the crew in the ship like a horror film months ago...

Trailer also featured scenes of something growing out of one of those urns, something slimy that David seems to take interest in. There are a few quick shots of the Jockey, mostly from a distance. He's huge and his body had a shiny wet sheen, very biomechanical in appearance but definitely humanoid. There's a scene in a cave or maybe the Ampule room where a crewmember shines a flashlight across a wall with stylized sculpture of what appeared to be a Xenomorph.

This would lend a huge amount of credibility to a "leak" from months and months ago which said;
"I have witnessed foam cut outs of unmistakable aliens all cut in half lengh ways so they could be in the floor walls etc and very much from the original film."

Can't remember what else was said in that particular leak, I'm sure it's in the timeline sticky thread under a spolier tag...
