After a few months of work, AvPGalaxy Version 8 is now live. Given that it's Aliens 35th Anniversary in a few months time, I've based it around Hadley's Hope. A lot of the code has been reworked, there's improvements to the mobile theme. The biggest change is I've redone the Gallery and it's now a mosaic sort of layout. There's still a few improvements I need to make to it.
Forum Themes
With regards to the forum themes, you still have the old ones but you can't select any of them anymore. If you change to the Default theme, you won't be able to go back to these. Regarding the two very old default themes, you still have them for now but they really should be removed. For those two, if you haven't logged in for a month, you'll be reset to the new default theme. I know I've been saying this for years but at some point, I really want to remove all those themes altogether.
I'm going to redo all the old forum themes for Subscribers only. I know some people still like different themes. It's just a long process creating them which puts me off doing it. It's taken me months to do the new default theme so I expect it will take the same for new ones.
It looks really nice, but where's the 'Unread Posts' button gone?
That's the first thing I ever click on as it allows me to see everything that's been added since my last visit.
EDIT
Ignore me. I found it!
Lookin' good. 8)
Not doing a new post for it?
I will. Still fixing all the little bugs first.
Looks great. You guys are doing a great work with this site. Thank you a lot!
Looks great, good job Darkness!
Awesome job guys, needed an update.
Also need the next podcast, need it bad :D ;D
I love the new look.
Not gonna lie, the new font for the top kinda looks like the Battlestar Galactica font, which is not a bad thing by any means.
Where is it? Otherwise looks great.
Still no way for regular forum members to embed Twitter posts? It looks like the new version actually removed the ability to embed Facebook posts.
Yeah, twitter and facebook embeds still work fine.

Your Twitter link isn't embedded on my end. FB embeds are working for me now.
It's usually because you've got the link wrong and added the ?s to the end of it.
My older posts with embedded FB links were broken just a while ago. I didn't edit them, but suddenly they're working fine after I mentioned it here. I can see the Twitter posts embedded by Hicks, but not yours. Yours just looks like a hyperlink to me.

Does that show up as embedded on your end? It doesn't on mine.
EDIT: Turns out it's a browser thing. The embedded Tweet shows up in Chrome and Edge, but not Firefox.

I've thought it was stylised to look like Predator hieroglyphics

Have you got the container thing on? I find that stops them showing up.
Loving the new look, Darkness! Thanks for the huge work getting this up for the New Year!
Agreed! You did an amazing job, Darkness! 👏
New site isn't working properly for me. I get this long list/menu of blue text on a white background and then it takes me half an hour to scroll down to the forum section. No images or logos visible.
The forum section itself seems to be working fine except now I see double avatars on all the posts, and that's without even having had a drop to drink. :-\
What browser are you using?

Chrome.
But did you just do something on your side because now it's working 100% for me.
I tried logging in and out and clearing the browser cache to no avail, but now it just started working fine by itself. The forum format is also back to normal, it was using the whole wide screen expanse earlier today. Avatars also back to one only per post.
Nice work, fellas.
Happy New Years everyone! I lurk more than I post but have been with the site here quite a long time. Cheers!
Remember how embedded images would automatically fit in a post and then you just had to click on it to view it at full size? I think we lost that feature.
For some reason the new layout is making the comments garbled on my iPhone 7; specifically the "posted by..." text is overlapping with the comment itself.
I'm digging the new look.

Well, looking at comments on mobile, looks like the first three or four words overlap in a string.

It's still working for me. It's a bit different now, when you click on the image to enlarge it, it pops-up full screen and the background gets greyed-out. You can then zoom in even further if the image resolution is larger than your screen.
Actually works much better now because you don't have to scroll the image around within the confined forum borders.

Yeah, that has been changed because it never really worked properly before. Now, it opens in a fancy window like the gallery images. When you open that window, look to the top right corner and you can use the magnify glass to zoom in or download it.
Comments overlapping on mobile have been fixed now.

That's not working on Firefox.
Works fine on Firefox for me.
Edit: This is for default theme only.
Ah. Fair enough. Yeah, I've been on Giger's theme for yonks!
So the new mobile version has crashed my phone...
What phone/browser was it? Where you on the forum or the main site?
Forum, phone is an old Galaxy using Chrome, genuinely not sure what model since it's so old. It tends to struggle with a few sites, but loading the new forum for the first time made it crash so hard it reset. Hasn't done it again, but scrolling seems "sticky" and it doesn't like the buttons. So just a heads up that antique phones may not like it.
Darkness is there a way to check or bookmark a topic to refer back to it? At times I can't find a topic with the search option I was reading. Guessing it may be a subject that was derailed in a thread it wasn't intended. Thanks in advance.
Yes, the closest thing would be the Notify option. Though if you didn't want to be notified of replies, you can disable that. But you could still see the list of your favourite threads if you go to Modify Profile -> Notifications.
I have a question: when I hold my phone horizontally to type a reply a whole word or two can hide behind the "arrow" button that allows to instantly scroll to the top of the page (for instance, how word "that" did while I was typing that) - can something be done about it ? It's a little annoying at times if I'm being honest and my thick fingers weren't really made to type vertically.
Thanks in advance
I'll move it to the right corner out of the way.
Thanks ;)
Just a potential suggestion, it would be great if you could add a feature that isolated our own posts in a thread, so we can look through them much faster.
Query, will mobile show these changes? I mean I only see themes if I hold my phone horizontal, not vertical.
That's just the way mobile's setup.
