Interesting news about the reshoots. Not entirely surprising though, reshoots are very normal these days.
It's far more unusual if a big budget film doesn't have some degree of reshoots.
It's only really concerning when those reshoots make up a large portion of the film. Doesn't seem to be the case here as we would have heard about unrest behind the scenes from some source somewhere.
Maybe they're shooting scenes with a Russell Crowe or Cate Blanchett type because seriously where is this film's Charlize Theron!!!?
It will be minor work to tidy up editing issues and other anomalies. Maybe add some additional dialog for some scenes. It won't be anything major.

Friend who works for the company producing the movie posters has a hard deadline of mid-December, so assuming nothing is pushed back ya'll can look forward to that.
Thanks for the news, 8th. Just getting this up on the front page. :)
And up. :)
I don't think it's anything to worry about. It's common practice. I know they've had a cut of Covenant ready and tested so it's likely to fix any issues that have cropped up.

Thanks for the intel, Chris. Didn't I mention we'd likely be getting a poster same time as the trailer (within the next couple of months)? :P
I always feel a twinge of jealousy when I know they've screened a cut of a new RIdley Scott movie that will never, ever be seen by everyone else, and most of them don't care. Hicks, do you know if this was an audience of regular folk, or just the studio? If regular folk, then somebody, somewhere might start talking...
They've screened for studio and public. You wont get anyone from the public screenings talking though - they have to sign NDAs.
That's very exciting. I'm sure these are the good kind of reshoots - honing and enhancing.
Which reminds me: do we know who the editor is, yet? Scalia, I assume?
Unconfirmed but I would have assumed so.
@Protozoid yeah if they are two movies i would have loved to watched a pre-screening for would have been Blade Runner and Legend 1985, both those movies suffered from cuts and changes and stuff.
I'm feeling a teaser by New Years time Maybe a Green band clip before Rogue One or Passengers. Assassin's Creed and A Cure for Wellness would be good bets too for the first teaser.

I like you already... Welcome the family. 8)
Was to be expected, so Im not too worried.
Would love to be in a Testing group, they should have asked people from here to do it lol
Nothing to worry about guys. Peter Jackson had massive reshoots for the Two Towers and Return of the King.
That's literally 5 minutes down the road from me.

It's very unusual for Scott to do re-shoots.

Peter Jackson is one of the most overrated directors in history of cinema ;).
Depends if they're actual reshoots or just pickup shots. Huge difference.

Worth a read for anyone worrying.
QuoteEven the term reshoots isn't particularly accurate. A reshoot seems to indicate that a particular shot has to be captured again. More likely, when assembling a cut of the picture in question, the director has noticed that a scene could use an extra shot or two here and there, or perhaps some more dialogue, just to add clarity. In some instances, a fresh scene or two might be needed, for similar reasons. That's, though, pick-up work, rather than an outright reshoot. Extra shooting might be a more appropriate phrase.
Like I said! :P
Alien had pickup shots. Most studio productions do. They miss little things that screw with the edit to not have.

Just providing some back-up. :P It's really going to depend on the nature of the additional footage. The problem is people tend to just automatically go ut-oh when they hear reshoot. Even then, if it is genuine reshoots, we're that far off release that it's not a real problem. They have plenty of time to actually get it sorted so it's not like they'd be close-to-the-wire panic reshoots.
Odds are it's just pickups. Like SiL says, they're common. The Martian had additional footage shot as well.
Wasn't the Isle of Skye scene in prometheus part of a re-shoot/pick up shot as well?

Yeah. That was shot in January, after principle photography.
I m more worried about composer story than reshoots.
Cant wait to hear who will compose the music.
Eliot would be perfect fit or Jóhannsson (but I think he is too busy).
It could be additional footage, for the extra material Alan Dean Foster is writing, they have decided to shoot some of it, even though probably unlikely. It could also maybe Fox want Ridley to tone the films violence down a little, nowadays, studios consult with the ratings boards during production and post production, so ot may be down to that.
Shit! I live two mins from the studios!!!!

Surely that would be done in editing and wouldn't require a reshoot or pickup shot.
I heard Damon Lindelof was hired to have a look at the script just before the reshoots started happening.

Yeah, should be easy to fix in editing just by cutting away the more egregious scenes.

Story I heard from my secret sauce is that they have also hired Michael Bay because the studio wasn't happy with the quality of explosions and the slow pace of the film.

Is there any confirmation of which actors are present for reshoots??
Quote from: DaveT937 on Nov 18, 2016, 03:02:42 PMWhere do you live HuDa??
Village called Chipperfield, near Kings Langley if you know it. About 6 miles from the studio.
I live close to there, security has probably tighten to prevent any leaked photos from popping online
Plus if it's just reshoots and pick-ups, I imagine it will all be interior stuff. Coupled with the fact the site is open to the public because of the Harry Potter thing, I can't see them leaving anything interesting out where it's visible.
I'm sure no-one will see anything down there. It's going to be well outside the public view.
Pretty standard stuff, if I have one concern (well there are a potential few but I'll stick to one) it would be the couples on board the Covenant, here's hoping there's nothing sentimental scripting wise when it comes to that element; they should be characterised as almost at wits end, with the tumultuous effects of space travel taking a heavy toll; low morale, cynical, but sardonic, likable, and upon arrival at "paradise" colour returns to their hearts...A glimmer of hope!
And...IT'S GONE lol
Now I wish we had a trailer, because I dig it when they do reshoots after a trailer's been cut and we get extra footage no one has seen, like we did in the Prometheus trailers, and Alien 3 trailers. Of course, its still possible that this will happen just because of cuts.
Speaking of all that, does anyone think we will get to see those scenes from Prometheus we never got to see. Specifically, the scene where Fifield is attacking during Weyland and Shaw's trip to meet the Engineer?
It would be cool to see the original cut of Prometheus before Pietro Scalia restructured it. The reshoots and recuts on Prometheus were kind of radical, and I'm still not sure they improved the movie. It moves faster, but I'm not convinced by Scalia's reasoning - that it keeps the focus on Shaw. Um, removing her from a scene that you then intercut with her most important moment does not strengthen her character at all. Neither did the Isle of Skye sequence or the scene where Shaw and Janek have a quick discussion about the goo before the climax. Both of those slowed down the pacing, for me, and are both rather sloppily written and edited compared to the rest of the film. After watching Prometheus several dozen times, the reshoots stand out like a sore thumb.
I'm not saying they ruined the film, but I would really like to see the original cut someday, and I hope that Scott learned not to let Scalia do anything too drastic to Covenant; attuned filmgoers can sense when the editing has stretched coherency too far, and Prometheus was right at that edge. I'd like to see the original cut of Prometheus without the reshoots or restructuring, but I doubt that cut will ever be released. More likely an extended cut, or nothing at all. Crossing my fingers that Fox will announce a new Prometheus edition for next year...
I'd be very surprised if 'PROMETHEUS' doesn't get re-released next year. The inevitable box set with all 'ALIEN' movies will also hit shelves. The problem with so many iterations of these things on DVD and BluRay is the market is in decline and let's face it, most fans of these movies will already have them.
In order to make these movies attractive to us again, say, for me to purchase another copy of 'PROMETHEUS' - a movie that I half like and also half dislike - it's got to include some form of incentive. At this point, the BluRay copy I have is enough but if a new and different version of the movie comes out sometime next year then I'd probably buy it.
Do I think this is likely to happen? Of course I do! Each of the previous 'ALIEN' movies have had alternate editions released. I see 'PROMETHEUS' as no different in this regard. Sure, I know Scott said that he considered the theatrical release to be the definitive version but I don't think that his declaration will stand in the way of increased sales. Ultimately it's Twentieth Century Fox' call on that one.
So yes. I believe we will eventually see an alternate cut of 'PROMETHEUS'. As to what that content will be is another matter. Fox could re-release the movie with some deleted footage restored we've already seen and market the movie as 'PROMETHEUS - Extended Edition' or maybe they go full 'ALIEN 3' on us and release what amounts to a completely different movie from the theatrical release. I'd love to see that happen. Insta buy for me, that one.

Logically Prometheus should be released theatrically on Alien Day, but I also think that when Covenant comes out there should be a showing of Prometheus before Covenant on opening night. 8)
I live in Abbots Langley, just off high street. Small world!
Drove past the studios today. A few cranes outside but nothing obvious, as you'd expect.
May try again tomorrow from a different entrance!

I often wonder if trailers are planned and edited to final copy before or after reshoots. And if content in the main film is consequently expanded to incorporate something that was specifically reshot to accentuate the trailer.
There are a lot of movie trailers that have had stuff ultimately cut from the film in them.
That's where we see a lot of the more obvious deleted scenes or alternate takes.

FOX knows better. Look at the Fantastic Four trailer vs the movie. No chance they will ever release a trailer before reshoots again.

I'd buy that. I would love to see the proper sequence with Weyland and Shaw involved in the Fifeld mutation (and it in it's real form). That movie feels so slapped together in post that there is so much to work with. Add in takes we haven't seen even on the deleted scenes real and the confrontation between Shaw and the Engineer and there is a lot of interesting leftover bits to make a new version from.
There wasn't much to see yesterday, from what I could tell. Some tarpaulin outside but could just as well be up there normally.
Ah well, roll on August next year!
Thanks for checking it out, Dave. The odds are seeing anything were always really really slim.
The original posts have been deleted now btw.
