Predator Hunting Grounds (2020) by Illfonic - PS4 and PC
"Drop into the Predator universe through a new competitive online multiplayer experience.
Play as an elite Fireteam charged to complete paramilitary operations while a Predator mercilessly hunts you. Or, BE the Predator, armed with all the deadly alien weaponry you've grown to love and pursue your prey.
The Hunt Begins 2020."

EDIT: The Playstation Blog post about it has gone up (https://blog.eu.playstation.com/2019/05/09/predator-hunting-grounds-is-coming-to-ps4-in-2020/)
Was just coming here to post this! :D I was watching State of Play and immediately recognised those drums! This really came out of nowhere!
An asymmetrical multiplayer game with one player playing as the Predator taking on a team of soldiers, aka "pretty much exactly what a Predator multiplayer game should be".
Hopefully it's better than AvP2010's "Predator Hunt" mode, both in terms of the maps and, y'know, not having to say to hell with being stealthy and just rushing in to kill whoever you could because you only had 5 seconds left until someone else got chosen to be the Predator. Either way, I'll be checking this out for sure!
I'm excited! :o
The Illfonic previously developed Friday the 13th: The Game in 2017. So probably we can expect something similar in this case.
I knew that name sounded familiar. Hopefully it's a lot less janky than Friday the 13th.
EDIT: The Playstation Blog post about it has gone up (https://blog.eu.playstation.com/2019/05/09/predator-hunting-grounds-is-coming-to-ps4-in-2020/). I like that the soldier team has to accomplish their own, non-Predator-related objectives. Definitely gives it the flavour of the original film rather than just making it a straight-up team deathmatch.
I can't lie and say I'm not bummed out it's not a big ass open-world Predator solo game, but I do like the sounds of the premise! I never really followed Friday the 13th so I'm going to have to have a gander to see how that went down.
I'm 100% surprised by the announcement, though! Never saw that coming!
Woooohoooooo!
I was hoping they'd adopt this concept to Predator.
Sucks for me because I'm not a multiplayer person. I guess AvP 2010 will have to keep me occupied.
I'm kinda disappointed that it isn't a single player focus game and is being done by the same company as Friday the 13th. I'm scared that this game may be either a good but short lasting game of entertainment, or it will be an all out half-assed, buggy game.
I'm hoping there's a gear aspect to this, like leveling and detailed cosmetic customization for both the predator and Marines. God I'm so excited to witness this
So, Friday the 13th game but with the Predator, okay. The fac that this is multiplayer and made by the same team as 13th does not give me much faith honestly, but could be fun if well optimized.
;D This is going to be fun but I still want a open world create your own predator monster Hunter game 🤣 loved the Friday 13th game as well great homage great fun
Well hell, it's about time! Hasn't been a Predator-specific game (as in not AvP or a cameo/guest appearance like MKX) since what, Concrete Jungle? I haven't really been interested in these games where it's just one super-powered player versus a team of weaker players with no other match types, but I'll certainly try out a Predator one. My fanatic fanboyism demands it of me.
Online multiplayer?
Pass.

I swear I said they should make a Predator game like Friday the 13th six months ago!

Very stoked about this!
I'm excited! Hopefully this isn't just a PlayStation exclusive.
Not sure how I feel about this one at all. A part of me is excited, and the other is thinking about all my worst fears of multiplayer only type games. Maybe like Friday the 13th it'll have a singleplayer mode it just won't be focused on singleplayer as much.
It would be cool if they did many themed maps to play on like The jungle from 87 predator, the preserve planet in predators, it it just going to be the jungle that was shown in the trailer as the only map to play on?
We should get Dutch as a marine preorder bonus now that would be f**king awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So can you upgrade yourself by extracting DNA from spines?
Actually, this seems really cool.
Would hope for all the different Predator skins from the movies and movie maps as well.
Does F13 have many different levels?
Looks like there are different maps (about 3) and each map comes with variations:
https://gameplay.tips/guides/622-friday-the-13th-the-game.html
3 different locations. That's really not a lot. :-\ The stale potential is real there. I really hope they go for a larger map count with HG.
The game did not have AAA title pricing though.
If they want a game to last, it needs to have the content to support regardless of price. Having a purely MP game without many maps isn't a great plan to keep players. :-\ It does look like F13 did have more planned and it got f**ked over by some licensing issues, though.
Are we getting this on top of the aliens game that's in the works? Or is this meant to be it?
As far as I know, we're still getting the Aliens game.
Excellent, I hope that will be on its way soon!
OK, the teaser has me kinda excited about this. I have F13 from PS+ but never played. Maybe should check it out to see what kind of thing we're getting.
My eyes lit up when I heard there was a new Predator game. Was hoping for a solo campaign...but I'm still open minded.
Sounds boring without a campaign mode. Wouldnt this just be reptitive
That's why it'd need some good content in the way of maps, customisation, etc. That's my worry too.

It started with 3 locations, but later downloadable content provided a fourth location, and different maps within those previous locations. Plus DLC characters and skins and such.
Then a big lawsuit took the game off the market where no one could purchase the game anymore so who knows what else would have been made available. The developers were forced to announce they were cancelling all future DLC because of that ongoing lawsuit.
Now in Friday the 13th you could also call in a playable hero. I wonder if Dutch will be this game's Tommy Jarvis! :o
You know I was just thinking, in the Friday the 13th game you could unlock different Jasons to play from different sequels.
How wild would it be if they apply the same to to their Predator game, where you can unlock the City Hunter, the Berserker, etc.
Very surprising. Never expected a standalone Predator game.
It does sound in the same vein as Friday 13th which I thought was just awful. I spent about half an hour on that when they gave us it on PS Plus. It has its fans, I guess but it got old real quickly.
But I'm glad they're doing something with the license.

Yeah, coming from a Friday 13th fan too. It was just tedious and sluggish to play. I'm not really into multiplayer only games like Destiny to start with.

Aw man it's fun as hell to me, but I dig multiplayer.
I believe Illfonic said at the time they were working on a solo single-player campaign as DLC, but that damn lawsuit squashed it. Hopefully this Predator comes with solo play out of the box.
Oh? I didn't even realise it was the same devleoper as Friday 13th, just thought it looked similar. That explains a lot.
So is this officially, only on PlayStation?
Suuuuuper stoked about this, saw Bloody Disgusting post an article about it and was taken completely by surprise.

Well F13 was supposed to have more content (at least Jason X Jason and an appropriate map for him) but the current legal battle going on with the franchise halted everything. I don't play it as much as my buddy does, but you can play as different Jason's from the different movies and each one has their own distinct weapons and abilities. Each camp counselor does as well.
It'll be really interesting to see if they go the same route with this, but on a larger scale.

I believe Sony announced it as an exclusive, so it would seem so.
I'm hoping the partnership with Sony means they have a bit more of a budget to create content. Those few screenshots of the jungle map already look more dense and detailed than any of the maps in Friday the 13th.

Friday the 13th was funded via Kickstarter, so yeah I have to believe Sony will provide a bigger budget.

Amen!
A Los Angeles meat-packing district DLC Map would be pretty sweet too.
I had some fun with F13. It has it's issues, but they clearly loved and researched the license. The biggest issue will be dedicated servers. This almost by itself made F13 not worth installing. Too many issues with hosts quitting and no host migration.
I personally enjoyed the Friday the 13th game. Despite the bugs and so forth.
So I'm psyched for this, since its been forever since we got a stand alone PREDATOR game.
I honestly wasn't expecting something like this so soon after THE PREDATOR. Glad it hasn't slowed the EU stuff, so far at least.
Oh hell yeah, Predator needed another solo game for quite a while. I'm happy to hear this, but a PS exclusive? That's a pass for me then right of the bat, I'm a PC dude, never had and probably never will have a console. This better come out on PC if they want a decent player base.

I haven't tried it myself but PS NOW is available on PC.
Playstation Now on PC https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/explore/playstation-now/ps-now-on-pc/
You'll have to purchase a USB controller and a PS Now subscription but then you'll be able to play PlayStation Exclusive Games. Since Predator will be an exclusive, I imagine it will be available through there.
Love that the soldiers will be fighting other people and doing general missions rather than just waiting for the predator. This sounds like a passion project from the devs. They could put so many predator skins in it as well.
Curious about this being third or first person. Friday was third but I'd prefer a first person view at least for the predator.
I hope it turns out good.
The director of the first predator movie is out of jail and making a sci-fi movie with uma thurman.. I think he should direct a predator movie for disney/fox.
I also like the fact the soldiers have to complete other mission objectives besides dealing with the Predator. Predator Hunt from AVP2010 was the weakest MP mode imo.
This has the potential to be a really, really good Predator game.

Gosh, those screenshots are nice. Reminds me a lot of Primal Carnage with how lush and wet it looks.
Very excited to play this!
Had no idea this was happening so I was taken by surprise. Certainly a better reveal than that Iron man game awhile back, it seems they know what players have been asking for even if it seems its not a solo Predator experience. However there does seem to be a growing shift back to singleplayer games with the lootbox thing so if this sells well enough we could see a singplayer Predator game in the future if we're optimistic. Predator is a franchise that is very much suited for videogames so this might be the best time to transition into it.
With it being a Sony exclusive I'd imagine they'd get a bigger budget. Granted it's supposed to come out next year and we got a trailer out of nowhere and not at a big game event, so this is probably on the lower end of the budget tier but it being a PlayStation exclusive does raise hopes.
If I had to speculate, I'd imagine it works similarly to F13 where you can get different Predators. I'm not sure equipment would or should translate because some Predators have some gnarly gear, but I think it overall works since all of them have the basics. I'd imagine we should expect the movie Predators to show up like Jungle Hunter (who while cloaked I'm pretty sure its that design), City Hunter, the Super Predators, and even Fugitive if it has alternate Predators. I wouldn't hold my breath for AVP not because its a crossover, but primarily because it seems this is a product aimed at the solo franchise.
I also appreciate the approach because its kind of novel. Basically having a Call of Duty match where players are trying to complete objectives on top of the Predator hunting your team down is kind of inspired. It adds to a frantic match where in the middle of it you could get people picked off and not realize it. I kind of dig that.
Yeah I'm not into this idea. I was hopeful for an adventure game like concrete jungle. Oh well.
Well this was a pleasant surprise.
I never even thought of putting predator in one of these 4v1 type of games, I imagine that balancing will be a nightmare as usual.
Since they're working with Sony directly I wouldn't hold my breath for an Xbone version, PC could happen but it would be on the Epic store like Sonys other games.
We still do not know all details about exclusivity. Is it timed exclusive or definitely platform exclusive? Who is financing the whole project? Sony maybe covers a marketing and publishing part only that can be taken as working directly. If it is not an AAA game, it may pass as a platform exclusive but if it is then that is a big blow to the other platform holders.
I say, I would wait until the end of E3 2019 and see if more news resurface about it.
Just speculations.
What is next? An Alien MMO shooter becomes Xbox/PC exclusive as an answer to it.
I just decided to check out Youtube to try and gauge the reaction to the trailer and it seems fairly positive. Near as I can tell it's got consumers excited and the like to dislike ratio is fairly positive. It seems the game has gotten a pretty good reaction out of people which is always good.
Same sort of thing on Twitter and basically boils down to the same three complaints;
1. They want it but its on PS4
2. The game is multiplayer
3. Hates that it's made by the F13 developers either being worried it'll die too early for licensing issues or it will release buggy.
Great news.
After The Predator, I didn't think we would get a stand-alone Predator game anytime soon.
I got a lot of short time fun out of the F13 game and I think the concept could work well for the Predator. If they fix the long term playability issues and smoothen out the sloppy parts that dragged the F13 one down, this could be a really fun game.

Considering The Predator was understandably trashed across social media by critics and fans alike, the $160 Million it still grossed worldwide is a huge sucess to me, especially considering other franchise relaunches like The Thing and Conan received deathblows at $27M and $48M total worldwide. Fortunately, even with perceived crap, there's still life yet to the Yautja!

This time it's not a Kickstarter funded game so hopefully they'll get more time to beta it. Hopefully they will have more time to include bells and whistles out of the box like single player campaign and not plan solo as a dlc - which got squashed when they lost the lawsuit. But yeah, this concept works great for Predator. The potential for something fantastic is there! :)
I think Predator is far easier to translate to this kind of game because the concept allows more variety than Jason did. The amount of weapons, the kinds of gadgets and the nature of the game's conflict make a match a bit more involved than simply fleeing Jason (which wouldn't work at all with Predator).
I kind of hope that the self-destruct is in this game as an added threat to the player. That even if you take the Predator down, you gotta double tap him else you got to flee the explosion. It would stop players from heading straight to the Predator since even if somebody gets lucky if they don't get the final blow they doom the whole match.

I didn't even think of the self destruct! That would really add a wild dynamic to the game!
Would be cool if the humans would be able to damage the predator's gear. So that they could weaken an careless predator player by destorying his caster or damaging his cloaking device or redering the self destruct useless.
They could also have an injured predator leave a bloodtrail until he patches himself up.

I like that. People constantly forget that the backpack isn't something the shoulder cannon just sits on or thinks it's some sort of big battery, it's actually the medical kit.
What would be cool about a bleeding mechanic is that on a nighttime map it would be critical for a Predator to not get hit since it would tell the humans immediately the Predator was shot, but if it took enough damage to bleed it could lead the humans right to the Predator. Maybe if the player loses too much health the healing takes longer and because it seems the medical instruments can cause the Predator to roar, maybe that would keep the Predators from being too active. A direct assault going badly can alert everybody to a low-health Predator.
Anybody consider armor? Because the Predators have been heavier geared before and with more armor it could affect movement. So while Predator armor could have benefits like increased protection, the armor could weigh the Predator down and affect movement speed or the clanking of the armor could alert nearby human players.

Completely agree! All good ideas there, I especially like the bloodtrail. Even more so with Ironman's idea of the nightmare map...that'd be amazing.
They would have to add the mud aspect right, so a soldier can go unseen in the Predator's thermal vision? It would probably need a time limit mechanic where it dries out after a minute or two.
Oh, that'd be awesome as well! Some good ideas coming here!
The only way this could survive is if it is like Friday the 13th game. Totally branded Predator styles and cinematics/ Cinematography otherwise it will turn out like a pile of garbage
IMO, a long term success of this game will mainly depend on flow and mechanics of game play. Everything else, no matter how good, is going to get old pretty quickly and it already has a kind of strong competitor announced on the same day which is Ghost Recon: Breakpoint that comes out on October 4, 2019.
All cool cinematics/cinematography may work in the first run for single player type of game which this one is not but P1+P2 films are still going to beat them easily.

I really like the mud and bloodtrail ideas you guys got, makes me hope they incorporate stuff like that! So if we're spitballing ideas, what would y'all think about the implementation of Vocal Mimicry? I was talking a co-worker about this game yesterday and we came up with a few ideas for how it could work, depending on if voice chat exists in this game, and in what form.
1, Voice Commands: If the game has a voice command system (Killing Floor 2 and EDF 4.1 for some PS4 examples) where a radial menu can have your character say things like "Follow me!" "Over here!" "Run for it!" and other helpful suggestions to your team mates, what if the Predator could use vocal mimicry to issue the same commands in order to lure nearby enemy players into traps and ambushes?
2, True voice chat and Proximity Chat: In Halo 2 and 3, only players on your team could hear your voice at all times while in-game (except for pre-game lobbies, where everyone can communicate freely). However, there was a feature called Proximity Chat that let you and enemy players hear each other if you were close enough. If Hunting Grounds had this feature, perhaps Vocal Mimicry could allow the Predator player to record the actual dialogue being spoken between team mates that he can overhear while stalking them nearby, and throw it back at them (with the distortion effect applied) as a taunt mechanic? The obvious downside is, given the usual vulgarity and immaturity of online gaming, the Predator player could inadvertently mimic some really questionable or offensive stuff.
3, Just a Taunt: Pretty much just relegating it a taunt button that randomly spits out one of the iconic mimicry lines from the films ("Anytime...", "Want some candy?", etc) or some of the iconic roars and laughs. Maybe even Pussyface's "Motherf**ker!" and "Shit happens." :D
I think mimicking the player might get into some weird legal territory so I can't see that working. However I can imagine a command menu being utilized and the Predator being able to mimic those commands or maybe even mimicking the other team to catch the players off guard.
I can also imagine the Predator having different taunts based on the films.
Though as of right now we only know of three weapons and gadgets;
Wrist blades
Plasmacaster (it got name dropped)
and one vision mode likely the typical thermal vision.
While the outline is a bit distorted, the Predator design is most likely Jungle Hunter seeing as it got used in Ghost Recon and Mortal Kombat. It likely is since on the wristblade gauntlet the distortion curves towards the back like JH's.
Considering IllFonic's last game gave players the ability to unlock different Jasons from different Friday the 13th movies, even the futuristic Jason X, I think it's reasonable to assume players will be able to unlock various Predators.

Wow! Very creative!
It's not likely to be implemented for reasons already stated but that would truly be something special. Nice idea!
It would be awesome that the Elite Fireteam players get to hunt down a cartel as a bonus before the predator starts hunting them, that would be awesome
Despite the risk that it makes pick-up games with uncooperative random players much harder for the humans, I hope they reward teamwork on the human side and patience and timing on the predator side.
Love Voodoo's mud idea. Would force the pred to use different vision modes but would also be a risk for the human players as there would probably be only be a few locations to get it, so the predator could lay in wait.
When you think about there are so much small thing you could implement. Force the pred player to use the target laser for ranged attack so the humans have a little advance warning when they are targeted, put a river on the map so the humans could use it to secure their flanks etc, play with the vision modes. Infrared may give a big advantage, but you could be blindsided by a mud covered opponent when you overly rely on it or temporarly blinded with a flare or something like that, small makeshift traps or mines.
A lot of potential there.
If it's coming out in 2020, why don't they just release it for PS5 ???
It may come to both, they wouldn't announce anything like that until they officially show off the PS5.
Isn't the PS5 release predicted for November 2020?
This Predator game may be released early 2020 for all we know.
Rumors are that PS5 is going to be compatible with PS4. Games may work with similar modes like on PS4 Pro. A performance frame mode with uncapped or 60fps option at the same base PS4 resolution, 4K resolution mode with the same base PS4 graphical effects or graphical mode with additional graphical effects at the same base PS4 resolution.
I would not be surprised if the game will be also cross play compatible as there is a game called Helldivers which can be played between PS3, PS Vita and PS4 for example.
Looks like a really interesting idea for a Predator game, which due to my busted thumbs and rural internet connection, I'll never be able to play. :'(
Since the trailer wasn't in game footage, we don't know what type of gameplay it, will have. If it's a PS4 exclusive, it just might have VR compatibility.
That would be something interesting. Be the predator. :o

Try to imagine it being made like Firewall Zero Hour but I do not believe they are concerned about it. There is only 4.2 million units sold of PS4 VR against 91.6 millions of PS4 consoles.
Literally the first "original" idea to come from the Pred Universe in over a decade at least.
I can't belive they aren't going to add X-Men, or a Predator-Incredible Hulk to this. Amazing. Good old-fashion Hunt-kill-Pred. Wow. Who would've thought.
And guess what everyone. It's going to be a hit. Go figure.

I know, it's shocking (in a
good way) that we're actually getting a pure Predator game here. I'm crossing my fingers that they don't try to fiddle with the idea at the last minute and, idk, try to sneak in some sort of tie-in with another universe.

Suprised and interested, but a goddamn ps4 exclusive? f**king hell I hope not. Xbox exclusives now have the windows 10 play anywhere thing, don't know if ps has something similar for pc players.
For those talking about F13. Right now it got 8 maps, 3 locations have 2 versions (normal and reduced) and other 2 locations that are bigger sized. The locations of stuff like objetives is random per match, so it changes even if its the same map, matches are hardly ever the same. There is a lot of customization for the counselors, a lot of creative executions for the 8 Jasons you can play as. Hope they add a lot of Predators we have seen, movies and EU.
A big issue is the balancing, hope they make it defeating the Predator very hard, in F13 killing Jason became too easy, they buffed Jason some months ago but for high level players its still not a issue to kill him. Once my party killed a Jason 3 matches in a row. f**king boring. But they managed to add a "campaign" mode for the game and it was interesting.
The lawsuit kind of screwed the other upcoming dlc, they were going to add more stuff like Jason X skin and other maps. Other rights issues prevented them to bring Remake Jason and FvsJ Jason. If the team doesn't face the same problems we could have a lot of continuous support for this one thus adding more stuff over time.
So either we're getting another new game, a PS4 port of the Predator VR attraction, or Hunting Grounds is gonna be playable in VR too?

I'm reluctant to be excited about this game. I played the hell out of F13 The Game and the devs abandoned it conveniently due to a licensing issue, of which both parties had said the developers were fine to continue on with the Jason X material in particular. The developers decided to respond with radio silence with a patch every 6 months if that with no new material to be developed or released.
The game remains absurdly unbalanced with glitches that have remained since launch. That radio silence has now been ended with a balance patch, then some social media presence but largely the game remains unfixed. I have little hope for this Predator game if that's that track record we have to contend with.

The F13 game was originally developed by IllFonic and Gun Media. Once they were sued, all DLC stopped and the game was pulled off the market. If you purchased it before then, you got to keep the game. But all DLC stopped. Then, to make matters worse, they lost the lawsuit.
Once Black Tower Studios took the game over it was already too late.
That's the most concise explanation I've read as to the fate of this game. Thankyou. That gives me a little more hope as to the fate of this game. I shall watch it with greater interest that's for sure.
Cool! I'm happy to be a help! :)

I'm going to go with
Evolve as a similar comparison in concept, because it's about four hunters and a monster, and it's multiplayer.
Friday the 13th The Game is entertaining, but mostly just because it's goofy as hell. Navigating the menus is a more immersive Jason experience than actually playing the game, but there's some nice fan service here and there. Just gets repetitive though. Evolve felt like a new thing any time I played it.
The downside to Evolve (on the PC anyways) was that after the initial release people started kicking hunter players they didn't know right after joining a game. Hopefully that isn't something that'll happen in this.
I'm *this much* pumped! Now...to get a PS4.
Very exciting news! Even if it is not exactly the Predator game I've been wanting, it's still a Predator game and hopefully it will be successful enough that it will lead to other Predator game installments. Maybe one that allows you to design your own Predator and hunt on different worlds.
I'm really hoping that this comes to PC. Has a lot of potential
PS5: Sony Confirms Cross-generation Play
"Kodera-san added that backward compatibility is positive not simply because you can play old games on the next-gen console, but also because the community can enjoy the games together via cross-generation gameplay."
https://twinfinite.net/2019/05/ps5-backward-compatibility-sony/
I think a game based on clan conflict and open-roam galactic hunting would be much better. But if this suceeds maybe we get that in the future?
I'm pretty sure that the success of this game will probably affect any future Predator/Alien/AVP games. It seems to have the right formula though so we have that going for us at least
Quote from: Voodoo Magic on May 11, 2019, 11:54:25 PM
Considering IllFonic's last game gave players the ability to unlock different Jasons from different Friday the 13th movies, even the futuristic Jason X, I think it's reasonable to assume players will be able to unlock various Predators.
Quote from: Komenja on May 11, 2019, 09:17:39 PM
Wow! Very creative!
It's not likely to be implemented for reasons already stated but that would truly be something special. Nice idea!
Friday the 13th had proximity voice chat that led to some very fun situations, so I wouldn't be surprised if it showed up here too, though yeah obviously without actually being able to record it.
That mud camouflage idea is cool, it could definitely help give the humans an edge, though you should probably only be able do it once at one spot. Otherwise it wouldn't take long for the thermal vision to be rendered useless if every match turned into a race to the mud spots and the entire human team could just camo themselves.
I'd also like it if you could string bodies up, even if only at certain predetermined spots like in Concrete Jungle, which would give you bonus "trophy" XP as the Predator but leave you vulnerable while you were doing it. It'd give you a reason to do it, but also come with a downside that the human players could exploit if they caught you doing it, or saw one of their fellow players strung up and realised that was something you were trying to do.
And yeah as has already been mentioned, the Predator as a character has a lot more variety in terms of what he can do than Jason does, so I wonder whether they're going to go with a pre-set list of stats/attributes like with Friday the 13th or have more of a customisable loadout for him? You could do cool things with either I think, like have a pre-set Predator that focuses on melee with no ranged weapons, one that's all about range but not got a lot up-close, one that perhaps has the medkit so he can heal/regain health but with the trade-off of not having as many weapons as other Preds etc.
Likewise if they went with a player-custimisable loadout they could possibly go with a points or slots-based system, where each item you could equip would take up a certain amount of space in your loadout, so that you could have one or two powerful items at the cost of others. You could either go with one big, powerful weapon or gadget and not a lot else, or try to balance things out with multiple items that cost less in points or slot space.
Either way Illfonic definitely did good with the multiple Jasons fan service in Friday the 13th, so it's a pretty good bet that whatever system they're going with we'll be getting multiple different Predators to play as.
One thing I just noticed that I'm not sure has been mentioned was that the blurb on the game's PS4 page (https://www.playstation.com/en-us/games/predator-hunting-grounds-ps4/) says "Predator: Hunting Grounds is an immersive asymmetrical shooter set in remote areas around the world...."
Here's hoping that means it'll include more settings than just a jungle at launch.
^ Yup, hopefully so. You could totally do "police/SWAT team trying to take down a criminal gang and/or obtain evidence" as the objective for the human players in that setting.

I'd love a city map though.

Yeah the hunting planet is certainly within the realms of possibility, if not at launch then as an additional map later on, given that they'd obviously already have a bunch of jungle assets to use.
I'd hope if it were included that we'd get some landmarks from the film, like the hunting camp and totems dotted around, or the big alien drilling machine.
Yeah, I'm really hoping for a variety of map locations too!

Nothing really about the game, superb team of talented people by all accounts and out early next year.
Outside of some insight into the team (which is always appreciated), the photos do have some small albeit known information.
There are some assets on display like a jungle setting (something we've known) and the various shrubs or shrub textures (it's hard to tell). There's also a mechanical thing with what looks like a map. However it might just be a grid of some sorts.
The article doesn't really say anything about the game itself but it is due out early next year. I just sincerely hope it doesn't release as late as March since the schedule has some heavy hitters in there. It's a small game under a small studio with a dedicated fanbase, but if released too late you really got got have something big to distract from Avengers and Cyberpunk.
Yeah, don't go up against Cyberpunk. ;D

Pretty sure Sony is publishing this one so yeah.
I'm not sure if this is confidence or not but I'm glad we will see something.
So does Sony got something like Microsoft's play anywhere feature? Meaning I can play xbox one games(including exclusives) on my computer(windows 10), even play online with people that are using xbox one.
Would be nice since I wasn't planning on buying any consoles. :-X
Its weird... we never had a alien/predator console exclusive game before right? And now this. It might limit the selling numbers but then maybe whatever Sony gave for the exclusivity was worthy for the developers.

There is a small probability that the game will be available on PC through Sony's PlayStation Now streaming service if it is not ported.
Regarding exclusivity, we did have it on consoles before e.g. Jaguar's AvP, SNES' AvP, Genesis' Predator 2, GB's AvP, PS2/XBox's Predator: CJ and there is more of them. Sony has sold over 100 million PS4s which gives not a small user base. Also there are rumors that PS5 is going to be compatible with its predecessor extending chances to recoup money and profit from this investment.
Thanks for the info. I made an account on playstation's site and from what I'm seeing ps now is still not available on my country :P. And it seems one needs a ps4 controller to play the games. Still gonna take a while for the game to release so until that I will research this stuff.
Here's hoping for the best.
To be honest, it'll be nice to actually have a reason to play my consoles. I've got a PS4 and Xbone but don't really touch them these days. It's all about the PC.
I am curious as to if it'll hit the PS Now though. Going to have a look into that.
I'm really keeping my fingers crossed for this one.
Geoff is such a weird Spelling for Jeff. Fingers crossed this is good. Going to buy it even if it sucks.
I hope it's good, I'm tired of mediocre and bad media. And I hope it's even starts and on PC.
The Friday the 13th framework is just so perfect for Predator so I think there's a very good chance it will be good.

F13 does have its issues but well its entertaining to play and still got lots of players. And there was a lot of fanservice for the fans.
Don't the issues F13 have stem from them not working on it anymore though? (because that court case business)
The lawsuit thing prevented them for adding more content which was already planned, I heard you can even access some stuff(Uber Jason skin) by hacking the game files. But officially there will be no more additional content as of now.
But I meant issues regarding gameplay, bugs, balancing. It got better since the last patch(Jason got buffed). But last week there were some new weird bugs on the cars going on, on the site it says they are still providing continued maintenance and bug fixing.
I believe Black Tower Studios is still in charge now of F13 since IllFonic and Gun Media lost the lawsuit.
Since Predator is not a Kickstarter like F13, I'm optimistically assuming they are more properly funded and will have the resources to bug fix pre-launch.
I hope so, I'm so done with the new normalcy for a game to launch in "Beta" or "Alpha" (Lies) and never reach Gold.
I think this will be more solid of a release considering it's not done via kick starter like Voodoo said. That being said I'm sure we'll see the usual demo/beta before it release.
Good to finally have a date for some gameplay. I'm hoping it'll be good and that the (potential) increased access to funds and resources over Friday the 13th means this doesn't suffer from some of the same issues and jank that that one did, but either way I'm all-in.
Sony's got the benjamins! $$$ :)
Indeed, judging by many future and past exclusive to the platform, and a good track record.

Just another "one man's trash is another man's treasure" situation here.
At the very least based on Friday the 13th it should be pretty great in the fanservice department. That sort of thing can sometimes go a long way towards papering over certain gameplay cracks.
Applying their F13 model to Predator is what has gotten me so darn excited about it. :)
The fact that unlike F13 this is going to be a shooter, with the human characters presumably being able to actually fight back against the Predator, gives me hope that this will avoid some of the less fun gameplay aspects of F13.
In that game is Jason could sometimes find you immediately and kill you, then you had to either sit around spectating until the match was over to get your XP or leave with nothing. Hopefully here if the number of humans is less (based on the CG reveal trailer), and they can actually fight back, that should help prevent those annoying situations from being repeated here.
On the opposite side of that though there's a risk the Predator might be to easy to kill. I'm sure that a lot of what goes in to winning as the Predator will be tactics and patience, but it would also suck to not be able to take on a human player in a 1 on 1 situation.
Hopefully the Predators are durable but not OP

They can always buff or nerf the Predator' stats later on, that's what happened on F13.
At launch people complained about Jason being too OP so he got nerfed but then everybody was new at the game. After a year people learned the games's tricks, got bunch of high level perks and with the addition of the small maps the tables turned. Counselors could easily gang up on Jason, escaping from or killing the other player quite fast. It ruins the experience being able to kill Jason 3 matches in a row. Then early this year Jason got buffed.
Finding the right balance might be one of the biggest challenges and they might not get it right the first time. As long as they are willing to fix things later on its okay.
The sadly inevitable thing with most multiplayer games is that people always complain about something being OP even if the game gives them everything they need to counter it. Most of the time they're either just stupid or they don't actually want to do anything that takes them outside their own personal little play style in order to deal with whatever it is they're having a problem with, and instead just want said thing nerfed into the ground so they can continue to just do whatever they want to do without having to worry about getting destroyed because the way they play sucks.

It sounds like they are cramming too much into the "object" of the game. Having objectives while a Pred freely assaults you along the way is going to take away from the experience.
I know what they are trying/attempting to accomplish but the fact that players KNOW the Predator will be there, will distract them and likely defer the "mission" aspect to just focusing on the Predator. I think it will wind up that most players are just looking out for the Pred the entire time anyways and this should've just been a death match type game.
Gotta get people to move somehow or they will just hunker down as a group and wait for the pred. Not much fun in that.
Accomplishing objectives as a team while keeping an eye on the predator stalking you, waiting for his chance to strike, sounds way more thrilling and immersive than yet another regular death match type IMO.
I'd have to guess the XP will be a big motivator for the human team to complete their objectives, much like it is in the F13 game.
There's probably going to be more value in completing your objectives and escaping rather than in actually killing the Predator

- Predator: You can self-destruct when health runs low
That's right, when the Predator's health runs low, the player can activate a self-destruct sequence via the wrist computer, and the Fireteam will need to scramble to get out of the blast radius before the countdown timer rounds out. Wiping out the Fireteam in this way doesn't garner a victory for the Predator though, as the outcome is determined by scoring.
We can already imagine players who play as the Predator letting out a blood curdling laugh over VoIP when the self-destruct sequence is activated, just like the ending in 1987's Predator.

TO my knowledge that's a first for a game featuring a Predator right? It's great news though, and in a way its even a "Rage quite" deterrent
You used to be able to do it in Primal Hunt IIRC. But that's a pretty damn swanky feature.
Excellent, I hoped for the feature.
In Call of Duty Ghosts DLC Devastation when the player as the Predator gets downed they automatically self destruct and as far as I recall there was no running away, everyone who was an enemy to the player was killed as far as I remembered.
I can't wait to do my best Billy laugh when I trigger it!

From what I recall from reading and watching a bunch of those recent hands-on previews, the humans can apparently stop the self-destruct if at least one of them can get to the Predator before it goes off and deliver a killing blow, which sounds like it could create some fun and potentially really tense last-minute situations where you'll have to decide whether you think you're close enough to get to him in time to stop it (and risk getting blown up for sure if you're wrong), or just say to hell with it and try to get out of there.
Could you do that in Wildands too? I can't remember.
I'm not sure, I never owned the game, just saw a couple of videos of the Predator mission.

lol I'm really starting to feel bad for the xbox people. Even though I got a ps4, this game should definitely be on all platforms.
I'm kinda surprised that people still get upset over console exclusives. Their entire purpose is to entice into buying that platform. Been going on since there were consoles.
I am admittedly fortunate enough to own both consoles and even I'm a tiny bit salty about this.
I've been there with not having the money for a console or online capability and I know how much it sucks to be paying for bills and groceries when you could be playing games on the system you actually own. Having it open to all platforms at the time while a developmental hurdle does benefit everyone, though I can see why a smaller studio wouldn't do that.

I'm only saying it in a sense that it would be nice for the most amount of people to experience the game is all. I'm just starting to feel bad for the X-box guys. Playstation has Spider-Man, God of War, Detroit Become Human, Bloodborne, Horizon Zero Dawn, etc. Microsoft has been getting destroyed this generation when it comes to exclusives. They need to get their asses in gear for the upcoming generation, that's for sure.
Edit: Oh, and I can't forget about the last of us 2.
In my ideal world, we would have only one common specification for a console and a compatible PC that is created in cooperation by big tech companies, publishers and software developers to provide a gaming platform to customers. They would be making profits only on software and peripherals.
I am a former xbox guy. Back then when I had to choose between xbox 360 and ps3, the choice all came down to 2 exclusive franchises: Gears of War and God of War. I choose Gears because I liked the direction the series headed in the sequels more and was more into shooters at that time.
I was going to buy a xbox one but then microsoft's play anywhere happened, and Gears was back on the PC. Microsoft choose to become multiplatform and compete for the PC gamers. So maybe their profit has improved by doing this instead of hoping people will buy their console through exclusives. Getting rid of the platform exclusives made things better than ever for me, Xbox PC Game Pass is a great deal, and even though I haven't bought a new console from them, I will probably keep that subscription for life.
Predator isn't a really big thing in the gaming world, I don't think there will be many people willing to buy a ps4 just to play this game, the players will be people that already have the console or fans that care for the Predator franchise enough to spend the money aka us here. So most xbox one users won't care. But for me, since playstation now (streaming service) isn't available in my country, its gonna be a blow to buy a console pretty much just for 1 game, even though the ps4 price decreased a little here.
Exactly, there's no way I can justify buying a whole console (which is expensive for me, at least in my country) just for one game. I haven't checked if Playstation Now is available in my country, but I hope it is.

I have to think Sony thought this through. I also think there are A LOT of fans of the first Predator film that will not step in here or seek out any community. They love the movie, have it on blu and 4k, recite lines and maybe have a 'get to the choppa" shirt or own a pop, but love 50 other movies too and it's just not that one fanatical thing with them. But they will get excited if they hear a Predator game is out that resembles the first movie, and if the reviews are great they will buy the console because they just love, love, love the movie while not necessarily being in love with the character and its lore.
I'm more of an Xbox person myself. I know people love the Playstation exclusives, but they don't have Halo or Gears of War so I easily pass on anything playstation has to offer. I will say that several games have made me want a PS4 like Kingdom Hearts Story so far, but only 3 or 4 games I want are exclusive to Ps4, all the other games aren't exclusive and I already have an Xbox so there's little to no point in getting one for just a couple games. Same with the switch too I only want Smash and Metroid Prime but if that's it that would be a waste of money. It's $300 dollars for a game console, plus more for the games and maybe another controller if need be. For me a so far ONLINE ONLY, Predator game that's made by the same people behind the glitchy Friday the 13th game that later got shadowed by games like Dead by Daylight is definitely not worth it. There is a lot of cool info coming from the game but honestly not enough to make me buy a $300 dollar console (Although Black Friday is around the corner so I may just shut up and get one anyways)

Now what the heck does this mean???
- What can you tell me about working with Fox? What was that collaboration like?
Gerritzen: We have been working closely with Fox on the canon of it all; on where Predator: Hunting Grounds fits within the Predator universe and timelines. It was great. They opened up a lot to us. There are things we got to see that the public hasn't. They've been super open to us adding to the canon of the Predator universe. The back and forth of how that goes, it was a lot of cool nods to the previous films. We're taking our inspiration from the '87 film but then also having new things that we're bringing to the universe as well. There's going to be a lot for the fans to enjoy when this comes out.
Umm, what??? What things did they get to see in regards to canon that the public hasn't?

I feel like that could be taken a couple different ways.
Either they got to see something akin to a universe bible...., or theirs stuff in the pipeline they're willing to share.

Based on past history and my personal doubt of the existence of such a bible, I'm thinking the latter! :o
It could just be stuff like unreleased concept art or rejected designs for the various movies that have never been made public, that sort of thing.

Hmm. Unfortunately when I think unreleased concept art and rejected designs, my mind immediately goes to the pred-monkeys and spiders.
But unreleased concept art and rejected designs have all been seen by the public/fans actually...
I have my doubts about rejected designs seeing as we've known about the rejected items for years now. And if it's recent then it wasn't included in the art book and the only ones we don't know that much about are the cut Hybrids (I don't know why they'd play a role in this).
We also know they didn't really hang onto much of the stuff made for the films so I doubt it's anything from their archives. And if the interview with Alec Gillis (or was it Nimrod Antal?) is to be believed on here, they don't really plan much of anything going into the next film..., that is to say that they might be working on another or that there is a media push we don't know about yet.
Predator 2's 30th anniversary is next year as well as Predators 10th. So there might be something in the works that Predator: Hunting Grounds might be tying into if Illfonic got access to something we haven't seen yet. It also lines up well enough with certain release windows for content. Predators came out in July of 2010 which gives us a summer update, and Predator 2 was November giving us a fall or winter update. We know they're tying into the Predator universe with this so if I had to guess, it's probably something to do with next year's media push. Said push might be revisiting the characters or at least the setting.

Good points.
I also hypothesize if there is a television series in development targeted for Disnox's Hulu (a destination for Predator that feels inevitable to me), this also may be the content IllFonic is seeing that the public hasn't, which relates to fitting in canon.
Disney has paid a fortune for Fox and in order to make it worth it, they need all these franchises to generate revenue. So I do expect something Predator in the works down the pike, probably for the small screen.

If they're unreleased then by definition they haven't been.
You mean they're implying they'd show more stuff we haven't seen at all?
I mean they probably have a certain amount of production material archived not all of which has been seen by us. We're still getting new photos from the set of Alien, and that movie's older than even the original Predator.
I'd love it to mean "they secretly have a new movie, TV series, shared AVP universe and a AAA open-world video game made by Rocksteady all in the works", but I'm not getting my hopes up that this dev meant anything more than that.

Soooooo I guess I'll put you down as a "no" for "playable pred-monkeys"?
No Pred-Monkeys.
A Female Yautja would be extremely cool though!

I get it, knowing where these franchises are at, it's better to keep our expectations at a reasonable and skeptic level.
Death Stranding was just announced to be released on PC in early summer 2020. Here is a good chance that Predator: HG will be as well.
I really hope so. That would be an instant buy for me.
Glad to hear plenty of passion.
Since we'll be getting a Jungle Hunter skin as a pre-order bonus, I really hope that one way or another we get more movie skins too, now that the precedent has been set.
Sure I'd love it if they went the good old fashioned route of that stuff just being in the game already, but if not, City Hunter, Wolf and/or Mr Black DLC skins would definitely be a way to get me to cough up some extra dollary-doos.
