Title: Filming The Elder Predator - ADI Shares New Alien vs. Predator Behind-the-Scenes Video!

The good folk over at Amalgamated Dynamics Inc. have uploaded a new video from from their time working on Paul W.S Anderson’s Alien vs. Predator. The video appears to show one of Paul Anderson’s first looks at the Elder Predator suit as he offers suggestions for some changes to the colour scheme.
We also get some behind-the-scenes footage of the filming of the Elder Predator’s only appearance in the film as he supervises the retrieval of Scar’s body and offers Lex his spear.

You can see in the Day in the Life of the Predator that Scar's mandibles were totally capable of closing mostly properly (they could at least go over the front teeth, unlike the movie, and the dummy head even has the mandibles in roughly the right "open" position), they just ... didn't choose to do that when animating them?
I wonder if that was ADI or Anderson deciding to keep them tucked to the side. I have a feeling it was Anderson -- at the least, he could've got them to change it if he wanted.
Anderson spoke about the ramp being slippery in the commentary, but seeing it is great :D

I think in terms of the law of averages, we can only blame the Directors (different directors) so much, before we must consider that it's the same ADI team- making the same mistakes, repeatedly.

Would have to agree with you there sister. Plus, what director asked for poor paint jobs?

I know we went around the track of the sculpts, but I don't remember discussing the paint jobs. Of all the things AvP-onwards did, I never thought that was an issue.
Except the "classic" Pred in Predators, who's just yellow with some brown splotches.

Maybe it's a combination of paint and sculpt, but Fugitive (Paper-Mache-Mouth) looks fake to me in a way Wolf doesn't. Not that it matters, they're all from trash anyway.
And Predators takes brainpower to remember it exists. Ugh, what a sorry state of affairs. I really want another good Predator film or a game.
I want to stop talking about these bad Predator iterations, (bad practical BTS and various "Super" Predators onscreen) it's the Predator equivalent of those damn AVP 2004 renders that pushed the original Alien design into general public consciousness oblivion.

As bad as the plot is, Fugitive and even the Emissary Pred's look a lot more life like than the AVP preds

The CGI retcon? Nah. Practical effects anyday. Now Fugitive? That's iffy. The mouth still operates and looks wrong. But everything else in the face was okay. His dread style/shape was much different, which was kinda cool.

That's fair. The Fugitive was the best ADI created in my opinion, but the Fugitive, and two Emissaries still feature the gamut of design and to a lesser degree, paint problems:
Ironically, I would insist the CG Assasin Upgrade Predator came the closest / was the most faithful of them all in regards to Stan Winston's x mandible design. No slack-jaw, broken jaw bones there.
That's Assassin, and I agree even ignoring the fact he's CGI it still looks...odd.

Despite he looks a little overmuscular to me i like Upgrade's design and think it really fits its "Badass Predator" nature. And that scene where he crashed Fugitive's face with bare hands really gave me impression how dangerous he is.

Mostly true. But the face just looks...wrong.
There is an elegance in Stan Winston designs that we have departed from. You don't need to make everything "bigger" and "better." Sometimes simplicity is the key.

i think ADI is ok with the alien but they are not anywhere near stan winston legend studio when it comes to the predator. Disney please use legend studios for any further predator appearences in any movie. Also i am ok with seeing Boba Fett getting hunted by a Predator.

ADI's Alien³ Alien is the first and last good ADI Alien.
The Newborn's a technical marvel, and the Eggs and Facehuggers? Always good. Covenant's the best versions though.
