But the Alien universe isn't exactly a place where loads of people survive...

Save profiles. Only having one save slot makes it hard to play the game and then share it.

Better human AI, more human encounters but less scripted. Humans were very scripted in this game and felt tacked on.

Acid damage.

More melee weapons. More gore. More death animations.

Give Ripley the ability to jump, or at least climb over boxes and small ledges.

More uses for wall panel hacking. The ability to lock doors and hatches and vent gas (like in the lifeboat).

The ability to take a dead person's gun. Make them smarter so it doesn't feel like an easy way to get a shotty early in the game.

Ricocheting bullets.

Better physics.

Less ID tags/more audio logs and video recordings.

Death animations involving multiple aliens.

Hackable Working Joes.

The ability to save certain main characters from dying.

Different clothing that makes more/less noises but protects Ripley differently.

More complicated vent systems.

Working Joes with guns.

The ability to self destruct the station early on in the game (lol).

No medkit mode.

Amanda bleeds when wounded and leaves a bloody trail until healed.

Duct tape.

The ability to weld doors shut.

A chest-bursting scene.

The blood trail idea is awesome. You could even possibly drip blood through traps or dangerous areas to slow the alien down. I could see dripping the blood and then leaving a mine or something in the trail. I think having to heal would be awesome.

True, but many of the deaths were just corny for a horror movie and easily predicted.

Axels' was, but I quite liked how Waits and especially Ricardo were handled.

predxeno

The main character deaths were fine, not so much for the minor ones tho. :(

Also: death sequences, where the alien doesn't kill you, but it corners you and the screen fades to black, followed by a series of horrible screams as something happens to Amanda.

Screams from people being killed in the distance. Random screams.

Random power failures and other disasters that you would have to contend with in different ways.

Teamwork -- Ripley, Parker and Brett-style.

Friendly droids.

A paper map that you would have to unravel and read on the table, just like in Alien, except try doing it in the dark with a flashlight.

Side-quest encounters with Ransome and other DLC-characters (optional, not mandatory).

The ability to commit suicide with explosives if the Alien grabs you, like in Aliens.

The ability to pick up and throw objects, like coffee cups and containers, to distract the Alien quickly.

Instead of powering up parts of the station, have instances where you'd have to power down the station and navigate through areas that are extremely dark. Or, explored internal parts of the ship with no oxygen, requiring you to suit up inside the station. You'd be unable to run away from the creature and it'd be tense as shit.

The ability to capture facehuggers and throw them at looters (lol).

Oooh! I like the map idea! That would be so much more immersive and tense! I can just imagine having to pull out blueprints or something and the noise of uncrinkling to see the map and/or flipping between multiple pages for each floor/new area which might attract unwanted attention, and using your precious flashlight batteries to actually view the map while it's dark! I think it would be cool too if Amanda (or whoever you're playing with) uses one hand to sort of point to the area of the map corresponding to your current location as a means of letting the player know where they are! Good idea! I hope CA sees this one, and a lot of the other ideas mentioned in this thread if they do indeed make a sequel...

Update: or another related idea as an alternative... You get NO map, and have to rely on periodicly reviewing "you are here" maps and emergency exit maps posted around in various places to find your way around.

Corporal Hicks

I just want the static noise from the Dallas death scene in the next one somewhere.

Only thing I'd change would be to have the ability to play specific levels again once you've completed them. Other than that, I'm good!

EDIT: Corporal Hicks, surely the static sound is just Dallas' headset malfunctioning and feeding back into the others' headsets as he's dragged away? Otherwise he could just lead them to the creature. I guess it could be used for an offscreen death!

They should've used it when you get captured at the end of the game. Alien lunges, static whine, cuts to black, Verlaine's voice gradually receding as you're dragged away, "Amanda? Amanda!"

You can. There is a level select.

I know - but that sound is just too iconic, IMHO. I wanted to see it involved somewhere.

Now that we bring it up, I wouldn't say no to Alien surprise attacks/kills like how Kane's Son grabbed Dallas; many of the kills the Alien performs on you in-game don't make you jump like in the movie.

There is?! I haven't found it in five replays! Must go look again!

As for the static sound - cool, fair do's!

I didn't realize there was a level select either until I finally selected Load mission saves. Kind of oddly worded.
