Title: Potential DLC Details? [Spoilers]
Post by: ikarop on Oct 10, 2014, 09:54:30 PM
I was just looking through the game files and noticed a few dialogue files named DLC_DLC1_TECH_COMMS, DLC_DLC2_SCI_HOSPITAL, DLC_DLC3_HAB_AIRPORT, DLC_DLC4_HAB_SHOPPINGCENTRE and DLC_DLC5_PENTHOUSE.

Not sure if it's something I just missed in the main campaign or support for something that isn't in the game yet? The text file for DLC_01 seems to revolve around Ransome:

There's evidence here that he stole samples of the incident from my lab. He's been coercing Gemini Exoplanet Solutions into researching them for him. I'm watching people die and all he's thinking of is how to spin a profit.

I know you're going to want to ask me some serious questions after reading, but if answering them means you can nail the slippery bastard it'll be worth it. I just hope we all live through this to see him get his.

looks like a dlc with multiple PoVs. Makes sense, I wonder if it's all ready all built and in the game...

I remember thinking "Oh, they modelled and animated Lingard just for that video log?". I guess it makes sense that they put as much effort in some of those characters if you're going to see them later in DLC. Axel's appearance seemed really short too for such a full-fledged character.

No support for that yet other than the usual methods. Textures should be good. It breaks the EULA tho so no posting of untouched resources in the forums, please.

Pretty sure lingard and axel will be playable, and also pretty sure there's an animation for chestbursting, which fits right in line in with Lingard.

Pretty sure there will 3-4 chars in total over the DLC, one of whom will be an old favorite.

Models are being processed and baked  in the usual places.

Game model/meshes tend to be very low-poly. A lot of the detail is actually in the textures rather than the geometry. You might be better off contacting someone like locusta if you're after good quality Alien models that will look decent as a 3d prints.

I saw his name in the credits of the game. I was surprised it was him, but he did sound sort of familiar at times now that I think back to it. He was also in AvP2010 IIRC.

He was, and it's not just the voice work, that's his likeness in the game. It always amazes that they under-promote his presence in these games so much...

Sure. but i want 3d prints in 1/75 scale, where a lot of the detail of a higher poly model would surely be lost ( i think). :P

will game models be fine for that scale? :P

We reached out to Creative Assembly and a studio representative provided us with the following information about these DLC related files:

"We've got five exciting add-on packs currently in development for Alien: Isolation, the first of which is planned for release towards the end of October. The files found within the installation that you've seen are by no means final and may change during the course of the coming months."

Their license covers Alien 3 so it could be a possibility. ACM had a Alien 3 MP DLC level after all.

Bradley Wrights concept art features a red and white version of (I think) the Anesidora with Patna written on instead, so whether it's another ship of that class, or an unused earlier name for the Anesidora, it isn't the ship from Alien 3.

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv191%2Ficecoldinalex%2Fpatna_zps46d82cd8.jpg&hash=cdd38d1e05e00ee762a321d8bccbb9197142eac3)

EDIT: I've no idea why that came out so small. You can see it clearer on the New Concept Art thread!

so whether it's another ship of that class, or an unused earlier name for the Anesidora, it isn't the ship from Alien 3.

Indeed, the Patna from Alien 3 is the same Sulaco spaceship model from Aliens with the guns removed.

That said, ships from different eras will often get the same name again. For example, the were five sailing ships named the USS Enterprise and three aircraft carriers named USS Enterprise over the years.

That's a lot of add on packs. Let hope for more than just survivor maps & new models.

My two cents for DLC maps..."gravity 0 map" So you have to wear the helmet...there is no sound out there (well a little inside your helmet) and you have to use the tracker...coz you cant hear the alien. You have to jump from one place to another...things floating all over the place...strange fire behavior etc...

I would be interested in seeing a follow-up mission for Marlow and the crew of the Anesidora.

It would show them going through Sevastopol's quarantine, the player gets to explore the station and interact with the citizens for awhile. Then they are apprehended by the Marshals for the Nostromo's flight recorder, Foster is suddenly complaining of chest pains, and it concludes with the alien emerging in the Operating Room.

How ever much I agree that I'd likie to see that chest burst, a story DLC for Alien Isolation with no Alien seems...unlikely.

Unless they do a mini campaign add on like ACM and have that idea as the first level.

Looking at the size of those dlc packs , the could be story dlc
or mabye episodes  . I hope to see the outbreak on the station but through
The eyes of different characters (axel, waits, ) ?  or as the doc en witness the chestburster come out
Foster .

Some of them are 3 times the size of the pre-order bonus DLC so one would hope. Not that file size is indicative of much in terms of gameplay length anyway.

Yeah, they'll probably recycle a lot of the existing textures from the base install for the DLC. My guess would be that the story DLC are those files in excess of 1 GB as they would likely need to contain lots of new dialogue which can take up a bit of disc space.

I don't think there will be much differences between them. It could be just repacked areas since the layouts may be different, TECH_COMMS weights around 800 mb in the main game for instance.

So the DLC for all five packs are completely done now if they've got specific file sizes?

Seems to me that this was done well before the game was released and they deliberately held it back?

As was the case for the two previous mainstream releases, as is the case for most big name launches with heavy aftermarket penetration. (pun intended) VA work takes a large amount of space and needs a lot of work when tailored and matched with post production, sega and CA simply have the allotted bandwidth covered.

I'm curious to know whether the hide and seek idea that was brought forward by CA will come as DLC. It'd be a fun gametype to play with friends.

Your aim is to complete all ten stages using only one life. If you die, you will return to the beginning of the challenge unless you have spent points on a save.

Your reward will appear once you have completed the current task and returned to this 'safe house' terminal.

You will be given a choice between two tasks for each stage, allowing you to pick the task that better suits your skills, current equipment, or provides the reward you want most. Choosing the right task at the right time is key to your survival.
The faster you complete the tasks, the more points you will earn.

There is a save point in the safe room that can be used between stages. This will allow you to continue from the last saved stage if you die, but it will cost you 2500 points for each save, affecting your final score.

You can abandon the safe house and end the Salvage Challenge at any time. This will post your current score to the leaderboard, but you can only post your final time if you complete all ten tasks.

I was disappointed about the DLCs they seem more like survivor mode than a story about the characters. Hopefully they could try their hand at a prequel story in the future as then you get to see Sevastopol in all its pre-terror "glory".

Plus I would I love to see an Alien campaign or something, I haven't played a decent Alien character since AVP2, the 2010 version had you walk and run like a dog alien and so did A:CM, I prefer to play them as the 8ft+  bipedal monster that was depicted in Alien, Aliens and Isolation. In AVP2 you could decide your stance through the crouch button, so it was cool. I know its a minor thing to some but meh, I like to be taller than my prey, and not be level with their crotch
