Yeah, that's not very subtle at all. Looks like a full-fledged gynecological exam cut'n'pasted on top of a rolly polly dressed as a crab.

I mean, it's a good start (the design) but i needs a lot of polishing and revamping. Needs to be more subtle and elegant.

...said, 'SpreadEagleBeagle'...

Haha, touché! I admit defeat on that one  8)

Giger had a very "IN YOUR FACE" aesthetic and this is actually more true to that than a lot of designs after the first film.

This is very true. Most of it is not subtle at all.

But niethr was this one one. http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t443/schlitzie/IMG_0230_zps92570b37.jpg~original

Perfect-Organism

If I remember correctly, the original egg was supposed to have a slit in one direction, but it was deemed too vaginal and potentially offensive, so it became an X cut at the top.  I think the final design is iconic, but it would have been really creepy to see the original intent..

The facehugger in Alien had a different belly. This vaginal underside was a Cameron addition. But you're right, I mean, Giger used to pass out pornography to the Shepperton crew as reference material.

"Giger used to pass out pornography to the Shepperton crew as reference material."

'Nuff said. ;D

Skylark Duquesne

It's a far cry from the "perfect organism" of 1979, the sleek, rigorously symmetrical killing machine designed by Master Giger. Seems like Master Ridley has decided to tread the grotesque territory of "Alien Ressurection" and its insultingly grandguignolesque Newborn. Failed experiments by David ? So he'd really be a modern Prometheus then. I also can't help feeling that the "hero" creature is going to look way more complex than the glimpse we are offered here.
Coincidentally, I am currently reading Greg Bear's "Eon", a hard sci-fi classic that had been sitting in my bookshelf for decades and the term "Neomorph" is used in there, along with the word "Homorph". Could it be the source of that neologism ? Maybe not, it's quite easy to coin for someone with a modicum of knowledge of the Latin language and according to me it's a sign of Scott's resolve to be done once and for all with the Xeno's "traditional" aspect, and impose a new shape. Easier said than done.
As for subtlety... If Covenant is mean, sick, outrageously violent and gory, harrowing and nerve-wracking, with Scott back in visionary mode, as it promises to be so far, I couldn't be more satisfied.

Perhaps Paradise is teeming with life... Really, it should be since we already know it has a developed eco-system. That also makes more sense out of how David is obtaining these specimens. Maybe Shaw isnt a baby alien machine after all? I do hope shaw has become something Giger would be proud of though...somehow.

I've always just got the impression that she'll continue living, or die, as a human.

Yup, perhaps they are native creatures of Paradise and I definitely want to imagine Shaw transformed into some kind of entity

@ The Eighth Passenger - Ha ha, silly me.  You are of course right about the 'baby Deacon' being born at some time AFTER Shaw and David have taken off from LV-223.  ::)

(I kinda forgot that fact due to various comments here and elsewhere in the past, which speculated on Shaw running into the 'Deacon' BEFORE she took off - which were all WRONG of course, as she was already away as you pointed out.  I guess my memory lapse was influenced by that kind of thing when I commented in my previous post! ;D)

So yes, I absolutely agree now that Shaw might have bravely ventured back to the 'Lifeboat' for various supplies before she took off.
So this still means Shaw hasnt encountered a birth of a xeno from a facehugger/trilobite yet,
so it still remains a mystery to Shaw and David.

I expect to see something like that in the movie  8)

SpreadEagleBeagle

I'm getting the feeling that the black goo is in fact the synthesized and distilled version/extract/medium of the Xenomorph genome, which the Engineers have been tampering with for ages, trying to control it desperately. But no matter how much they work with it the black goo always find its way back to the Xenomorph's original and primordial shape and form. Always defaults back to the creature we know so well.

In other words: the Xenomorph's genetic buildup and entity is dominant yet adaptable on a level not even the Engineers can grasp. Maybe it's the genetic memory? Who knows.

Either that or the Aliens/Xenos as we know them were created just a decade or so before the events and incidents taking place in ALIEN. The fossilized Engineer and Derelict however suggest that that is not the case.

Anyways, I prefer the concept I wrote in the first paragraph. The Alien needs to be an enigma, primordial and always outside of our scientific knowledge and reach.
