He can do eerie epic like for Winter Soldier:
Well he's a good composer I just hope thematically he ties his score into the predator universe and expand on Alan Silvestris much loved original score. I hope the tribal rhythms and pounding music comes back!
Oh I forgot to mention he's a fan of Alan Silvestris Predator 2 score so guys expect something good from him.
While I'm not completely opposed to Henry Jackman as a composer (I do like a lot of his stuff), I wish we could have gotten Silvestri back. Didn't he even express an interest in returning?
Another dissapointment. They could use Arnold as actor, they could use Alan Silvestri as composer. I really dont understand the logic behind this movie, someone has all the possibilities here, but instead choose a different way. Alan Silvestri is the best, anything else would be just a slightly similar, but not good as his scores. Even the fact that a different composer will try to connect his "sounds" with everything that Silvestri does before is very sad, because why try to imitate someone's work, when you can have that same guy (Silvestri) for this once again. Trailer, where is the damn trailer? Give me a proper trailer (huh, maybe we got just a few seconds aka teaser).
They rather choose someone who have a zero experience in the terms of a Predator, I dont get this. They dont have enough money or what? Alan Silvestri recent work was on Ready Player One. . that film is finished, he is free right now. . available for anyone, yet they still choose a different composer. I guess that Predators in cargo pants are a hard reality. . judging by all the shocking news about this film.
Petr, it could be the schedule problems and technical things. We don't know if Alan is still free, he expressed his interest a while ago.
What I find funny is that Henry Jackamn said in interview that soundtrack for first predator or the second really impressed him, and did inspired him. Also Hans Zimmer said that Predator 2 has the best action lesson soundtrack. Watch this video on the 39:00 minute
Disappointed that Alan Silvestri isn't doing the score but Henry Jackman is a talented composer.
That's fine for me :)
I'm not gonna lie, seeing this news kinda made me sad. I'd have loved for Silvestri to return and see what he would have done differently. Or what he would have added too the soundtrack that he made so iconic in this first two films. Especially since he was pretty vocal about his desire to return.
Having said that, I'm not against Henry Jackman. He's a fine composer and I welcome him with open arms. I hope his soundtrack for this film fits in and also stands on its own all at the same time.
The Winter Soldier is the best one but im not very hopefull here :(
Azamultic - I dont know what to say, really. . there is a zero luck with this movie from its beginning, script is strange if not crazy (I still hope it is huge joke) cast, actors are. . weak, weak is the right word. Constant delays all the time (I dont believe they have planned reshoots when they have numerous delays) and now this, Alan Silvestri is out of the game. The man who defined a couple of times the tone behind our favourite hunter is gone. For me, this is more than about music, guys. . just look at him, Alan Silvestri is really also a good person, he is serious and very intelligent man. I dont believe that Hanry Jackman can do something good as Silvestri, in this video below. . he act more like a child. . nothing against him, but personaly I just dont believe that a human with this type of behaviour can produce the same level of quality as Alan Silvestli himself. Hanry Jackman have totally different character, its a completely different person after all. . you know what I mean? Yes, his score will be propably ok, but it would be far away from Silvestri work, say what you want, I just feel it. Lets wait for a couple of more schocking surprises in the near future, the producton if this movie is still on its way.
I highly doubt he's not a capable composer, but my general sentiment about this news is "Not good."
Kong theme and the piece from Captain Phillips are both very good. Don't care much for Civil War or Kingsman pieces. He's a competent composer. Hopefully he'll nail it.
The Alien and Predator films have always had amazing composers. Great news.
Loved the music he did for the Kingsman movies. Looking forward to seeing what he does for this.
I just listened to and really liked the Kong and Kingsman ones but the Civil War one didn't hit my ear like the others. I'm okay with this news.
I had to do a rubble take, I was like HUGE JACKMAN..what?
Loved his Magneto theme in First Class, and his score for Winter Soldier was very Metal Gear Solid-esque to me. If I had to guess, maybe Silvestri's asking price was too high for Fox, right after they just allocated part of the budget towards 3D.
The score is the least of the problems facing this movie at the moment. That trailer is needed ASAP!

Oh shit! I forgot he did the soundtrack for Kingsman, that's one of my favorite soundtracks.
I can't believe they can't have Silvestri for this..thats sad they rather spend money to convert the movie to 3d.
Jackman is not a bad composer he was inspired by Silvestri thats clear from the Kong movie what I liked but this time we miss the opportunity to hear how Silvestri would revisit and extend the universe he created for the first two movie.
He expressed interest to come back 28 years after Predator 2 and they decide not to call him back? Thats truly sad.He talked about it months ago so they can work out the schedule for him.In Predators soundtrack he's originality was also missed and I hoped Black will bring him back.
He is a good composer

Yeah, I gotta say I loved the Kingsman theme and score. I know it's a little disappointing we've not got Silvestri back but I think that was always a long-shot. When I saw Wolverine Composer had worked on Kingsman I perked up quite a bit!

One of my favorite parts of the Kingsman soundtrack is that it uses the main Kingsman melody in almost every track but does so in creative ways so it never feels stale, while simultaneously giving the soundtrack a unifying and instantly identifiable "theme".
I really like the initial credits music from 'Captain America: Winter Soldier', and it's the one track you can't buy on iTunes. :P

Nothing new, I just found this interview with Jackman for Skull Island, and there's a part where he specifically addresses his care for Silvestri's Predator score and monster movies. Check it out:
Q: With this film setting up the inevitable meet between Kong and Godzilla coming up some time in the future – would you find it interesting to score that film if you were asked?
Henry Jackman: Oh, that would be a no-brainer! It makes me think of a bigger or more open question, which is that there's something about monsters which is a good thing for a film composer. You can go back to PREDATOR, and I hold Alan Silvestri's [score for] PREDATOR in great reverence. People may not think of PREDATOR as one of the classiest films ever made, but I think it's a great film. What particularly elevates the film beyond what it otherwise would have been is Alan Silvestri's fantastic score, which uses a really cool octatonic scale and it's just really imaginative. There's something about an alien monster or an otherly creature that seems to bring out some very interesting music. It's because monsters allow this kind of grand scale, especially in 2017 where many films which are contemporary don't necessarily invite a symphonic grandeur. There's something about having monsters in a movie that gives permission for film composers to write genuinely symphonic music. I don't quite know why that is, but given that there's a real vogue often for very simple ostinatos and a lot of production and powerful, long lines, which isn't necessarily genuinely symphonic music. The great thing about once you've got a Godzilla on the screen or a King Kong, you're expected to hear music of a certain symphonic grandeur. It doesn't feel out of place in a way that you couldn't do in other types of films. So big monster movies are a haven and a compositional oasis to deliver influences that stretch back through the Silvestris and the Jerry Goldsmiths right back to the source, which is sort of late Strauss and big grand 19th Century Austro-Germanic symphonic music, which really can't find a home in most modern cinema. I mean, try doing that in THE REVENANT! It's completely inappropriate! THE REVENANT is a beautiful score that has this fantastic minimalist approach to orchestral writing, which is absolutely beautiful and utterly suits it. The great advantage of seeing Godzilla hammering the crap out of King Kong, if that should ever happen, is that it's a similar thing. It would be expected to be feeling the full force of a symphony orchestra in its full glory and tradition. I don't know why monsters invite that, but they do – for whatever reason!

Nice find Danversity. It's right at 38:57 basically when Jackman talks Predator 2. I really dig that he acknowledged the film & is now getting to score The Predator! I had looked up his previous work when hearing he was the composer for the new film. But really cool he gave the nod to the film & really liked the music from Predator 2 so much. Especially with the main man Alan Silvestri hanging out there!
Also, Hans Zimmer even mentions how he thinks as far as soundtracks for action films go. He agrees with the score for Predator 2 being a favorite for him as well! Awesome documentary having so much different talent in one room there.

Preach. Grand movie symbols require grand orchestrations to accompany their appearances on screen. It's kind of unfortunate that the sounds of the Strausses, Schoenberg's, (maybe Wagners, Mahlers, and hell, some of the 20th century Russian composers while we're at it) have sort of been lost in cinema. Event-type films I think try to incorporate some of the those same elements, but the temp scoring nonsense ends up making it just...ugh :-\ It's nice to see a discussion like this taking place among some talented composers though. I wish Silvestri was involved in this new film somehow, but I do appreciate Jackman's "appreciation" for that time period. I don't expect anything opulent for this movie, but I do look forward to seeing what he does with it. Great article and video :)

It sounded like Predator, the greatest hits. And not in the best way.
Loved the Predators soundtrack from John Debney, but nothing much from this one stood out to me. I'll still give the whole thing a listen on its own and see if my opinion changes.
I'll check it, but did not care for it much at first.
I only remember the renditions of the main theme.

However as has been said, only the predator bits were good.
Plenty of nods to the first film, but whatever originality there was seemed very out of place. Like those brassy motifs that sounded like they were awkwardly ripped from a Back to the Future film. Or that opening sequence with the Star Wars instrumental vibe (not the main theme). Wouldn't be surprised if there was a lot of temp scoring going on.

The soundtrack is kinda on the same level as the predators
they also borrowed a lot of the music from the classic.
There were some similarities, yes. Plenty of the movie sounded like Predator (as did Predators), but the more "original" sections sounded very much out of place - as though they were influenced by Silvestri or Williams scores. Particularly the brassy motifs that generally aired during "triumphant" scenes, those sounded similar to Silvestris motifs in Back to the Future. Several parts also sounded similar to Williams when villains appear on screen (the original Star Wars trilogy.) Like I said, it could've been the fault of studio temp scoring, but to me it didn't quite fit.

i know it's actually better than the original in my opinion.
The score was a big letdown for me - enjoyed some of the beats/music used in the TV spots/trailers more.
I don't think it'd sound right if we didn't have the Predator theme in there somewhere but I can't say too much stood out for me in terms of original pieces. I remember liking that cheesey heroes theme when McKenna makes the leap into the ship and I'll probably pick up the score, just to listen to the rest of it without all the dialogue and etc.
Yeah, the only bits I really remember were the recycled cues from the previous films.
