AVP: Alien vs. Predator - 20 Years Later...

God, I can't believe it's about to be 20 YEARS since this film was released come this August. As much as I dislike the film, I still respect it for bringing some interest back to the franchises. For better and for worse.

To be honest, without this and AVPR, we wouldn't have had Prometheus, Prey, and all the other films that came out afterwards. I wonder if you all feel the same way.

What do you think? If this film hadn't been made, would we still have these new films in our midst? Do you think both of these franchises would stay in development hell? How would you see the future of these two franchises without AVP?

AvP did a lot to renew interest in both franchises and introduced an entire new generation to both. It's difficult to truly articulate what a boon it was to the online fan community in terms of members, art, stories, multiplayer lobbies, etc

Given how Scott's later films worked out, I'll take the devil I know over the devil I don't.

It was something that was being worked on by Scott and Cameron but was never actually active at the studio. "Very nearly real" is a dang lie.

I hated AvP in the cinema but over the years I've found it to be reasonably rewatchable thanks to its fast pace.  It's definitely a step down in the series but compared to what followed at least it wasn't a teen slasher film, a garbled badly written mess or achingly pretentious.

I could do without all the 'the enemy... of my enemy... is my friend?' nonsense but equally at least there isn't a robot ponce going on about horse nostrils.

I still love it to this day.

I think it is total cheese at best and I do not own it, have no desire to, or rewatch it ever.
