Curly

Curly is a Hybrid and is a member of the “Lost Boys”. Curly appears in the 2025 FX Series Alien: Earth and is played by Erana James.

Biography

Background

As a 12-year-old child, Curly is among the first group of Hybrids – a human consciousness inside of an artificial body. As a child, she was confined to a wheelchair and had no immune system. Her name before she transitioned was Jane Mita. Wendy helps Curly and the other hybrids transition to their artificial bodies.

Maginot Crash

In 2120, the USCSS Maginot ship crashes into a tower in Prodigy City, Earth. As the Hybrids are talking, Wendy arrives and informs them that they will be going to investigate the crash. Curly, along with the other Lost Boys and Kirsh, travel to the wreckage. The commander of the operation explains the situation. Wendy goes off with Slightly to rescue her brother, while Curly and the remaining Hybrids go with Kirsh into the Maginot.

Curly and the group come across some kind of plant lifeform hanging from the ceiling. Curly suggests killing it. Kirsh instructs Curly, Smee and Nibs to go find something to capture it with. In a laboratory, the trio witness a lifeform scurry away from a dead soldier. They then notice a cat that has been infected with another lifeform. It detaches from the cat and tries to attack Nibs. Nibs manages to get it off of her and Curly traps it in a container.

Smee shouts for Kirsh to join them. Smee tells Kirsh they’ve trapped a creature in a container. Kirsh plugs into the computer system and learns that the USCSS Maginot is a deep-space research model which was collecting specimens.

Curly goes to find Tootles and sees him interacting with the earlier plant lifeform. Kirsh sees numerous Alien Eggs on the monitor and tells Smee to go there and link up with Wendy and secure the area. Kirsh contacts Wendy and tells them to go there and secure the cargo.

Curly helps secure the specimens. Nibs asks Curly why they couldn’t keep their original names. Curly returns with the rest of the Prodigy personnel and the lifeforms to Neverland Research Island.

Neverland Research Island

Later, Curly visits Prodigy CEO Boy Kavalier. Kavalier tells her that they’re running tests on Wendy, who had been damaged.

Curly states that Wendy is his favourite of the group. Kavalier says that Wendy is his favourite because she is the first Hybrid. Curly says that she could be like Kavalier one day. He’s going to give Curly some books to read and recordings to listen to. Curly asks if she is now his favourite. Kavalier says no, but Curly is in the race.

Curly and Tootles help Kirsh prepare an Alien Egg for Kirsh to dissect. Curly records the event on a handheld camera as Kirsh removes a Facehugger, dissects it and removes the embryo. After Wendy collapses, she is brought back to the lab for further observation. Arthur changes the frequencies to the point that Wendy can hear the Xenomorph sounds. Kavalier asks Curly if she can hear it too. At first, she gives a vague answer but admits that she doesn’t hear it.

Later, the Hybrids are playing games outside. Curly asks Hermit what ‘the five’ are and Hermit explains that there are five corporations that control the world.

Curly is sitting with Nibs when Wendy and Hermit enter her room. Wendy tells her that they erased her memories, Isaac is dead and they need to leave. Curly says she was fine until they got her brother. Curly defends Boy Kavalier and says he wants to help us. Wendy and Hermit take Nibs with them, but Curly stays behind.

An upset Curly goes to Dame Sylvia’s room and Dame Sylvia comforts her.

After Wendy and Nibs get caught trying to escape, all the Hybrids, including Curly, are imprisoned in a holding cell. Curly says she shouldn’t be in here as she’s the favourite. Nibs suggests it’s because she told them that they were going to escape, but Curly says she didn’t.

Wendy tells them that they should be afraid of us and begins sabotaging their security feeds and communications. Wendy communicates with the freed Xenomorph and it enters the facility. Boy Kavalier visits the Hybrids and tells them about his childhood. Nibs kills Kavalier’s security soldier and as the Hybrids approach Kavalier, he runs away. Wendy tells Nibs to find Sylvia, Smee and Slightly to find Kirsh and Morrow, Curly to get the soldiers, while she goes after Boy Kavalier.

Kirsh, Kavalier, Eins, Morrow and Dame Sylvia are rounded up and imprisoned. Wendy tells Kavalier that he’s a mean, angry little man who decided to hate everybody. Curly asks Wendy what they do now and Wendy says they now rule.

Personality & Traits

Curly is grateful for the second chance at life given to her by Prodigy Corporation and is eager to prove her capabilities to the world. She is jealous of Wendy being Boy Kavalier’s favourite out of the Lost Boys and often strives to impress him. When Wendy and Hermit take Nibs with them to escape the island, Curly chooses to stay behind as she likes it there.

Behind The Scenes

Actress Erana James hadn’t seen any of the Alien films before she was cast. Once she was cast, her brother told her to watch every single film.

• As with other members of the Lost Boys, Curly’s name was inspired by J. M. Barrie’s Peter Pan.
