Biography
Early Life
Bjorn spent his early life on the mining colony Jackson’s Star located on the ringed planet LV-410. He is the cousin to Tyler and Kay. At some point before the events on the Renaissance station, his mother was killed when an android sacrificed her and two other miners so that a dozen other miners could live.
Renaissance Station
In 2142, Navarro detected a derelict Weyland-Yutani space station in orbit above Jackson’s Star. Tyler contacted Rain and asked her and Andy to meet them at his place. Tyler told Rain about a derelict space station and they could salvage the hypersleep chambers so they could leave Jackson’s Star for Yvaga. They needed Andy to communicate with the station’s computers.
Despite the risks of breaking into Weyland-Yutani property, Rain reluctantly agrees to the plan. The group leaves the planet in the Corbelan IV mining hauler and realise the derelict station in orbit is actually a research station called the Renaissance which includes two modules – Romulus and Remus. They dock at the station and Rain, Kay and Navarro stay behind while Tyler, Bjorn and Andy find the hypersleep chambers.
Tyler leads the search. Bjorn has a dislike for synthetics due to his mother having been killed and frequently belittles Andy. Bjorn tells Andy that he won’t be coming to Yvaga as Yvaga doesn’t grant synthetics residency. Tyler tries to protect Andy from Bjorn. They fix the gravity and atmosphere generators. They realise the hypersleep chambers don’t have enough fuel for the trip to Yvaga.
The group find a functioning cryo chamber and takes its fuel. In the process, frozen Facehuggers are thawed out and a lockdown is triggered, trapping the trio inside the room. Andy doesn’t have security clearance to override the doors so Navarro and Rain board the Renaissance to free them. Rain finds a damaged synthetic and removes the chip from its brain. She managed to pass it through the gap in the door to Tyler who inserted it into Andy. The chip gives Andy full access to the Renaissance systems. The chip also changes Andy’s primary mission which is now to serve Weyland-Yutani.
Numerous Facehuggers attack Tyler and Bjorn. Bjorn is almost facehugged but manages to fend off the creature. They escape the chamber but the Facehuggers break out and infect Navarro. The survivors are unable to remove the Facehugger so Rain reactivates the damaged synthetic they found earlier called Rook. Rook says Navarro cannot be saved and she will have an organism growing inside of her. Rain suggests freezing the Facehugger tail. The plan works and they remove the Facehugger. It scurries off but Rook warns that it still might have finished its objective.
Andy tries to stop Navarro from returning to the Corbelan IV but Bjorn helps her back to the spacecraft while Tyler, Rain and Andy remain behind. Navarro is killed when the Chestburster emerges. The Corbelan IV drifts off and Bjorn manages to see the Chestburster emerging out of Navarro. The Corbelan IV crashes into the Romulus hangar bay. The explosion further causes the Renaissance to edge further closer to the rings on Jackson’s Star and they have less than an hour to escape the station.
When Kay regains consciousness, she finds a creature’s skin and a cocoon on a wall nearby. Bjorn appears and tries to attack the creature in the cocoon with an electric prod he found earlier. The Xenomorph strikes Bjorn with its tail and acid from the creature spills onto Bjorn, killing him. His corpse, along with Navarro, is later dragged into a vent by the Xenomorph.
Personality and Traits
Bjorn is shown to have a dislike towards Andy and synthetics in general due to his mother having been inadvertently killed by a synthetic in the mines. Bjorn is frequently seen teasing and making fun of Andy. Bjorn cares for his adopted sister Navarro who he helped back to the Corbelan IV after she was attacked.
Behind-The-Scenes
Actor Spike Fearn auditioned quite late in the process and auditioned just a few months before filming started. He initially did his audition in an American accent but then they asked him do his own English accent. He then met with director Fede Alvarez three days later on Zoom as he was already out in Budapest preparing for filming. A few days later, Fearn was in Budapest.
In an alternative scene, Bjorn’s death is different. After attacking the Xenomorph in the cocoon, Bjorn walks off and is impaled by the Xenomorph’s tail.
Trivia
- Director Fede Alvarez said in an interview that the father of Kay’s baby was Bjorn.
