The upcoming Alien series by FX is planning to begin production sometime next year. The series has had a lengthy development, with effects studio Weta signed on to handle the Alien effects, which we exclusively revealed earlier this year.

During development there’s always a slew of concept art created for shows and films of this nature to help flesh out the world created in the script. We’re highly anticipating the first foray of Alien into a series, but it may be a little while yet before we see anything. So we thought we’d give you an early sneak peak!

[Exclusive/Spoilers] Here’s the First Concept Art From the FX Alien Series!

The concept art shows a Weyland-Yutani spaceship, the USCSS Maginot, crashed right in the middle of a city, cutting into the underground levels. The city is controlled by the Prodigy Corporation, a rival to Weyland-Yutani. The next piece depicts two soldiers within an industrial looking room. They’re approaching Xenomorph eggs in containers hiding within a cover of mist. Finally, we can see an adult Xenomorph snatching someone in a vertical shaft.

  1. MENTALDOMINANCE
I agree FARGO series is excellent. But I really don't like the idea of ALIEN on Earth, nor on TV.
The thing Ridley blew when he went back to the series is that the CREATURE IT'S SELF needs to look SCARY.
I was so pissed off with Covenant for going CGI, wtf were they thinking with that stupid back splitter scene and the
cartoonish creature? We live in 2022. We have so much tech, so many advances in latex, robotics, etc. yet NO ONE
seems to get the idea of just making a creature flick that has a MONSTER it's self which is SCARY and REAL.
Where the F is Rob Bottin? Someone needs to get him out of whatever stone he crawled under, get John Carpenter
and Dean Cundy and do a proper monster flick with actual prosthetic trickery, IN CAMERA magic, like the old days,
but using today's tech. Like how they make awesome retro games today that are like super versions of the old ones.
I can't stand 3D rendered characters. Use CGI for backdrops and editing and coloring but make your damn monsters
real... And what TV series is gonna be able to keep that up consistently? NONE. It is MOVIE material. You have to get
all the editing and lighting and story perfect and just give us a real monster movie, not a tv series, not pseudo bad
philosophy about the origins of man. I would actually like to have Ridley's prequels finished and I know how to do it too.
They can undo the entire wreck if they make the Engineers actually NOT be the Space Jockey.
They just designed their suits and look after them because they worship them and have the REAL, actual Space Jockey
creatures show up in the final one and kick everyone's ass. This can fix so many of the complaints, why the Engineers
in the suits aren't as big as the skeleton found in ALIEN, etc.
  2. MENTALDOMINANCE
They better scrap the idea of Earth. Everyone has known putting it on Earth is stupid, even back in the 90's they
knew not to put it on Earth when they had been toying with the idea.
The ALIEN series is about MYSTERY, ALIEN LANDSCAPES and NOT EXPLAINING THINGS.
Ridley decided to ruin the mystery of the Space Jockey by making him a humanoid in a bio-suit (dumbest idea ever),
now they want to put it on Earth so they can crank out cheap looking series that get their budget lowered every new
season as they endlessly milk the concept dead. Just stop it already. FFS.
  3. Gimitko
I also wonder about the cast. Hawley has an expert eye for casting, will he follow the Alien tradition of not hiring any "huge" names? The prototype actors for the two leads were Domhnall Gleeson and Danai Gurira. Usually prototypes dont mean that much, but he knows exactly what he wants, a lot of the Fargo actors were specifically sought out by him, so I wouldnt be suprised to see them as the leads. Plus Domhnall Gleeson is suspiciously free of projects, which makes sense if he thought filming would begin this year. Judging by the story details, the show is huge in scope, so a huge cast can be expected too.

The characters we know so far are:
Hermit - Medic for the private army of Prodigy
Wendy - 10 year old girl in the body of a superpowered soldier created by Prodigy
Kirsh - Synth who works for Prodigy and is a trainer and mentor to Wendy
Dame Sylvia - Scientist for Prodigy, also looks after Wendy
Boy Kavalier - Very young CEO of Prodigy
Atom Ein - Boy Kavaliers manipulative advisor

Absolutely no word on the crew of The Maginot, all the character details we know are about those working for Prodigy.

  4. Prez
I will say this - Hawley knows how to weave multiple threaded (and rather quirky, offbeat) storylines into a cohesive arc for a show as seen on Fargo across most of it's seasons.
  5. Digideus
I can't be the only one who thinks there's too much "wrong" with what I have heard already to give me any hope that this will be anywhere near good enough and we are going to end up with a convoluted show where the Xeno is secondary to a story arc about religion and artificial intelligence.

Basing it on earth is a massive no-no for me.  The fact is that once the Xeno reaches earth, It's game over for the human race.

Basing it on the Ridley Scott movies is also a terrible idea, although I will admit that there are plenty of threads in those films that could be developed into something better. Let's not forget, Ridley neither wrote the script nor the screenplay for the 79 movie, so I don't see why we keep giving him the reins to guide the future of the franchise.  Even the inclusion of an android in the original wasn't his idea!

Don't get me wrong, as an artistic director, Scott is untouchable, but as has been proven over and over again, as soon as he gets involved with the plot and screenplay of a project, it goes to pieces, mainly because he's always seeking to inject some pseudo religious arc into the proceedings.  Having his son on board doesn't necessarily mean Ridley will be involved, but I do fear his legacy will overshadow the proceedings.

Noah Hawley is a bit of an unknown in science fiction.  Yes, he did Legion, which was an interesting take on the X-Men character, And Fargo is up there with Twin Peaks as far as surrealist fiction goes, but if he's basing this on Scott's ideas for the future of the Alien franchise, will lead to "Raised by Wolves 2" meets "Pinnochio" via "Space Jesus".

Preferably, Id like to keep the series about the Xeno's.  Reference the Scott Movies if it makes sense, but not as the core premise for the entire show, and keep it as far away from Earth as possible.  Marvel/Disney have already written 3 comic arcs since taking on the franchise in comic form, so there are ideas being kicked around aplenty, and If we are going to see Walter/David appearance, then let's resolve that story and establish some ideas that expand the universe rather than try to turn it into some AI fuelled nightmare just because Ridley wants to remake a Kubrik movie.

Personally, I would like to see Hawley establish the Xeno's as "that goddam terrifying" and that the creature that the Engineers "worship" (from the Prometheus screenplay) that led to them making "The Black Goo" is actually one of the space jockey species, rather than just writing that creation off as nothing more than a cool-looking space suit for the big white dudes.  Establish ideas for the future, and have lots of existential terror, cosmic horrors and atmosphere instead of shooty shooty "acid for blood " moments
  6. Gimitko
Knowing Hawley, would 100% expect references or even plot threads relating to the Ridley Prequels. He straight up continued an unresolved plot thread from the original Fargo movie in his show, without bringing back any of its characters. Plus Landgraf saying all that "it exists in a larger universe" stuff.

    Scottfree Production
Luke Scott seems to be involved...

Doubt that he'd just undo his and his father's work in the prequels.

I'm expecting David and the Engineers to be respected but not directly referenced.
Maybe David will get a tiny cameo. A mini message aboard the ship that crashed, perhaps.
  8. Some Old Dude
I love how... traditional? It feels. Like I get there's a lot of bizarre elements with character names and the like and I'm sure Hawley has plenty of surprises up his sleeve but I don't mind the back to basics approach.

Also on concept art with the alien i think it is traped by two upgraded humans or whatever they are. You can see the whip in front and behind the Alien.
yeah they're still in time to retcon the david creator thing

and perhaps do away with the engineers, at last

Then you need to pay more attention to the news:

Quote"I don't know," she said. "Ridley has gone in a different direction. Maybe Ripley has done her bit. She deserves a rest."

Quote from: BlueMarsalis79 on Dec 13, 2021, 02:24:36 PMVanity Fair: What's next for you?

What's next for me, it looks like, an Alien series for FX, taking on that franchise and those amazing films by Ridley Scott and James Cameron and David Fincher. Those are great monster movies, but they're not just monster movies. They're about humanity trapped between our primordial, parasitic past and our artificial intelligence future—and they're both trying to kill us. Here you have human beings and they can't go forward and they can't go back. So I find that really interesting.

Where are you in that process?

I've written a couple of scripts, the first two scripts, and we're looking to make them next spring. When you get to something with this level of visual effects, there's a lot of preparation that has to go into it. What's been really illuminating is to see that the entire film industry had to take a year off and they are now trying to jam two years of production into one year. So it's very hard to look on the planet earth and see where you might make something in the next six months. Everyone is racing to make up for lost time. So, I figure let that bubble burst a little bit and we'll do it right.

Is there anything else you can share about it? Is it part of the Ripley story, or will it be original characters in a different time and place?

It's not a Ripley story. She's one of the great characters of all time, and I think the story has been told pretty perfectly, and I don't want to mess with it. It's a story that's set on Earth also. The alien stories are always trapped... Trapped in a prison, trapped in a space ship. I thought it would be interesting to open it up a little bit so that the stakes of "What happens if you can't contain it?" are more immediate.

Deadly things that can't be contained and the whole world at risk? Sounds relevant to the past year.

On some level it's also a story about inequality. You know, one of the things that I love about the first movie is how '70s a movie it is, and how it's really this blue collar space-trucker world in which Yaphet Kotto and Harry Dean Stanton are basically Waiting for Godot. They're like Samuel Beckett characters, ordered to go to a place by a faceless nameless corporation. The second movie is such an '80s movie, but it's still about grunts. Paul Reiser is middle management at best. So, it is the story of the people you send to do the dirty work.

How does that relate to your series?

In mine, you're also going to see the people who are sending them. So you will see what happens when the inequality we're struggling with now isn't resolved. If we as a society can't figure out how to prop each other up and spread the wealth, then what's going to happen to us? There's that great Sigourney Weaver line to Paul Reiser where she says, "I don't know which species is worse. At least they don't f**k each other over for a percentage."

Quote from: skhellter on Sep 03, 2022, 04:13:28 PMResurrection is likely to just get kicked out of the main continuity like AVP and AVPR.

Some elements from it might inspire bits in the show though.
Who knows, they may kick out Alien3 too! Wouldn't surprise me at all...

Would love it if they reprised Blomkamp's ideas too. Have Hicks and Newt as characters, grown up and with their traumas, as in Aliens Book One

Quote from: skhellter on Sep 03, 2022, 03:26:59 PMHere's hoping the xenos just take over the whole planet. (Explaining why Earth is f**ked in Resurrection)

I don't think that would make much sense. None of the Betty's crew knew anything about the alien (hence why Call had to explain it to them and why it was so dangerous to breed them), and general Perez also commented that ripley died wiping the species out forcing them to resort to cloning to get their hands on it. If the aliens had overrun earth, they'd be common knowledge and not so hard to come by...
  14. skhellter
i'm gonna be optimistic and say that the WY logo being the Aliens/Alien3 one is a purposeful choice that signals that timeframe this will take place in.

Here's hoping the xenos just take over the whole planet. (Explaining why Earth is f**ked in Resurrection)

Who knows.. maybe they'll even show the start of the Auton Rebellion.
  15. David Weyland
I think if Scott is involved the prequels lore will not (Thankfully for me) be trashed

Conceivable Plotline post Advent, David skills up & franchises his Covenant experiments and crashlands this ship into the Prodigy homies for his Weyland Yutani besties
  16. Kailem
See now Mike, you've got them all hyped up thinking that David or the Predators are going to show up when we know full-well it's just that the "Prodigy Corporation" is a placeholder for Tyrell.

    So it's really more like a 7.

But on a scale of 1 to 10

how f**king wild is the other spoilery concept art that you guys have seen?

I know there's an 11 or 12, maybe higher of a spoiler that I've heard about through the grape vine. But we will have to see how it plays out.

Oh my... crashed spaceship, pre-Alien timeline, a potential way to salvage the Ridley timeline established in the prequels perhaps? I mean, everything we have heard about this series has the "AI touch" that Ridley was very interested in with Prometheus, Covenant, pre-production into Blade Runner 2049 and pretty much his involvement in Raised by Wolves. He is executive producing this, right? Scott Free is involved, as I can see from some posts online. What a tease!
