My question is while PREDATOR Badlands has flopped and failed to meet its $250 million break-even, does home media save it or will the film be a "loss leader" for Disney? I've noticed my local ODEON is now showing only 3 performances per day.
Avp galaxy culls the weak.
For what it's worth, I did enjoy Badlands overall. Despite my gripes, it has a lot of charm and is endearing in its own way.
To reiterate I really enjoyed this film. It was so fun and exciting and a hell of a good time. I didn't mind Dek's design, and as you all mentioned his aesthetic(and the asthetic of Kwai and his father was great. Each felt like a unique individual. It makes sense. I loved LOVED Thia. Adorkable is a perfect way to put it. Bud I didn't mind so much.
My only real issues are that I thought Dek's father was going to play a larger role in the film. I was expecting more of a western. Dek and company traveling Gena while his father was stalking him. I've never EVER loved the Amengi backstory. Forever Midnight was blah. Didn't like it at all! It makes the predators as dumb space Orcs. Who cannot innovate. I think what draws me into the predators so much IS that they are an intelligent space faring race that STILL maintain its aggressive blood thirsty nature. That feels alien-like to me. That dichotomy is what I love.
My other grip is that i felt like Dek using Squirt was kinda hokey. I didn't love that plot moment.
I loved the Alien/ Weyland Yutani cross over. It feels so natural . As you've mentioned over and over again the predator is so versatile. You can drop it and any time or story and it works.
Anyhoo, once again thanks for that great podcast. Funny enough I've yet to receive my Disney pay check.
As a side note: what do you think of badlands box office performance at two weeks out?? I hope the thanksgiving weekend will help Badlands find its legs
Butters last line is me looking at those YouTube comments.
Yeah, tell us something we DON'T know, ammirite ?
Spoiler
I didn't like Bud very much and thought the cute baby alien thing took it a bit too far for me, however, I do recognise Bud us important to the story and isn't just there for the sake of it.
Hearing you guys talk about how successful it was on opening weekend and hoping it doesn't have a big drop off (obviously you'd recorded it before the second weekend), it needs to do well for us to see a new AvP etc, makes me sad knowing it lost steam at the box office after than decent opening weekend and it might struggle to make much money.
Thin?!
We're all shills down here.
Thinly veiled attempts to call you all shills.
