While we originally expected the sequel to Aliens: Fireteam Elite to come out late this year, apparently there has been a delay. Based on financial marketplace reporting from MarketScreener, Cold Iron’s sequel is now targeting a fall 2026 release, and will see additional investment both from the developer and its parent company Enad Global 7.
Game development company Enad Global 7 has announced that its subsidiary, Daybreak Games, will provide up to an additional $6.5 million to fund the development of Project Avo. The upcoming co-op action game, which is based on a well-known film franchise, is being developed by Cold Iron Studios. According to a press release, the launch window for the game has been moved to the third quarter of 2026.
Cold Iron Studios is a company in which Jason Epstein, Chairman of the Board at EG7, and Ji Ham, CEO of EG7, hold personal financial interests. As a result, the transaction is considered a related-party transaction under current corporate governance regulations. The investment has been reviewed and approved by EG7’s agreement oversight committee.
Cold Iron is expected to invest up to $1.2 million in the project.
Daybreak Games will recoup its increased investment, along with other investments in Cold Iron’s games, before profits from the game are shared between Daybreak Games and Cold Iron. The commercial terms between Daybreak Games and Cold Iron have been adjusted to reflect the higher investment.
Originally we knew the upcoming Aliens: Fireteam Elite sequel as Project Macondo, but the code name here is referred to as Project Avo. The sequel also recently had an ESRB rating listing pop up before being pulled. Given this new release window, we’d expect an announcement to be during this December’s Game Awards, or on Alien Day (April 26th) 2026.

Very much this. I enjoyed it on my first few, story-centric playthroughs, but once I got into maximising different builds for the higher difficulties, it became really addictive.
What's crazy is that I'm still getting slightly different lines of dialogue or alternate paths that I haven't encountered before on my fifth playthrough and beyond.
And the Queen run was pretty cool the first time.
Uh, AFE totally captures the movies. There're tons of references and Easter eggs, loads of lore, and I'm sorry - if outrunning an angry Xenomorph Queen while escaping from a disintegrating refinery doesn't strike you as tense, then you might want to check your pulse.
Even for a Horde Shooter, Fireteam Elite is pretty barebones. As an Aliens game, it is a total fail. Sure, it reasonably looks the part, visually. Like a professional mod may. But that's about it. Otherwise there is barely a single moment in here that captures the franchise nor the movie/s it tries to mimic. You could replace the aliens for zombies, it wouldn't make a difference. They didn't even go for the low hanging fruit, like incorporating moments of tension where the lights go out, or anything more elaborate in set pieces involving the trackers / welding tools / sentry turrets. Zero fs were given in tuning the genre formula to better suit the movie material.
Additionally, Fireteam makes Colonial Marines look like a hardcore CM sim. It's an Aliens game only if Michael Bay had directed the movie. I've been here for a while, my first Aliens games being back on Commodore 64+Amstrad. So I know the rocky history with 'em games based on 'em Aliens. But this ranks easily amongst the laziest of them all. It's technically reasonably well made, but it lacks any kind of ambition, wonder -- or even the tiniest bit of tension. Like it had been another zombie horde em up before Fox came in and asked for a reskin.
Another alternative is that they've gone with another IP entirely, but I really hope that isn't the case.
I hope it's the former.
