Director Dan Trachtenberg, as part of the press tour following the release of Predator: Badlands has recorded yet another spoiler-filled interview with the Heroes Reforged Podcast this time.
Polishing Audio & VFX for the Theatrical Formats & Home Release
Trachtenberg reveals how having the film available for different theatrical formats has led to the ability to still focus on polishing certain visual and audio elements even after specific formats have been shipped to theaters, though he remembers being allowed to patch in the most recent changes before the film was officially shown in theaters. He does mention how there is still time to added the most minor of effects tweaks for the home release:
For home video even too, there’s still more time to do (tweak) different things.

The reason this is of note is that for the eagled eyed viewers, the home release for Alien: Romulus had a few prominent effects additions of blood and polish to Rook’s face. The audio and visual effects are quite good in Predator: Badlands though, so we can presume that the CGI polish will be minimal. It is an interesting trend that even films now are getting the video game treatment of being patched after release. At the same time, there are some effects from our beloved pre CGI films where we could have wished for such a practice.
Changing Dek’s Lines
We were rewriting the movie over and over and over again to make it the best it could possibly be and it would have been much easier to say, “Well, it’s a madeup language. Just change the subtitles, we don’t know what that word means anyway” but Britain put a lot of hard work into it and made it all make sense. And thank you to the studio for embracing the extra work and finances that it took.

Noah Hawley Reaching Out
We know from before how Trachtenberg and Álvarez had previously spoken to each other and were on friendly terms. Trachtenberg makes it very clear how much he enjoyed Alien: Romulus, but also Alien: Earth so far, since he just started watching it. The interesting thing is that Noah Hawley seems to have reached out to Trachtenberg directly:
Noah Howley reached out when he saw our trailer and was like, “You’re doing stuff with Weyland-Yutani, we should be talking” and he sent over some cuts of Alien: Earth at that time. It was only probably a couple of months before it actually came out.
Trachtenberg confirms that they’re all trying not to step on each other’s toes regarding any overlap. It is of note, though, that in our interview we did with Fede Álvarez, he mentions how he tried to do the same thing with reaching out to Hawley and no one returned his calls. Timeline-wise wise that was a lot earlier in the show’s production and knowing the questionable commitment of the show to any continuity whatsoever, the desire for coordination could’ve been a later decision by the showrunner. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Blu-Ray Features Sneak Peek
There’s a whole sequence of where the leg fight originated. It was originally at some other spot in the movie. So fun. One of my favorite parts.

As another one, I do think that was leaning more into the "pretty glaring" level of obviousness, but fair enough, sometimes you just trip over stuff anyway.
As an autistic person myself, it can be difficult to tell sometimes.
I think he was being sarcastic.
Hell no! That man and his wife needs to stay away from any famous IPs
As if Noah gives a f**k about continuity with the movies now and sees himself as being in charge of the current main Alien canon.
Stay in your lane, Noah. Do your stupid TV show about a dozen other things with a side of pet XX121's and let the movies do their own thing.
Some people really want this to be in it's own canon and adhere to that notion, and when the show inevitably shows that this isn't the case they will be very disappointed.
On the whole, this was a really great interview. Super excited by how this movie is going over with wide audiences and it's been great seeing Dan get to enjoy that reception and chat about the film a bit more in depth lately.
Ben Rosenblatt sir you can make it happen in believe in you.
