Maybe they tried to disengage it thinking it would kill the eggs but one section was accidentally left on which led to the events of the first movie.

    Please god no.

After all the absurdity (and complete disregard for Alien films) brought by the prequels and Romulus, I wouldn't be surprised at all. Actually I think now this is exactly how it's going to be.
This would be the final nail in the coffin, Ripley's arc and sacrifice erased like it never meant anything. But yay, cool monsters and robots I guess.

Visually, the trailer looks good. If they manage to keep the series as a stand alone event and not include any of that crap mentioned above, I'll watch and pay for it.

One of my favorite things about this teaser is the shot of what appears to be the slums or people protesting in a lower-class section of Prodigy City, ..which is then correlated with the next shot, which happens to be an individual spectating from above in a high-rise tower.  This really shows that not only is WEYU a corporate slaver, but Prodigy might be as well.

Also season 2, trying to go back to where they found the Xeno. It's genius really! A whole new set of characters given the same question mark. Where is this thing from? It could offer something far more satisfying and coherent than Lindelof's effort. Man I'm excited about all of this.

Another bullseye. The more I think about this the more I'm convinced that if this show is a hit and runs for a few seasons we can right all the wrongs of trying to expand the universe and answer unanswered questions, sometimes even answers to questions no one asked, in a film format that gives too little time to do all of that properly. There be Xenos here so that removes that David equation and we can use this series to draw in the blanks of the space jockey, engineers everything without any retcon. If handed the right way it could fix all that and create an exciting franchise freed from Ripley.
