Pause the teaser at 0:26 to spot a hidden glyph nodding to the Predator language, developed by the same linguist who created Na'vi for Avatar. It's a reminder that even small details are powered by specialized tech and creative world-building.

Eh what? 0:26 is the shot of Thia in the tree

Yeah, odd. The only "glyph," if you can even call it that, is the Weyland-Yutani logo in her eyes. Maybe the author of the article was a bit mixed up there on what, exactly, the Predator language looks like?

The prior shots at 00:24/00:25 features some Predator glyphs on Dek's gear, but those aren't exactly "hidden..."

QuoteThis first Badlands teaser doesn't just tease a bold narrative twist: it showcases how far production tech has advanced.

Wireless, Marker-Less Motion Capture: Actors wear lightweight inertial sensors, letting the young Predator's fluid, animalistic movements be captured in unencumbered environments—far removed from the tethered setups of early CGI hybrid films.

Unreal Engine 5 & Real-Time Rendering: Lush jungle vistas and alien architecture are pre-visualized and even partially shot on LED volume stages, using in-camera VFX (influenced by ILM's StageCraft) to give actors and crew seamless immersion on set.

AI-Assisted Texture & Lighting: Procedural shading and AI-driven denoising speed up photorealistic skin detailing on Dek's armor, while advanced ray tracing brings hyper-realistic reflections and shadows to every leaf and Predator dreadlock.

Spatial Audio in Dolby Atmos: Sound designer teams employ object-based mixing so the Predator's iconic roar moves around the theater, with sub-bass frequencies delivered through dedicated LFE channels to rattle your chest.

Pause the teaser at 0:26 to spot a hidden glyph nodding to the Predator language, developed by the same linguist who created Na'vi for Avatar. It's a reminder that even small details are powered by specialized tech and creative world-building.

As Predator: Badlands marches toward its November 2025 release, it stands as a testament to how evolving technology—from AI-driven VFX pipelines to real-time LED stagecraft—continues to redefine action horror. And this time, the galaxy's deadliest hunter has become the hero of his own story.

Quote from: Nightmare Asylum on May 16, 2025, 06:43:42 PMNext month feels way too soon for a second trailer. We just got this one less than a month ago, and the movie doesn't release until November.
Perhaps, and it also depends on how hard they want to do marketing. I've seen official trailers go from #1, #2, and Final trailers with additional behind the scene bits here and there for other films. Maybe, maybe not, but seeing how Predator is back on the big screen, I doubt they want to keep the iron cold.

It does look like the predator that his crawling away from the elder, possibly Deks brother, has dreads on his crest like Dek, since in the shot that pans down from the elder to him crawling, you can see his dreads on the side being divided by the tips of the crest!

Ewww 60fps. How is it that someone that's going to upload the trailer like that managed to get the extended footage?
I don't think they've done anything funky with the framerate, seems to still be 24fps but just reported as 60 on YT

That or I need my eyes checked

Honestly, I never even watched it when I saw the title. Just skipped to a few different timestamps to to see which version of the trailer it was.

I have such an aversion to those 60fps/HFR YouTube uploads of movie clips that I basically just don't take any chances anymore.

Saw the (slightly extended) version of the trailer on the big screen for the first time today when I went to see Thunderbolts*. Played so well on the big screen, it looks phenomenal. Getting really giddy with excitement over this one, honestly.

The details in the masks in Badlands seem to at least be there to differentiate the individuals, while in The Predator the emissaries where going to wear the exact same hi tech mask as fugitive!

If that is Dek, and it likely is, that mask has some really interesting detailing to it. IMO less distracting and awkward than the mask in The Predator.

Funny how I (sort of) get Fugitive Predator mask design vibes from Elder Predator here in Badlands. It's mainly the small red lights around the helmet, which I didn't mind with the Fugitive design or anything.

I don't hate the masks in The Predator, but they just felt busy for busy's sake to me. The masks in Badlands have that extra bit of context that they're in the future. So, you can make them more complex if you want.

Looking at the blurry details on the mask that Deks brother wears, the mask being taken out of the container full of sand might be his!

So the hands grabbing the mask might not belong to Dek, but his brother instead.

Or, perhaps, Dek might end up using his brother's mask later on in the film? Maybe his brother dies?

I think that the brother dying might be a given, since we see a predator with a missing arm and I don't think that they would show Dek dying in the trailer!

This unironically leads to a little bit of my critique of Predator armor currently. It's looking too sleek, streamlined, and clean. When you look at the old films and even in the AVP films, the armor looks forged rather than manufactured. It's weathered yet stands strong. I love the new details like the bronze and gold color accents, but it feels like the rest of the base form is leaning too much on the sterilized future look that the sci-fi genre is falling into these days.

Like perhaps if Fugitive's armor gotten some wear on it, I'd feel a bit less on the direction.

Apart from the gauntlets that look similar with all the predators in Badlands, the rest of the armours shown in the trailer don't really look like generic sci-fi armour, they look way more inspired by viking and fantasy armour, compared to the iron man looking fugitive!

Pretty sure he's more talking about the aging/pitting/scratches Predator armour has historically had lots of than the base designs.

I forgot how stupid the side profile of fugitives head looked, there's too much space between where the mask starts and where the crest ends!

The mask just looks so droopy on the head.

Idk guys but, to me it seems the elder predator in the trailer has rather a small head too, don't you think? I am trying to be ok with Dek's "humanoid" head because of the fact that he is supposed to be very young. But, if I see that this elder also has a small head then this will bother me a lot....

Quote from: Coolertonic7 on May 08, 2025, 01:37:17 AMThe new elder predators armour looks like it's following the berserker and feral style of integrating bones to the armour!

Same with the bike, really interesting to see more trophy's integrated into their tech. This movie is for sure going to have some fun, bordering on Kenner style, figures. So long as the folks who have the license, NECA/whoever else, gets their act together.

Honestly, it would perhaps been nice for the cloak to have some great unique art to them to help separate from Star War's plan browns. Throw some fur, scaled leather, pauldrons on it like Ezio from Assassin's Creed 2, color accents, tribal designs to em. Give it some personality.

It's iconic sure but that just doesn't belong to them. Also adventures in space also not exclusive to them either. Guess that's the benefit to not touching the series, I just don't get that aftertaste.

Speaking as a big Star Wars fan here, I just don't see any real Star Wars influence on this thing at all.

I do see some points of overlap in what influenced George Lucas and what is influencing Badlands, for sure, but not really any direct crossover in the end result. I know I'm a broken record at this point, but there is so much more of the Riddick franchise in Badlands than there really seems to be Star Wars in it.
