An interesting documentary has been released today taking a look back at the Alien War attraction. Alien War first hit the UK in Glasgow in 1992 before moving to London, in the Trocadero centre, a year later. The attraction proved very popular at the time. But unfortunately, Alien War closed in 1996 after a flood.
The 20 minute documentary, produced, written and directed by Paul King, explores the London version of the attraction. The documentary features new audio interviews with Gary Gillies and John Gorman, co-creators of Alien War, as well as Maria Bergman and Doug McCarthy – two of the Colonial Marine actors.
As you went through Alien War, you would be brought into a ‘facility’ by an actor playing a Colonial Marine. In the middle of the briefing, it would be interrupted by another marine who informed them that there had been a stasis breach in the xenomorph containment section of the base.
The Marines then had to lead the group through the base and out to safety. The group were led through a winding maze of dimly lit corridors designed to resemble the colony complex from Aliens. At certain moments the group was subjected to attacks from alien warriors, fought off by the armed marines.
The intention of the maker of the documentary is to hopefully make a much longer documentary about the complete history of the Alien War attraction. From our archives, you can read our 2007 interview with co-creator Gary Gillies as he was preparing to resurrect Alien War. It later re-opened for a short time in Glasgow in 2008.
HMV is now an illegal sweet shop.
Sigh...n of the times.
Brilliant doco. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Many thanks 🫡
There was some chatter on Facebook last year about Alien War being revived. I really hope they bring it back.
