Dane Hallett Shares New Alien Romulus Chestburster & Mutated Rat Concept Art

Alien Romulus’s fantastic creature concept artist Dane Hallett has continued to share new pieces of concept art from his work on the Saturn Award-winning film. In some recent uploads to his Instagram page, Dane has shared some early explorations for the film’s incarnation of the chestburster.

It was important to add something without detracting from all the lore that had come before. So, I tried to see how an embryonic sack might be included and then the rapid pigment shift as a means of establishing the creature’s uncanny ability to mature.

He also shared a number of concepts for the corpse of the rat that was mutated by compound Z-01.

At one point the black goo is administered to a rat in a containment device (animated by the mighty Phil Tippet). Later, we observe the powerful mutagenic effects of the material in a scene reminiscent of one from Species (which I also enjoy). It also represented another opportunity for me to weave my love of The Thing into something, a habit I try to indulge in any chance I get.
