Katherine Waterston Talks Possiblity of Return to Alien Franchise

With her upcoming series The Agency set to debut on Paramount+ on the 29th of November, Katherine Waterston has been making the press rounds to discuss the new thriller series. The Alien Covenant actress’s return to the Alien franchise was discussed while talking to The Playlist when Sir Ridley Scott’s recent comments about developing a new Alien film were brought up.

“That’s so overwhelmingly exciting to me, that he might do another, even if [Daniels] bit the dust in that cryo-pod, I would be so excited for him to do another. I would love to be a part of it. I’d love to work with him again. He’s an incredible person, a legend in our time, and a wonderful collaborator.”

Ruminating on whether her character Daniels might still be alive, Waterston remained hopeful she could return if the franchise ever went back to the prequel narrative.

“I personally—and maybe this is just because I’m selfish— but I saw a way that [Daniels] make it out of there. I also always felt with that storyline that she was a budding hero, that in that film she was discovering she sort of had what it took to rise up but didn’t really get to yet. So, I mean, I would love to do it. But if it just comes to me being there with my popcorn, I’ll be there opening weekend.”

Though many outlets have taken Scott’s comments to mean he is developing another Alien film, it’s more likely that he is just referred to working with Fede Alvarez to develop the sequel to Alien Romulus as he did with the previous film.

Waterson’s Alien Covenant co-star Michael Fassbender is also appearing alongside her in The Agency and has also been asked about his thoughts on returning to the Alien franchise. However, Fassbender didn’t have much to say on the topic, stating that he doesn’t “really think about” it.

“I was very lucky, I feel, to work with Ridley Scott. I love him; we did 3 films together. If he wants to go for another one, I’m always there to work with him. He’s a master, but I don’t really think about it.”
