Last week we were shown our first glimpse of the new Predator on the set of the upcoming film Predator: Badlands. This was part of a preview for an issue of Empire going through some sneak peeks of 2025 movies. While the image itself wasn’t too revealing, only showing its out of focus dreadlocks and shoulder from behind, we did learn that the Predator would serve as a protagonist this time around.
The 2025 preview issue of Empire has now been released, and though the snippet doesn’t include any new images, it does contain some intriguing tidbits including that Predator: Badlands will take place on another world!
Shooting took place mostly in New Zealand, posing for an alien planet. “We had phenomenal locations,” says the director.
Some fans had already speculated that another planet might be the case, given some of the unique coastal and forest environments we saw from some behind the scenes images we reported on a while back. Check out a few of those photos below snapped by the film’s crew:
This will be the second Predator film set on a planet other than earth, after 2010’s Predators.
Director Dan Trachtenberg also spoke on the film’s tone in comparison to Prey.
“Prey tapped into that adventure-move spirit, but this goes further. There’s more ‘fun’ and ‘funny’ in it, but it’s way darker than Prey, too.”
When asked if he felt any pressure following up his critically acclaimed 2022 film Prey, Trachtenberg expressed confidence.
“That’s one thing I’m not scared of, because I know audiences are driven by new experiences. And this [Movie] is a brand -new experience.”
With the exosolar future setting now confirmed, we have to wonder if Badlands will indeed be showing any glimpses of the Alien Universe, perhaps stealthily setting up that future AVP film that 20th Century Studios head Steve Asbell alluded to.
