The Predator (2018) Reaching Surprisingly High Viewership Numbers on Netflix

Recently coming to Netflix on October 8th 2024, 2018’s The Predator has quickly found itself with surprising success on the streaming platform.

Critically mixed and marred by controversy upon release, 2018’s The Predator did not have the success then 20th Century Fox was hoping for. Though the film opened number one at the box office with a less than expected 24 Million, returns dropped 76% on the movie’s second weekend. 

For the week of October 7th through the 13th, The Predator was number 2 on the Netflix global movie charts, racking up an impressive 12,900,000 views and 23,300,000 hours watched.

These numbers are internationally as the movie isn’t on Netflix in the United States, where it is already available on Disney’s streaming service Hulu.

The film’s co-writer, Fred Dekker, mentioned the film’s recent success on his Facebook page:

Though the subsequent Predator film Prey was received much more strongly, The Predator still holds curiosity among fans. The film had some wild unused alternate endings that were shot, and sizable reshoots changed much of the third act of the film. Some are still calling for a release of the ‘Emissary/Black’ cut which was shown during some earlier test screenings. Though it’s unlikely, with this newfound interest in the film, we can only wonder if perhaps 20th Century Studios might take fan interest for an alternate cut under consideration.

The sixth mainline Predator film (not counting the AVP movies), under the working title of ‘Badlands’, recently completed filming in New Zealand and is expected to release sometime next year.
