The fantastic Dane Hallett has shared more concept artwork from his time designing for Alien: Romulus! His latest upload is a look at the exploration taken while designing the cocoon that the Echo probe finds Big Chap secured within.
Desperate to get this over the line, you can see I explored a ton of variants until finally sculpting one in the garage (which you can see at the end of the deluge of images) and it finally won.
In the end, in order to get the shape just right, I boiled a Neca figure in a pot of water til it was jelly like. Then I bound it in rubber bands and cling wrap before smothering it in Monster clay.
Then I realised got paid to do so and immediately hi-fived the 8yr old that lives inside me.
We’ve been collecting all the artwork that the talented artists that worked on Alien: Romulus have been sharing in our gallery. Be sure to head on over to check it out!

I absolutely love the elongating of the head in those first few images. Don't love the full-on Alien underneath ripping out., though.
more concept art of the Offspring turning into a xenomorph
Still it really could have been a bit better lit and a bit more obvious. As it was the Legendary Big Chap. Also when he's hanging he looks particularly skinny and scrawny.
In terms of design, it's a bit ambivalent. On the one hand I like the craziness of such designs but in this case I would have liked it not to be as light-skinned and rather dark like some of Giger's drawings.
When I first saw it I really thought it was CGI. I found the resolution that it was actually a person in a costume all the more impressive.
Some of the concept arts for the alternative xenos are really bad and I'm glad it wasn't used.
I think all the designs of the world building and the spaceships as well as the station are sensationally good.
