Alien: Romulus Box Office Opening Weekend Projections

Alien: Romulus Box Office Opening Weekend ProjectionsReportsĀ indicate thatĀ Alien: Romulus might earn $28 million to $38 million during its opening weekend. Some outlets including Box Office Pro previously reported that Alien: Romulus might earn up to $50 million in its opening weekend in the United States.

Variety reported yesterday that the box office takings for Alien: Romulus in its opening weekend are likely to be $28 million to $38 million. That would put the film in the same ballpark as 2017’s Alien Covenant and 2004’s Alien vs Predator but below the franchise record-holder Prometheus which earned $51 million in its opening weekend.

We also have our first indication of the budget for Alien: Romulus. Variety lists the budget as $80 million before marketing costs. For reference, here are the opening weekends of the previous Alien movies before inflation.

Movie Year Opening Weekend Budget
Alien 1979 $3.5M $11M
Aliens 1986 $10M $18.5M
Alien 3 1992 $19M $50M
Alien Resurrection 1997 $16M $75M
AvP 2004 $38M $60M
AvP Requiem 2007 $10M $40M
Prometheus 2012 $51M $130M
Alien Covenant 2017 $36M $97M
Alien: Romulus 2024 $28M-$38M Estimate $80M

Alien: Romulus
is the only film opening this weekend so it should get the number one spot fairly easily. Second place will go to either Deadpool & Wolverine and It Ends With Us.

Deadpool & Wolverine is slated to earn an additional $25 million to $27 million in its fourth weekend. The Marvel film recently passed the $1 billion mark at the global box office.

I hope it does well, hoping it's a terrific profit that proves the Alien franchise is still relevant and that there's a demand for good stories set in this world.
I believe Aliens dunks on all of them for tickets sold.

I'm hopeful it does well just so that they're confident to continue the franchise theatrically.  We'll see if I end up liking the movie after I go tomorrow.  :)

It needs to be at the high end so they will have faith in making more, solid reviews will help,Twisters overperformed recently as did the new Blake Lively drama last weekend and Longlegs surpassed all predictions so i'm hopeful..

I think its going to knock it out of the park. Summer blockbuster alien film with some serious advertising and marketing. We will all see the success.
