Updated: New Alien: Romulus Reels/Shorts Spots Show Spoilery Footage!

The marketing for Alien: Romulus is at full thrusters as we’re now less than two weeks away from the release of the film! We’ve started to see more TV spots, international trailers, and clips showing us more of what we can expect when we finally go on the terrifying journey with this group of young Jackson’s Star colonists.

Recently posted as short form video spots to Instagram Reels and YouTube shorts, there are three new adverts, two of them highlighting Romulus’ place in the wider Alien universe. The first video even utilizes the original tagline for the 1979 film, ‘A word of warning’, before the film ultimately went with the more well known ‘In space, no one can hear you scream’. The second shows off when Romulus takes place during the Alien timeline, and the third illuminates on connections with the original film.

Some of what is shown and heard here hasn’t really been shown off before, so beware spoilers!

Check out the spots below:

Really don't know why they decided to blow their load in these last few weeks.
Maybe the statistics on pre-orders are very small

It's actually been tracking very well.

Yeah, I'm somewhat surprised/disappointed myself. They'd been so damn restrained, and I'd been enjoying the pace of what we got. They just completely went to town on these tv-spots.
If you get the chance to get Fede on the podcast or sit down for some interviews. I would absolutely love if you guys asked him how he personally felt about the last few weeks leading up to release after the teaser and first trailer came out. No way he can be happy about this. I feel like he's ripping his hair out as each of these spots releases. We still have a week left who knows what craziness they will show next!

Yeah, I was thinking about asking about his perspective on marketing when he comes on. :)

Quote from: Mike's Monsters on Aug 06, 2024, 06:08:51 PMDirectors don't actually get a lot of say on how their movie is marketed. Once the cut is done, it's out of their hands. It's frustrating to see as someone who gave notes on things not to share, but I'm assuming it was a different marketing team than I was partnered with making most of what we've seen. It's definitely the studio wanting to course correct and show this is definitely an ALIEN movie after the last two entries in the series kind of left people feeling burned.
Truly unfortunate. I would really like to know how Fede feels after all these released spoilers since he himself said he wanted fans to be surprised

They want even the most casual movie goer to attend. Those who are not hc fans or that deep into the Alien universe.

And seems like it's working for them. Can only imagine the numbers will climb faster after these ads.

I don't mind it since no one is forcing me to watch these ads.

I'm just so confused why would marketing do this if the sales are good and the director himself didn't want a lot revealed.

I would love an interview with Fede asking how he feels about everything released after the initial trailer and teaser cause this is just freaking ridiculous.

I feel bad for the guy they did so good keeping everything a secret and these panzees have ruined some of that hard work within 2 weeks after years of development. Very unfortunate.

Can't imagine Alvarez is happy about this

This is starting to look a mess. So Ash was in constant messages to Weyland-Yutani and he didn't give the coordinates to the Alien Signal or at the very least the landing site of the Nostromo? Why wouldn't he have done that? Seems very poor for a android under company order to get this Alien.

If it's the hugger at the very beginning, that clip was in all the first look/behind the scenes clips that came out about a month back or so. This is pretty much the same video, with just different subtitles to match the language of the country it's being shown to.

It looked like a storage room, it was dark and the hugger smacks againt the window when someone peeps in.

Thank you Cruentus for pointing out scientific inaccuracies. It seems that most people still cannot comprehend the insane size and distances involved in galaxies and the universe as a whole.

If you're traveling at faster-than-light speed and your sensors pick up an object ahead of you, before you can respond it is literally millions of miles BEHIND you. Even Star Trek, which I love, was constantly guilty of this sort of thing.

Infinity War might be the biggest offender: the 6 infinity stones were sent "hurtling through the universe" yet they are all found in one small quadrant of one of BILLIONS of galaxies. Sure that happened.

So yes there is no way "Big Chap" (I HATE that nickname, doesn't even sound scary) is ever found. It would be like searching the entire globe for a grain of sand that was randomly put somewhere.

I haven't watched anything for 2 weeks and think it's wise once I see spoilers in the headline I stop watching and reading,I learned my lesson after Alien Covenant where almost every story beat or scary scene was shown in the trailer,I want surprises.

I can't understand all these videos on YouTube spoiling everything and picking every tiny detail apart.

    "4DX is for B-movies!"

Thank you! Geez, if you lot were in a room together irl we wouldn't need another alien film we could just let the camera roll on all the drama! 😂

Considering they're reverse engineered from Big Chap I'd say they have even less of an in universe explanation than usual.

Honestly I thought the opposite. It makes more sense in my head that a wholly artificial lifecycle without an original egg/queen would look and act significantly different. That's just an in-universe justification though.

In reality..... you would have thought that after 45 years SOMEONE would have realised they nailed it the first time around and constantly trying to redo and remix an already perfect design is a fool's errand. Alas, egos are gonna ego.

BC in a fossilised state may be a protection mechanism to being cast adrift, like hibernation mode, who knows how long it can survive like that.

I think BC may have eventually drifted into the orbit of a nearby planet, and WY just found it by scanning nearby planets, maybe with mining ships.

I also think WY did go to the derelict and surgically removed the facehuggers and placed them in stasis in romulus. A synthetic or robot could safely remove the hugger without danger. This could be where the trailers for romulus tie in as the blue mist that was on the derelict is present and looks to trigger the facehuggers. WY must have replicated the engineer tech.

That shot has something to do with a scene Fede describes in an interview as being something (paraphrasing) "never having been done before in humanity".  I could swear it's related to Kay and the "disgusting" scene, but in my limited searching I haven't been able to find the article linking them that I read at the time, so I could just be conflating things in my head, but I did just find the former article again a few days ago.

It's all explained. You just have to know where to look... the company knew about lv-426 before the Prometheus mission (is in the extras on the blu ray), they checked it out in alien, replaced science officer with ash days before they left thedus, then isolation, the mission where you turn the beacon off. The colony on lv-426 was put there but the mountain range shielded the derelict (with non functioning beacon), hence refinding it when Ripley got found. As for finding big chap, it would be relatively easy if the company was specifically combing the area for it - they would of known where it blew up so would of started there and I expect they have super amazing equipment to scan for stuff, it's not stated yet whether big chap was alive or dead but from tidbits I've read, he was dead or as good as and they reverse engineered Facehuggers etc from him/his body.

I wonder how many aliens we will actually see on the station as if it was over run then the whole crew on board the station would be dead incubators. Also the shots with bloody cryo tubes...

Personally I cannot wait for the film to burst out of our screens.
