Marvel has just announced they will release a prelude one-shot for Alien: Romulus! Marvel will be bringing out an Alien: Romulus comic one-shot on October 16th that “tackles one of the film’s lingering mysteries.”
Simply titled, Alien: Romulus, the one-shot will be written by Zac Thompson, who previously worked on Absolute Carnage: Avengers and was drawn by Daniel Picciotto.
The film is about a group of scavengers who encounters a Xenomorph aboard a space station. This comic will take place before the events of the film and provides a backstory for the film’s main threat. Writer Zac Thompson worked closely with Alien: Romulus writers Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues to write the companion piece.
The main cover is on the left which is done by Leinil Francis Yu while the second one is the variant cover by German artist Björn Barends, both of whom have worked on numerous Marvel comics.
Here’s Marvel’s press release:
Following next month’s theatrical release of Alien: Romulus, the latest installment in the groundbreaking Alien film franchise, Marvel Comics will proudly present an ALIEN: ROMULUS comic one-shot in October that tackles one of the film’s lingering mysteries.
On sale in October, ALIEN: ROMULUS #1 will be written by horror master Zac Thompson (ABSOLUTE CARNAGE: AVENGERS) and drawn by rising star Daniel Picciotto (DANNY KETCH: GHOST RIDER, X-FORCE). The upcoming film will take Alien storytelling back to its roots with a thrilling saga of young space colonizers coming face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.
Marvel’s one-shot will take place prior to the events of the film, providing an illuminating backstory behind the film’s main threat. Made in close partnership with Director Fede Alvarez and frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues, both of whom wrote Alien: Romulus, the comic is a must-have companion to one of the most highly anticipated films of the summer.
Marvel Comics presents an all-new story revealing secrets of the film’s legendary antagonists and this issue shines light on them all!
“The Alien franchise is responsible for my lifelong love of body horror, so needless to say, I’m ecstatic to be contributing a small piece to the canon,” Thompson shared. “Working with Fede Alvarez to craft a prequel to Alien: Romulus was a genuine dream come true and a responsibility I don’t take lightly. The result is a thrilling, terrifying story that slowly gestates into something wholly unpredictable.”

Yes I agree whole heartedly. I would rather have Dark Horse Comics do the prequel comic than marvel.
I could get behind the xenos having technology. O'Bannon originally had the Xeno as intelligent and having a civilization on LV426 in his backstory to Alien.
Add that to the fact that this director wanted to recon 3 and Resurrection because Newt and Hick Died. Even if those two later, movies weren't as good as the first two and the third one isn't that bad with inclusion of the "Directors" cuts.
As for the Derelict being made out of "human DNA" by the Aliens, it's silly/out there but also, it's the element from Blomkamp's overall concept that I found to be the most interesting. I'd be curious to learn more about that piece of the puzzle. I'm sure it wouldn't have been particularly good, but it's way more interesting/wild a concept than I would have expected from a movie that otherwise seems to have had the aspiration to be an adaptation of the Kenner Aliens stuff, more or less.
Hence me saying this the existence of a prequel, a la Predators, confirms the inevitable existence of a sequel as well.
Hell, Blomkamp already made their job easier for them!

Alien: Romulus sequel comic featuring Goro Alien confirmed, then.
Oh, that's really sad.
I fully expected that a making of or art book would come. Maybe there is still hope and they want to wait and see how the film does at the box office.
I definitely think that's better than a making of being released earlier than the film. This was the case with Alien Resurrection in 1997.
The making of came out earlier than the film and presented the design of the Newborn in all its glory.
Awful. This is so Marvel. Not into their take at all.
Just my opinion. Marvel have no subtly or style
Speaking of Titan, ehem, novelization.. hint, hint...

Spoiler
Yeah, I admit I was quite surprised! I really wasn't expecting any kind of tie-in at all considering the lack of news about Titan releases. With the October release date, I have to wonder if this was a late decision.
So I'm guessing the antagonist the release is talking about may be

The red cover is giving me serious Shin Godzilla vibes.
