Fede Alvarez Shares Multiple Alien: Romulus Behind-the-Scenes Pictures!

Alien: Romulus writer & director Fede Alvarez took to Twitter/X yesterday to share a handful of tantalizing behind-the-scenes pictures from his upcoming film!

"I have a few fun fact and tests for you Alien fans out there about our film #AlienRomulus here we go:" Fede Alvarez Shares Multiple Alien: Romulus Behind-the-Scenes Pictures!

First up, Fede shared a picture of one of the Alien: Isolation inspired save point “emergency” phones that had been spotted when the director dropped the first set picture from Alien: Romulus way back on Alien Day in 2023!

"If while watching #AlienRomulus , you see one of these (and there are many…) what do you think it means?" Fede Alvarez Shares Multiple Alien: Romulus Behind-the-Scenes Pictures!

Following this, the director shared a short video of an “exterior” set of the Jackson’s Star colony.

The next picture that Fede Alvarez shared took us inside the USCSS Corbelan IV, stating that while she “is quite an old ship, except for a few new mods, like the newly installed Airlock panel. What other ship had this same system?!”

And to finish the tease of behind-the-scenes images, Fede Alvarez also shared an image of the practical model of the USCSS Corbelan IV.

This is the Corbelan IV built by the legendary Ian Hunter and his team.

Ian Hunter also worked on Alien: Resurrection and was responsible for building the Betty. At the recent Footage Presentation that Alien vs. Predator Galaxy had the pleasure of attending, Fede Alvarez had explained that a practical model of the Corbelan was built but then later scanned digitally for use in the film, much like how Mandalorian also shot its scenes featuring spaceships.

Responding to a question about who designed the Corbelan, Fede responded that artist Matthew Savage was the talent behind the design of Alien: Romulus’ addition to the fleet of spacecraft in the Alien universe! Speaking of his work on the ship, Matt said:

The ship, interior and exterior were my main responsibilities, conceptually, on the movie, weeks and months of work honing in on Fede’s vision (his main feedback to the concept art was always “more Nostromo design language please”).

I like the design of the ship.
    nice and chunky and rugged.
is that a Ripley Neca figure on top? Maybe for size comparison.

And I particularly like the new landing gears. I mean the one with the boots near the yellow ladder :)
Already reserved tickets for friends and me. Sneak preview 14.8.
If things turn out well, we'll go in at least once more.

The Set of Jacksons Star colony is mighty impressive.
And now I can understand the dimensions of thr  Corbelon Craft - its a really cool design.
The computer looks great too. Very Kubrick!

    Yup.

As for actors, they can usually only talk about what they experienced on set. If there were lots of practical sets and effects, that's what they report - they often don't realise how much is planned to be replaced later.

I think some of the anger is learned from past experiences. There is often a genuine attempt by film studios to down play the role VFX has in a movie, to the extent that blue screens are edited out of behind the scenes footage in an effort to make people think everything was shot practically. In some cases actors (sorry I can't quote a specific example at the moment) have had it requested of them that they not talk about CGI whilst in promo of a movie. Top Gun Maverick is a good example recently, where everyone on the press tour said things like "Those planes aren't CGI, we literally flew planes and filmed them" well, they did, but then those practical planes were then totally replaced by CG. I think if my industry was being attacked in this way I'd be a little irritated about it too.
We have seen some degree of this with regards to Romulus. Fede has mentioned many times that there is CGI in the movie, but there's good public word of mouth to be gained from telling an audience things are practical when they're not fully practical at all.

I find the passive aggressive response from vfx people so bizarre. Fede of all people is not your enemy and certainly has nothing against the industry (In fact maybe I'm wrong but I'm almost positive he's highlighted the vfx work in past interviews?) I get that vfx artists are almost universally mistreated and that's f**ked, but the anger seems incredibly misplaced.

I'm sure alot of guys had a crush on sigourney weaver but I never  found her to be that attractive (by no means do I think she is ugly though). But the girl in this is very cute a d probably the prettiest of any of Alien films ( Winona Ryder was hot bzck in thd dsy though).

I asked why he said that four times and he said "Because of the echo"

How do I edit my post? Lol

The feeling that Rain will sacrifice himself and Isabela Merced's character will survive

Hardly. With all respect to the actors (I don't even talk about them but about their characters) but

    Spoiler
if the movie will have success they will make a sequel. And... Yes, Cailee has these MC vibes and charisma and looks like she could lead the potential sequel, become a "new" Ripley. Isabela's Kay is also looks great but feels like Lambert-Vasques character: pretty cool or natural(victim) but passive and will have great or horrible death.

I'm more thinking about David's android (Andy) fate.

I don't like the sacrificial trope: I'm just a robot, so don't cry.

Also I heard there is will be another Ash. I guess Ash will corrupt Andy's mind or even replace it.

    Vasquez wasn't passive at all.

Fede is and has treated this project with such care. It's rare to see honestly. The practical effects are so well done and it helps the actors as well submerge themselves into this world, which really helps them get into character.

Quote from: PortugueseXeno on Jul 21, 2024, 02:46:04 PMYeah, Cailee really looks like she is on her way to become a movie star (if she isn't already one now), so i can't wait to see her next projects (Knives Out 3 and Beef Season 2).

It's also kind of funny that i'm practically her age and i kind of have a Cinema crush on her lmao, so i wonder if that is how Sigourney Weaver went through back in the day, after the release of the first Alien movie.

By the way, I am also the same age. but a little older

I think if it pays off, they'll calmly make a sequel with the survivors as the hero (if there is one. hahaha)

    Spoiler
Cailee Spaeny really has something, like charisma, from the moment she was filmed, maybe not in the best movie, but still. "The craft 2"

Yeah I mean it's great that they do whatever they can to keep things as "real" as possible, but CGI is a necessity anyways. Do anyone really expect that a Sci-Fi space monster movie with a pretty decent budget will have very little to no CGI ?
