New L’Ecran Fantastique Cover Shows More of the Alien: Romulus Xenomorph!

As the release of Alien: Romulus draws ever closer, we’re getting more and more production and promotional images for the film. Gracing the cover of French fantastic & sci-fi cinema magazine L’Ecran Fantastique is a new look at the Xenomorph featured in Alien: Romulus.

It’s our best look at the body of the Alien yet, as most shots we’ve seen in the trailers and other stills have been close ups. Check out the cover below!

It definitely looks like the design is finally back to leaning into the biomechanical look, and the posture featured here reminds us a bit of ‘Stompy’, the Xenomorph in Alien: Isolation.

We’ve also recently had some new looks of the Xenomorph on the covers of Fangoria and Cinema Teaser so check those out if you haven’t already!

Does the chest stick out so far due to healing that way after getting burst open from a harpoon?  ::)  I do think some of the design elements bear a striking resemblance to Amilcar Fong's XM Studio's "Alien Warrior Hive" sculpture.

Just a friendly reminder that the "perfect organism" wouldn't be limited to plantigrady. Phylogenetically speaking, why would it be? A perfect organism/survivor should be able to occupy and thus adapt to a wide range of ecological niches.

More on foot postures here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6377445/

Anyway, I LOVE the ACTUAL biomechanical elements going on here (FINALLY), the plugs around the knee especially. This is the closest to Giger's detailing since Big Chap. Mike is correct, this is like a beautiful merging of Japanese biomechanics and Giger. This is a beautiful and intimidating design (not "cartoonish" at all, Resurrection/AVP hold those honours).
Can't wait to see it in motion.

But also, every new Xenomorph has its own little physical characteristics. I can say this new one is more "muscular" and "beefier". More like a Japanese biomech design.
What? Also, I always wonder what people over in Japan interpret their own alien stories.

While I don't mind digitigrade on the Aliens - Stompy looks great, I would love to eventually see a proper CGI plantigrade Alien in motion/running. Just to see if it moving at such a fast pace is as goofy as I'm thinking it would look. Isn't that why Creative Assembly made Stompy digitigrade in the first place? He looked like he couldn't get out of his own way or something?

I personally liked the isolation leg design so am very glad to see a return to Digitigrade form. Overall would it not allow for a faster creature when running? It seems like a useful adaptation for a predator like the Alien.

Interesting that Alien has moved so far away from biomechanical until now. Other production teams felt the need to add texture where it wasn't needed (Superman suits the past 20ish years) and removed texture that made something unique (Alien).

And boo and those damned legs.
